A Walk Along New Umuahia - Omoba Roads!

There’s something about walking a road you usually pass through in a vehicle. The same street you see every day from a car window feels different on foot. It’s like you’re seeing it for the first time because you see things which ordinarily you would have missed while in a moving vehicle.

This road is the New Umuahia - Omoba Road down to Waterside.

I’ve passed by this road countless times, to work, church and back, always watching it blur past the window, and had hoped for a day I’d to walk it.

This Monday gave me the chance. I had a wake to attend at the church, St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Omoba Road. Before leaving the house, I planned that I'd walk.

I left home early. About 20-30 minutes should do it, depending on my pace. Enough time to look, and of course capture the sights and sounds of the road.

So I dropped at Obikabia junction and started. There, I captured my first shot around 16:12PM UTC.

Few steps further, I captured this shot - a church gate and this fuel station that's been here for decades. A few years ago, there was a fire outbreak here caused by a tanker that was dispensing fuel. Thankfully, no life was lost, only cars and properties. It was a huge loss.

Just opposite the fuel station, I caught this shot. A mechanic workshop. Apparently, they only do power bike repairs here.

I couldn't pass this shop without capturing it. Look at the trendy jeans there.

Another fuel station. Almost at every stone throw, you'd find a fuel station.

And here you have "No Limit lounge."What a name! Lol. I wonder what inspired the owner to choose the name.

A cool ride. 😅

Then this place that kinda looks like a joint or drinking spot. I'm not sure. This particular building was in a sorry state before, deteriorated and abandoned. I was actually surprised seeing it's been renovated and will be operating any time soon. Kudos to the owners.

How the road looks this evening. Not so busy.

Finally, we seep a school - Girls' Technical College. There's also Boys' Technical College, but it's somewhere in the town.

Away the school, I head towards the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Estate. From here, it's hill down, so it will be a slow walk.

First we see the SDA Mortuary.

Then, the popular SDA hospital premises. They also have an eye clinic. There's even constructing a diagnostic center.

And then this baby zoomed by, right into my camera lens. 😂 Such a cool ride.

And the church, SDA, Aba Headquarters.

The beautiful landscaped area by the church wall.

Another school - Adventist Technical High School (ATHIS).

Whistling pine tree. Did you see the nests up there? This tree is almost going extinct here. You can only find them in some of the old churches or school premises.

The popular 7UP junction in sight.

7UP road, leading to the 7UP Bottling Company, producers of the popular 7UP soft drink, including Pepsi, Miranda and Aquafina bottled water.

A car wash stand.

A mobile phone accessories vendor. Mobile vendor of mobile phone accessories.

Look at this cute piece. It was made from a plastic twine.

St Andrews Anglican Church.

Now at Omoba Road. Zoom zoom, no traffic.

A little further, a turn to the left and off the main road heading to the church.

And here's St Ambrose Catholic Church, sitting pretty on a hill.

Glad I made it. At least, it wasn't that long a walk. Just about 1.9km covered within 26 minutes. Not bad at all. 😂

I hope you enjoyed the walk with me.

You really was on a road trip/tour of this particular area in Aba. I only cross through all those in a vehicle, maybe traveling or going somewhere else, never walked on tooth there. Thank you for sharing.

I didn't want to miss the chance Monday gave me to walk the road. At least, it was part of exercise too. 😂
Hopefully, you'll walk it one day.

Yes... oooooh, they just told me to be doing more exercises. I will really start some evening walks more than I have been doing.

Beautiful shots, see how clean the road actually looks. You would think the road would be so busy since everyone was returning from work

Thank you.
Yeah, but most people didn't go out because it was the usual sit at home day. 😂
