¡Hola amigos de Hive! Es un placer estar nuevamente con ustedes. En el día de hoy les traigo un artículo relacionado con uno de los sitios más concurridos de la hermosa Habana Vieja, casco histórico de la ciudad y rica en historia de nuestra tierra. En este caso me refiero al famoso Paseo del Prado, huella intangible del pasado colonial cubano.

Hello friends of Hive! It is a pleasure to be with you again. Today I bring you an article related to one of the busiest places in beautiful Old Havana, the historic center of the city and rich in history of our land. In this case, I am referring to the famous Paseo del Prado, an intangible trace of the Cuban colonial past.

Luego de recoger mi novio y yo, a nuestra amiga de Matanzas, justamente en el Parque de la fraternidad de la Habana, decidimos dar un paseo por la zona. Sin mucho más que hacer, nos adentramos en el, esperando quizás encontrar algo nuevo. Y vaya que nos sorprendimos.

After picking up my boyfriend and I, our friend from Matanzas, right in the Fraternity Park in Havana, we decided to take a walk around the area. Without much else to do, we delve into it, hoping perhaps to find something new. And boy were we surprised.

Imaginen por un momento, un lugar donde aún los artistas pueden pintar al aire libre y de paso, tengan como modelo a los transeúntes. En una época como está, y más en las ciudades cosmopolitas, es casi imposible hayar algo como eso. Pues en mi Habana, sí que lo es.

Imagine for a moment, a place where artists can still paint in the open air and, incidentally, have passers-by as a model. In a time like this, and more so in cosmopolitan cities, it is almost impossible to find something like that. Well, in my Havana, yes it is.

Casi poniendo un pie en el célebre paseo, puedes apreciar las hileras de obras expuestas a cada lado. En donde turistas y vecinos del lugar, aprecian las obras de cada artista. Que, no se limitan solo a pintores, también a ceramistas y escultores.

Almost setting foot on the famous promenade, you can appreciate the rows of works on display on each side. Where tourists and residents of the place appreciate the works of each artist. That, they are not limited only to painters, also to ceramicists and sculptors.

Inequívocamente, cada obra posee un fuerte carácter criollo. Donde se ve arraigada la figura de la cultura africana, mezclada con el matiz caribeño. Formando ese tan conocido ajiaco cubano, que nosotros los que vivimos en la isla poseemos.

También, hay su anacronismo. Que pudimos ver en la obra del escultor Tomás Camejo, que se enfocó en la cultura del rock. Este autor nos explicaba, que se dedicó a confeccionar guitarras e implementos muy conocidos, de bandas como Metallica, Iron Maiden, los Rolling Stones, The Beatles entre otros. Con el mensaje, de la invasión británica. Aquella que ocurriera durante los años 60, y que el autor extrapola como la segunda venida de los ingleses a la Habana.

Más adelante, nos topamos con otro tipo de obras, un panel de intelectuales que posicionaron una exposición pública. Especialmente para los turistas. Pasado ese extraño momento, nos topamos con un creador de máscaras. El cuál, no era oriundo de Cuba. Sino un italo-jamaicano, llamado Sebastián Peugi. El cual se encontraba viviendo a unas cuadras del lugar. Según el, sus máscaras buscan representar parte de la cultura pop mundial.

After that strange moment, we stumbled upon a skin maker. Which, he was not a native of Cuba. But an Italian-Jamaican, named Sebastián Peugi. Who was living a few blocks from the place. According to him, his masks seek to represent part of world pop culture.

Lamentablemente, un poco embelesados ya por las explicaciones y el buen arte, nos percatamos de que el atardecer ya se asomaba. Por lo que pusimos marcha rumbo a una nueva aventura, que tuvo un genial inicio, gracias a este magnífico rincón habanero, el tan entrañable paseo del Prado.

Unfortunately, a little enraptured by the explanations and the good art, we realized that the sunset was already looming. So we set out on a new adventure, which had a great start, thanks to this magnificent corner of Havana, the so endearing Paseo del Prado.
