Rundale Park - A Beautiful Blooming Baroque Park

There is always a place where it is warm in any weather. Sometimes it is home, sometimes a loved one, and sometimes just a forest, park or beach. We go there when we are tired to recharge our batteries. And when we are already full of warmth, we share it with others. Because warmth, unlike chocolate, only increases when shared... And the approaching autumn frosts become less terrible.

A charming French-style park, covering ten hectares, lies near the Rundale palace. We bought the combination ticket, which includes access to both the Palace and the park. Since, as I mentioned, the palace is located near the Latvian-Lithuanian border, it is visited by quite a few Lithuanian tourists, and the shop assistant learned simple Lithuanian words and phrases to facilitate communication.

The park's elements are very symmetrical, and all the paths are smooth. The most beautiful, vibrant part of the manor is the French Park in the Versailles style. It is very good, and a huge thanks to the specialists for restoring it according to Rastrelli's plans. A lot had to be cut down and replaced. It's probably impossible to restore everything; they say peaches, apricots, and grapes grow here.

In the 18th century, the garden was created alongside the palace's construction, and in the 1970s, it was carefully restored, preserving Rastrelli's original layout. The masters recreated all the features of the Baroque style: the ornamental portico, the labyrinth, the fountain, and others.

Now, the park can easily boasts having its gorgeous rose garden. There is also interesting amphitheater and a labyrinth. There's a small fountain, numerous benches, and gazebos for relaxing. Everything is very well-maintained: the bushes are trimmed, the paths are leveled, and the alleys are neatly tidy. Here, I first encountered what's called a green room, a small area surrounded by greenery on all sides, with some kind of themed project taking place within. For example, a playground, a beautiful flowerbed, sculptures, and so on. For the convenience of tourists, ice cream and water are sold there.

The French Garden occupies only one-seventh of the Palace and Park complex, but it's designed in such a way that it seems vast. There are many alleys, fountains, a picturesque pergola, numerous flower beds and pavilions. An ornamental parterre begins immediately in front of the palace; ornate paths of bushes and flowers intertwine with ribbons of brick and white marble.

From almost everywhere in the park there is a stunning view of the palace!

And from the palace, in turn, there is an equally delightful view of the garden.

A small moat filled with water surrounds the park, and a picturesque stone wall stands near the palace.

Unfortunately, I have never had the chance to walk through a real labyrinth garden, but I also find these pseudo-labyrinths incredibly beautiful!

The park also has no less beautiful twin gazebos, between which there is a small stage.

Despite the beauty and, so to speak, small number of palaces in Latvia, there aren't many visitors. Most are solo tourists, like us, arriving by car. Apparently, the distance from big cities and the capital, by local standards, is taking its toll. The weather was comfortable, and the garden was still in bloom. Probably, there are more guests on weekends.

Further beyond the garden is a park where the nobility hunted.

I've never seen such a magnificent rose garden in our climate! Hundreds of roses are planted on several hectares, all in bloom, with a sign next to each one listing the variety! There are also many other wonderful flowerbeds, including trellises with grape clusters (sorry, I couldn't resist picking a berry – it was edible!). You can take photos everywhere for a symbolic two euros. Parking is free. The garden is worth a full day visit, and it's best to do so in good weather so you can fully enjoy the museum, rose garden, and the entire park.

Rundale Palace is literally on every list of Latvian attractions that everyone must visit. And I won't argue with that. Rundale palace is truly unique in Latvia, as there is no other such grandiose building in the entire country.

Its only drawback is its location. Pilsrundale is truly the Latvian hinterland, and just a few years ago, you could only get there by car or by public transport with a very inconvenient transfer in Bauska. But fortunately, now a daily direct bus service to the Latvian capital has been established in the summer.

Our family really enjoyed this trip to Rundale. Even our children were fascinated and didn't want to leave. If we come there next time, we will spend the whole day exploring the park, because there are still green spaces that we didn't have a chance to explore. This was due to lack of time.

We can always meet people who have a bad time: the weather is too rainy, the sun is too bright, the coffee is too hot, the neighbor is too noisy. But you know what? Happiness is not the weather, not the coffee, and not the neighbor. Happiness is when you stop grumbling and start enjoying what you have. Because whoever looks for the bad finds it. Therefore, let's enjoy every moment of life, to experience something new, to see something new, to learn something new...

Viskas labai gerai prižiūrėta: krūmai apkarpyti, takai išlyginti, alėjos tvarkingos. Čia pirmą kartą susidūriau su vadinamąja žaliuoju kambariu – nedidele zona, iš visų pusių apsupta žalumos, kurioje vyksta tam tikros temos projektai. Pavyzdžiui, žaidimų aikštelė, gražus gėlynas, skulptūros ir pan. Turistų patogumui čia parduodami ledai ir vanduo.

Prancūzų sodas užima tik septintąją rūmų ir parko komplekso dalį, bet jis suprojektuotas taip, kad atrodo didžiulis. Yra daug alėjų, fontanų, vaizdinga pergola, daugybė gėlių lysvių ir paviljonų. Ornamentinis parteris prasideda tiesiai priešais rūmus; puošnūs krūmų ir gėlių takai persipina su plytų ir balto marmuro juostomis.

Parką supa nedidelis vandens pilnas griovys, o šalia rūmų stovi vaizdinga akmeninė siena.

Deja, niekada neturėjau progos pasivaikščioti tikru labirinto sodu, bet šie pseudolabirintai man taip pat atrodo nepaprastai gražūs!

Parke taip pat yra ne mažiau gražios dvynės pavėsinės, tarp kurių yra nedidelė scena.

Nepaisant grožio ir, taip sakant, nedidelio rūmų skaičiaus Latvijoje, lankytojų nėra daug. Dauguma jų yra vieni keliaujantys turistai, kaip ir mes, atvykstantys automobiliu. Matyt, atstumas nuo didžiųjų miestų ir sostinės, pagal vietos standartus, daro savo įtaką. Oras buvo malonus, o sodas vis dar žydėjo. Tikriausiai savaitgaliais lankytojų yra daugiau.

Niekada nemačiau tokio nuostabaus rožių sodo mūsų klimato sąlygomis! Kelis hektarus užima šimtai rožių, visos žydinčios, o šalia kiekvienos yra lentelė su veislės pavadinimu! Yra ir daug kitų nuostabių gėlynų, įskaitant vynuogių kekių pergoles (atsiprašau, negalėjau atsispirti pagundai nuskinti uogą – ji buvo valgoma!). Už simbolinius du eurus galima fotografuoti visur. Parkavimas nemokamas. Sodas vertas visos dienos apsilankymo, o geriausia tai daryti geru oru, kad galėtumėte visapusiškai mėgautis muziejumi, rožių sodu ir visu parku.

Rūdaļės pilis yra tiesiog kiekviename Latvijos lankytinų vietų sąraše, kurias privalo aplankyti kiekvienas. Ir aš su tuo nesiginčysiu. Rūdaļės pilis yra tikrai unikali Latvijoje, nes visoje šalyje nėra kito tokio didingo pastato.

Vienintelis jo trūkumas – vieta. Pilsrundale yra tikrai Latvijos provincija, ir dar prieš kelerius metus ten buvo galima nuvykti tik automobiliu arba viešuoju transportu, o persėsti Bauskoje buvo labai nepatogu. Laimei, dabar vasarą į Latvijos sostinę kasdien kursuoja tiesioginis autobusas.

Mūsų šeimai labai patiko ši kelionė į Rundale. Net mūsų vaikai buvo sužavėti ir nenorėjo išvykti. Jei kitą kartą ten atvyksime, praleisime visą dieną tyrinėdami parką, nes dar yra žaliųjų plotų, kurių neturėjome progos apžiūrėti. Tai buvo dėl laiko trūkumo.

Visada galime sutikti žmonių, kuriems viskas nepatinka: oras per lietingas, saulė per ryški, kava per karšta, kaimynas per triukšmingas. Bet žinote ką? Laimė nėra oras, nėra kava ir nėra kaimynas. Laimė yra tada, kai nustojate skųstis ir pradedate džiaugtis tuo, ką turite. Nes kas ieško blogo, tas jį ir randa. Todėl džiaukimės kiekviena gyvenimo akimirka, patirkime kažką naujo, pamatykime kažką naujo, išmokime kažką naujo...
