Adopt, don't buy

I began with the sketch, letting my imagination flow freely. I envisioned a comforting atmosphere, full of tenderness and soft gestures. The lines were kept loose and organic at first, as I mapped out where each character would sit and how they would interact. I wanted the girl’s posture to feel natural—caring and grounded—so I paid extra attention to how she held the puppy.

Comencé con el boceto, dejando que la imaginación fluyera libremente. Imaginé una atmósfera reconfortante, llena de ternura y gestos suaves. Al principio mantuve las líneas sueltas y orgánicas, mientras ubicaba a cada personaje y cómo interactuarían entre sí. Quise que la postura de la chica se sintiera natural, con un gesto de cuidado y conexión, así que puse especial atención en cómo sostenía al cachorro.

Once the sketch was solid, I moved on to the lineart. This stage required precision and patience, especially with the details of the girl’s hair, the folds in her clothes, and the adorable features of the animals. I refined the lines to give clarity and structure, while still preserving the soft aesthetic I had in mind.

Una vez que el boceto estuvo definido, pasé al delineado. Esta etapa requirió precisión y paciencia, especialmente en los detalles del cabello de la chica, los pliegues de su ropa y las adorables expresiones de los animales. Refiné las líneas para aportar claridad y estructura, pero sin perder la estética suave que quería conservar.

Coloring brought everything to life. I chose warm tones for the animals to make them look cuddly and inviting, and gave the girl earthy colors to ground the whole palette. The light blush on her cheeks, the pinkish undertones, and the soft fur of the pets were all carefully selected to reflect a peaceful and loving environment.

El color fue lo que le dio vida a todo. Elegí tonos cálidos para los animales para hacerlos ver tiernos y acogedores, y le di a la chica colores terrosos que unificaran toda la paleta. El leve rubor en sus mejillas, los matices rosados y el pelaje suave de las mascotas fueron seleccionados cuidadosamente para reflejar un ambiente pacífico y lleno de cariño.

For the shadows, I used a gentle touch. I didn’t want the piece to feel dramatic or too intense; rather, the shadows helped define the characters’ forms and added a sense of space. I placed them thoughtfully to suggest a calm indoor setting, with soft light filtering from one side.

Para las sombras, utilicé un enfoque suave. No quería que la pieza se sintiera dramática o demasiado intensa; en cambio, las sombras ayudaron a definir las formas de los personajes y aportaron una sensación de profundidad. Las coloqué con cuidado para sugerir un entorno interior tranquilo, con una luz tenue entrando desde un costado.

Highlights came next, and they were crucial to adding warmth and emotion. I placed small touches of light on the puppy’s fur, the girl’s eyes, and the cat’s curious gaze. These subtle sparkles made the characters feel more alive and connected, emphasizing the tender moment they share.

Después vinieron los brillos, que fueron clave para añadir calidez y emoción. Coloqué pequeños destellos de luz en el pelaje del cachorro, en los ojos de la chica y en la mirada curiosa del gato. Estos destellos sutiles hicieron que los personajes se sintieran más vivos y conectados, destacando el momento tierno que comparten.

Lastly, the background tied everything together. I didn’t want it to overpower the characters, so I kept it simple—a cozy room with wooden floors and a shelter-like atmosphere. Boxes, a pet-themed poster, and the warm lighting helped set the scene without taking focus away from the figures.

Finalmente, el fondo fue lo que unificó toda la ilustración. No quería que distrajera del enfoque principal, así que opté por algo sencillo: una habitación acogedora con suelos de madera y una atmósfera de refugio. Cajas, un cartel con temática de mascotas y una iluminación cálida ayudaron a establecer el escenario sin restarle protagonismo a los personajes.

Creating this artwork was incredibly fulfilling. Knowing that it will help support animal welfare gave every brushstroke a sense of purpose. I felt inspired and hopeful throughout the process, and I’m truly grateful to @ravenmus1c for inviting me to be a part of this noble cause. I hope that through this illustration, more people will feel encouraged to adopt and spread love to animals in need.

Crear esta obra fue una experiencia profundamente gratificante. Saber que ayudará a apoyar el bienestar animal le dio un propósito especial a cada trazo. Me sentí inspirada y esperanzada durante todo el proceso, y estoy muy agradecida con @ravenmus1c por invitarme a ser parte de esta noble causa. Espero que, a través de esta ilustración, más personas se sientan motivadas a adoptar y a brindar amor a los animales que lo necesitan.
