Pues ya varias veces les he contado que este trimestre que pasó, tuve que pintar demasiadas cosas, y yo no soy una persona que antes tenía el hobby de pintar, y mucho menos sé dibujar. Y si hace poco terminamos el trimestre, nos tocó hacer una última entrega justo cuando ya no teníamos clases, tuvimos que ir un día a llevar una pintura porque en la materia en donde hacíamos estas cosas, teníamos como una unidad sobre óleo, ya habíamos visto acuarelas y acrílicos, incluso tizas, pero no nos había dado tiempo de ver cómo se trabaja el óleo. Así que a nuestro profesor se le ocurrió la brillante idea de mandarnos a hacer una pintura de un autorretrato en óleo.

Well, I've already told you several times that this past quarter, I had to paint too many things, and I'm not someone who used to have painting as a hobby, let alone know how to draw. And since we just finished the quarter, we had to do one last assignment right when we didn't have classes anymore. We had to go in one day to turn in a painting because in the class where we did these things, we had a unit on oil painting. We had already seen watercolors and acrylics, even chalk, but we hadn't had time to see how oil painting works. So our teacher came up with the brilliant idea of having us paint a self-portrait in oil.

Pintar de por sí es un poquito complicado, solo imagínense hacer un autorretrato y peor aún en una técnica como el óleo que es bastante complicado. No digo que sea mala, me parece que los acabados increíbles y que el rango de grabados y mezclas que se pueden hacer con el óleo, es como una ventaja muy grande sobre el acrílico, incluso. Pero sí debe decir que es algo bastante complicado. Primero se me costó un poco encontrar como una foto mía para hacer un autorretrato, pero escogí uno y se las adjunto también para que vean que obviamente no queda igual, pero esta era la intención. Lo que estuve haciendo fue una retícula para poder hacer el Boceto, y como pude el boceto a lápiz, y luego comencé a pintar, pude haber hecho algunas cosas con lápices prisma color, pero la verdad es que no lo pensé muy bien y simplemente comencé a pintar y si bien esto no es el proceso total y completo de la pintura, pueden ver que empecé con un tono un poco amarillo, pero que al final se ve bastante bien. Obviamente, las dimensiones del dibujo están muy malas, de hecho, como la tenía en el boceto, estaba mucho mejor que cómo quedó al final, eso debido a que tuve que hacer el rostro dos veces y ya no me quedó como la primera vez.

Painting is a bit complicated in itself, so just imagine doing a self-portrait, and even worse, in a technique like oil painting, which is quite complicated. I'm not saying it's bad; I think the finishes are incredible, and the range of engravings and mixtures that can be done with oil is a huge advantage over acrylic, even. But I must say that it is quite complicated. At first, I had a hard time finding a photo of myself to use for a self-portrait, but I chose one and I'm attaching it so you can see that obviously it doesn't look the same, but that was the intention. What I did was make a grid to be able to do the sketch, and as best I could, I did the sketch in pencil, and then I started painting. I could have done some things with colored pencils, but the truth is that I didn't think it through very well and just started painting. And while this isn't the entire painting process, you can see that I started with a slightly yellow tone, but in the end it looks pretty good. Obviously, the dimensions of the drawing are very bad. In fact, as I had it in the sketch, it was much better than how it turned out in the end, because I had to do the face twice and it didn't turn out like the first time.

Pero lo que al profesor le gustó de esta pintura fue que tenía las profundidades, que son muy bien logradas, y la verdad es que todo eso lo hice, gracias a mi conocimiento de maquillaje. Saben que yo me he maquillado durante muchísimos años y he hecho contornos en la piel, simplemente lo llevé a la pintura. Es por eso que puedo hacer los contornos de la cara y del cuello, bastante bien, el cabello, la verdad no quedó para nada bien, aunque mi cabello actualmente tampoco es que está muy lindo, pero pudo haber quedado muchísimo mejor y el fondo azul, ahorita me arrepiento un poco de ello, porque yo soy más de colores rosados y eso. Pero bueno, esto fue simplemente una entrega, obviamente no iba a quedar perfecto y creo que me va a quedar pintando paisajes, creo que es lo mejor que se me da por diversión. Y si queríamos como este proceso, ya que si mostró cosas que hago muy bien, a veces también comparto cosas que hago bastante mal como esto. Obviamente, no es algo que me detiene, no es algo que me quita el sueño, y si es algo como corriente, espero que les haya encantado de hacer mis opiniones al respecto, nos leemos pronto!

But what the teacher liked about this painting was that it had depth, which is very well done, and the truth is that I did all that thanks to my knowledge of makeup. You know that I've been doing my makeup for many years and I've done contouring on the skin, I just transferred that to painting. That's why I can do the contours of the face and neck quite well. The hair didn't turn out very well, although my hair isn't very nice at the moment either, but it could have been much better, and the blue background, I regret that a little now, because I'm more into pink colors and stuff. But anyway, this was just a submission, obviously it wasn't going to be perfect, and I think I'm going to stick to painting landscapes, I think that's what I'm best at for fun.
