Hakui Sweetest Latte

My sister and I were looking for a place to breathe from the suffocating air of the house. It had been two days since our dad passed away. We wanted to reminisce about our childhood and tell stories. Growing up separated, we had so much to catch up on. Unlike most sisters, while we look almost alike, we grew up differently and away from each other. It’s safe to say that I am a lot closer to my friends than my own blood related family. Not knowing where to go, I remembered the other day Ray told me about a new upcoming place in town.

The coffee shop name is quite catchy, Hakui. I didn’t know what it means but apparently it’s a chain that’s available in a few cities around east-java. The building looks really posh from the outside. It’s a mix of minimalist, modern, as well as industrialist all-in-one. Just as you see above, the seating option is pretty interesting too. In fact, it’s one of the biggest modern buildings in the city by now. Other cafes in this small town are relatively small when compared to Hakui.

From the front, it looks like the picture on the thumbnail. There are a few seating options such as indoor and outdoor too but since we were rushing that day and it was packed, we only sat on the 2nd floor. This is how it looks like on the second floor.

This is how it looks like on the first floor where you can see the register as well as some chairs that are co-working friendly. it's not intended for long work hours but minimal 1-2 hours can be quite comfortable.The view from the glass is also pretty romantic,showing the riverside as well as busy street where people move around. Since by now I've been to the place a few times, it's my favorite spot where I can gaze outside and get some inspiration.

While everyone dressed up, my sister and I looked like a typical “ housemaid” for a billionaire. We were using ugly slippers and dresses. I was bringing the laptop with me to check on a few things and she was on her phone. But that’s the joke, we look like housemaids who get time off and go to a cafe to gossip about work. On the first floor, they are also selling some merch which is something I often see over cafes these days. My sister also wanted to take pictures to commemorate her outfit, it’s not everyday she’s dressed like that.

It was our first time in hakui and I was impressed by their pastry selections. They even have chocolate palmier & chococlair. While we are not ordering those, it was nice to know even in a small place like this, they have such options. By now, I have been to the place quite a few times already. It’s definitely a nice place that I frequent because not only is the price quite affordable, they are also pretty comfortable.

We ordered some latte that now I forgot the name of. They’re definitely sweet and having it with my sister makes it even sweeter. It’s unfortunate that they come in plastics rather than glass. But it was also a busy day so I can understand that it can be a lot more efficient to just use plastics than serving the coffee on a glass.

As you can also see, they are also kids friendly. They have a few chairs for children readily available. So, not only it’s hip but also family friendly. I wonder how long this place would last since usually they are only hip in the first few months but suffer quite a bit after that. But I hope this place stays open even after I get back home after a year or two.
