Traveling through the province of Savoie in France, I discovered an amazing postcard place - the village of Chanaz. For me, this place turned out to be one of those places where I wanted to stay, forget about everything and live quietly and even alone.

And it happened like that. Our trip to Lake Bourget brought us and others of our trip group to a state of peace and dreaminess. All the group was quiet, everyone was immersed in their emotions.

Around the green slopes of the Alps, vineyards and, suddenly, from around the bend, a view opens up as if we were transported in a time machine to the 17th-18th century.

It simply took our breath away: on the bank of a small canal there is a village of Chanaz. This image reminded me of French fairy tales. This is exactly how the French province where Charles Perrault's characters lived looked in fairy tale illustrations.

Chanaz has deservedly earned the nickname "Little Venice in Savoy". Here, among narrow canals, ancient stone bridges and cozy cafés with terraces by the water, time seems to stand still, giving a feeling of harmony and peace.

Chanaz is located on the banks of the Savière Canal, which gives this place a special charm. Its history dates back to the Gallo-Roman era, and it once played an important role in river trade.

Walking along the narrow streets of Chanaz, we could admire the picturesque houses, many of which literally float above the water. Many winding canals are crossed by ancient stone bridges, and they create unforgettable views. Here it is possible to rent an electric boat and explore the village from the water, enjoying a leisurely romantic sailing, but we had no time for this.

Flowers can be seen in almost every window here, and many buildings are almost completely immersed in greenery.

There are places on Earth where you want to walk silently and take pictures, take pictures and take pictures again.

Chanaz, just 10 minutes by road from Hautecombe Abbey, and the nearest village, Lavours, is on the opposite side of the canal, so all these picturesque places can be visited in one day.

As I already said, Chanaz is located along the Savières Canal, which connects Lake Bourget and the Rhone. Huge ships, by canal standards, sail along this canal. They sail from Aix-les-Bains, along Lake Bourget, calling at the Savières Canal, or vice versa from Chanaz along the canal to the lake. The price of the trip depends on the duration and number of stops. I saw a poster with tour prices on the pier: an hour-long excursion - 15 euros, and the longest for the whole day - 29 euros. If anyone is interested, you can combine the excursion with a gastronomic tour, because the Saoia region is the gastronomic center of France.

As for our group, we arrived at our tourist bus. There is no parking for buses in the village. That is, the group gets off, and the bus leaves the village. Private transport is also parked at the entrance to the village: the roads are free, there is no active traffic.

In the village there is a stone mill from the 19th century, where butter and paste are made from walnuts and forest nuts. A small brewery and a chocolate factory are located nearby, but to visit them you need to register in advance on their website, where you can see the entire production process.

We didn't get there, so we walked around the neighborhood and here's what's interesting, everything is here, just like in any other modern settlement.

And these are residential houses. By the way, there are a little more than fifty residents in the village of Shana, and all of them, to one degree or another, are involved in tourism (hotels, food outlets, souvenir shops), and they live quite modestly, although the signs of civilization cannot be hidden here: cars, asphalt, modern windows and plastic furniture. But we didn't want to pay attention to this. After all, they do a lot to preserve history and make tourists happy.

One of the main attractions of Chanaz is the Maison Boigne. It's a historic building that now houses a museum that tells you about the life and culture of this area. Here, as we were told, we can get acquainted with the traditions of the region and feel the true spirit of Savoy. But again, it was not our goal.

In addition to viewing the two productions, walking and photographing, you can dine here. There are many cafés and restaurants, there were enough free places in the middle of the day, and the prices did not differ from Aix-les-Bains. Local cuisine is another reason to visit Chanaz village. In the village, you can try traditional Savoyard dishes.

Chanaz stayed in our memory for its calm atmosphere, its rich history and the opportunity to enjoy leisurely walks along the nice canals. It is easy here to forget about the hustle and bustle and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of leisurely French life...

You can walk around the village of Chanaz in an hour, and another hour and a half for lunch. We spent about two and a half hours in this pleasant place in all respects and then went on through an amazing region, which, in my opinion, represents real France.
