Climbing a small hill on a Saturday morning - My Actifit Report Card: September 13 2025
Hi my loving Actifiters,
Greetings dear friends! Starting a beautiful weekend, I wanted to spend Saturday morning refreshingly, so I decided to climb a small mountain. Since my daughter said that she would also join me for this trip, I agreed. Especially, the more results of bringing children together for such trips, the more they can be gifted. This mountain was located in an area called Yatagala, about 3 kilometers from my house.
In the morning, after doing my daily chores, I had breakfast and went to the relevant place with my daughter on a scooter. This is actually not a difficult trip because stairs had been built for climbing the mountain. The large rocks were one after the other, surprising us. Although climbing mountains as a physical exercise requires a lot of energy from us, it strengthens the muscles and improves flexibility. It is not an easy task to climb a mountain without getting lost after going through difficult jungles and finally finding the paths. There, one must be sure to be protected from wild animals. But our journey was not that difficult.
Centuries ago, the Yatagala area belonged to the Rumassala Reserve, so the ruins still exist here and it is a region of historical importance. Over time, as roads and settlements were built, this region became a separate exhibition. However, my daughter started moving up more diligently and faster than me. I kept advising her to be careful about safety. Today, I am very happy to be able to walk seven thousand steps in this community.
The Yatagala region is full of Buddhist cultural heritage because of the constructions made by various kings in the past. Even today, the only Dhamma school that provides Dhamma education in English is also located in this region. That is why my daughter was also entrusted to Hetthachala Pirivena for Dhamma education a year ago. As we walked up, we could see many small caves among the rocks. There was a certain mystery in them.
My daughter had many questions and she asked them one after another. The main problem was who brought such large stones from the bottom to the top. We could also observe several Buddha statues. The villagers believe that there must have been a pond here in the past. Suddenly, a medium-sized cobra walked near us, but I did not take a picture so as not to disturb its journey. If I followed it and took a picture, it might have bitten me for its self-defense. Anyway, we set aside about two hours for this and ended the journey and bought two ice creams at the bottom to relieve our fatigue.
