BONIFACIO Part 1 (D/ENG/ESP) - In the south of Corsica

Vor kurzem habe ich mit meiner Freundin einen Monat lang die französische Mittelmeerinsel Korsika wortwörtlich umrundet. Wir haben an kleinen Stränden mit türkisblauem Wasser gebadet und uns in glasklaren Süsswasserflüssen erfrischt, sind auf Berge geklettert und haben kleine Dörfer und Städte erforscht. Dabei hat uns unser Weg auch ins südlichste Städtchen Bonifacio geführt. Dieses wurde auf weissen Kalksteinklippen erbaut und ragt hoch ins Mittelmeer hinaus. Auch erblickt man in nicht all zu weiter Ferne die italienische Insel Sardinien. In Bonifacio wurden die ältesten Gebeine von Menschen auf Korsika entdeckt und die Kalksteinfelsen haben schon vielen Eroberungen durch französische, italienische und deutsche Truppen stand gehalten. So hat der Legende nach König Aragon eine Treppe in die Kalksteinklippen mit 187 Stufen schlagen lassen, um das strategisch wichtige Städtchen zu erobern. Und dies in nur einer Nacht. Schlendert man einmal durch die schmalen Gassen, darf ein Ausflug mit einem Touristenboot den Kalksteinklippen entlang nicht fehlen. Neben der imposanten Aussicht auf Bonifacio können auch viele Grotten und versteckte Strände mit leuchtend blauem Wasser und bunten Fischen entdeckt werden. Trotz hoher Temperaturen hat sich der Ausflug wirklich gelohnt.

I recently spent a month driving around the French Mediterranean island of Corsica with my girlfriend. We bathed on small beaches with turquoise water and refreshed ourselves in crystal-clear freshwater rivers, climbed mountains and explored small villages and towns. Our route also took us to the southernmost town of Bonifacio. This was built on white limestone cliffs and juts high into the Mediterranean. You can also see the Italian island of Sardinia in the not-too-distant distance. The oldest human bones in Corsica were discovered in Bonifacio and the limestone cliffs have withstood many conquests by French, Italian and German troops. Legend has it that King Aragon had a staircase with 187 steps cut into the limestone cliffs to conquer the strategically important town. And this was done in just one night. Once you have strolled through the narrow streets, you can't miss a trip on a tourist boat along the limestone cliffs. In addition to the impressive view of Bonifacio, many grottos and hidden beaches with bright blue water and colourful fish can be discovered. Despite the high temperatures, the trip was really worth it.

Hace poco pasé un mes recorriendo literalmente la isla mediterránea francesa de Córcega con mi novia. Nos bañamos en pequeñas playas de agua azul turquesa y nos refrescamos en ríos de agua dulce y cristalina, escalamos montañas y exploramos pequeños pueblos y ciudades. Nuestra ruta también nos llevó a la ciudad más meridional de Bonifacio. Se construyó sobre acantilados de piedra caliza blanca y se adentra en el Mediterráneo. También se puede ver la isla italiana de Cerdeña en una distancia no muy lejana. Los huesos humanos más antiguos de Córcega se descubrieron en Bonifacio y los acantilados de piedra caliza han resistido muchas conquistas de las tropas francesas, italianas y alemanas. Cuenta la leyenda que el rey Aragón hizo tallar una escalera de 187 peldaños en los acantilados de piedra caliza para conquistar la ciudad, de gran importancia estratégica. Y esto se hizo en una sola noche. Una vez que haya paseado por las estrechas calles, no puede perderse un viaje en un barco turístico por los acantilados de piedra caliza. Además de la impresionante vista de Bonifacio, se pueden descubrir muchas grutas y playas escondidas con aguas azules brillantes y peces de colores. A pesar de las altas temperaturas, el viaje realmente valió la pena.
