Walking among peaceful rural areas - My Actifit Report Card: May 28 2025

Hi my loving Actifiers,

What's up Hivers? I hope you're doing very well right now. Despite being a busy Wednesday, I took a day off from work today to pursue a personal goal. Accordingly, I had the opportunity to visit the Weerawila and Tissamaharama areas in the beautiful Southern Province of Sri Lanka. We, who lead busy lives, always need mental freedom. That is why we set aside time to travel and walk in areas that are blessed with natural beauty to achieve this mental freedom. I prefer to travel to Weerawila because it is an area rich in wildlife.

In fact, the best time to walk is in the morning. Walking in the morning gives you the opportunity to enjoy the natural sounds of animals living in their natural environment and the peace of mind of the environment. Since there was no traffic on the Weerawila road in the morning, I had the opportunity to enjoy this dry weather area in a very beautiful way. It must be said that I have used the opportunity to blend with nature to add unique experiences to my life

As I passed Weerawila and headed towards Tissamaharama, I saw several paddy fields flooded with rain. Paddy cultivation definitely requires rain water, but there is also a risk of paddy fields being destroyed due to excessive rain. It was evident that most of the people in this area are inclined towards paddy cultivation. The contribution made by the farmers to the rice industry due to this paddy cultivation should be specially mentioned. It is certain that such a huge contribution is made by the farmers of these villages.

The four elements of ancient Sri Lanka, namely, the tank, the dagoba, the village, and the temple, were highly displayed. In particular, it was a custom for the villagers to first offer the rice harvest after paddy cultivation to the temple. It is said that temples were built in the vicinity of farmlands at that time. Among them, the Yatala Chaitya, which remains in ruins, was located near the town of Tissamaharama.

Walking further, I came across the Tissamaharama Lake. Although a few years ago, there was a designated area for tourists to bathe near the Tissamaharama Lake, nowadays, bathing is strictly prohibited in the vicinity of this lake due to the abundance of crocodiles. Boat safaris are conducted in the vicinity of the Tissa Lake, which has given tourists the opportunity to enjoy the environment in the Tissa Lake.

There is evidence that the water stored in this Tissamaharama tank is used to transport water to agricultural lands in several areas. In addition, this Tissa tank has also been useful for the villagers for the freshwater industry. As we walked around this area, the cool breeze blew through our bodies, so we did not feel the intense heat of the sun.

The coolness felt while touring and staying in the area around the Tissamaharama Lake, which is of high value in terms of biodiversity, is a feeling that cannot be described in words. This walk truly brought about a great deal of mental peace. On this beautiful day, this tour of Tissamaharama and Weerawila also provided an opportunity to burn off the unnecessary calories stored in my body. Such walks are considered valuable because they burn unnecessary calories and provide great energy to the mind.
