Hi my fellow Architecture+Design lovers,

How are you Hivers? I really believe that you are doing very well with starting new week. Last week many Sri Lankan celebrated Sinhala & Tamil new year with their loving families. Since the last few days were official holidays for me due to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, I took the opportunity to visit the Eastern District of Sri Lanka with my friends. The eastern province of Sri Lanka was largely destroyed and reduced to ruins due to the thirty-year-long terrorist war. However, over the past decade, the Sri Lankan government has taken steps to restore these ruins and bring them to a unique location, which has once again increased the value of these cities. Although there are mosques with unique architectural features located all over Sri Lanka, I never had the opportunity to enter one. However, I consider it a great blessing in life that I had the opportunity to go inside a mosque for the first time and see its sights during my visit to the Katthankudi area near Batticaloa city. This mosque name is Al-Aqsa Grand Jumma Masjid. In this content I'm going to explain about architectural features of Al-Aqsa Grand Jumma Masjid mosque.

This was my first visit to the city of Kattankudy. I saw a large crowd gathered inside Al-Aqsa Grand Jumma Masjid mosque. Since it was holiday season, I could see a large group of Muslim devotees gathered inside for prayers. When I looked outside, the architectural featuresof Al-Aqsa Grand Jumma Masjid mosque could be seen in a unique way. From the outside, the arched doors leading to the entrance of Al-Aqsa Grand Jumma Masjid mosque have a unique shape. The colors used for these as well as the color used for the windows visible from the outside are designed to be bright. The mosque is built in abundance with gold and blue colors that emit a glow. This can be described as a truly unique architectural feature.

After that, I walked inside the mosque with my friends, intending to see the most magnificent architectural features that I had never seen before. I was careful not to disturb the religious rituals of the devotees. In fact, the interior of the mosque looked like an old royal palace because of the fascinating architectural shapes. The concrete pillars built to support the upper floors had strange shapes made of gold, but I had no idea what they meant.

The interior of the Al-Aqsa Grand Jumma Masjid Mosque is notable for its architectural features and layout. The floor is entirely paved with terrazzo, and it is kept clean as only shoes are allowed to be taken off before entering. Usually, when entering a holy place of worship, shoes are taken off to preserve its dignity. The beautiful concrete pillars were connected to each other by arched doorways. A cluster of lights was installed hanging down from the upper wall of the first floor, illuminating the entire interior of the mosque. Arabic inscriptions were seen here and there, and I did not have a proper understanding of their meaning.

The interior of the Al-Aqsa Grand Jumma Masjid Mosque is not air-conditioned, so ceiling fans and table fans are installed here and there. The entrance doors are made of wood and painted brown. The door frames are not particularly shaped. The concrete pillars are decorated with gold carvings, topped with small arches of gold, green and blue glass.

The lotus flower motifs found in Buddhist temples are a striking feature inside the Al-Aqsa Grand Jumma Masjid Mosque. The stairs leading to the upper floors were made of wood. There were also many window frames covered with glass that reflected different colors.

Al-Aqsa Grand Jumma Masjid Mosque, which beautifully displays the architecture of Muslim cultural elements, should be mentioned. It is a blessing to be able to explore the architectural features of such a place of worship. As a Buddhist citizen, it was a beautiful experience for me to be able to share religious coexistence. Although I have been associated with this community for so long and presented architectural information of my places of worship, it is a pleasure to present a different experience today.

This beautiful, mysterious and extraordinary mosque in the dominant city of Sri Lanka is very beautiful to look at and its dome design is extraordinary. The beautiful designs inside the Al-Aqsa Grand Jumma Mosque are truly a visible monument, including the architectural design. Here people pray to the great creator by traveling or coming in different ways according to their convenient time. The designs of the pillars inside are really beautiful and golden in color. Thank you for sharing. Above all, I wish the great creator success in your journey.
