Rozmyte wody Adriatyku na plaży Borak

Kilka słów o lokalizacji i warunkach:

Plaża Borak leży w południowo-wschodniej części półwyspu Peljesać. Jej znalezienie nie jest jednak łatwe. Prowadzi tu wąska i bardzo kręta droga, która opada nisko ku niemal samemu morzu z dość sporej wysokości. Jest stroma i z tego co pamiętam, przy nieco dłuższym samochodzie typu mini van ciężko mi było przejechać część zakrętów "na raz".

Obok plaży znajduje się kilka zabudowań w tym jakieś obiekty turystyczne. Sami znaleźliśmy to miejsce dzięki pewnej influencerce z Instagrama, którą śledzi moja żona, a która bardzo często przybywa w tym miejscu. Na tyle często, że spotkaliśmy ją tego dnia.

Na plaży było spokojnie i nikogo tam nie spotkaliśmy. Pogoda tego dnia nie dopisywała. Była na tyle zdradliwa, że 20 min przed dotarciem do plaży widzieliśmy w oddali trąbę wodną. Żeby było ciekawiej dodam, że ta trąba zawędrowała od wyspy Korculi po miejscowość Kuciste i swój żywot zakończyła 200-300 metrów od naszego noclegu. Wiatr był dość silny a morze było wzburzone.

O fotografowaniu:

Fotografowałem zarówno aparatem jak i smartphonem. Był to jeden z niewielu przypadków, kiedy zdjęcia z tego drugiego urządzenia uważam za lepsze. Wykorzystując tryb długiej ekspozycji w iPhonie mogłem sobie pozwolić na rozmycie mocno falującego morza.

Lokalizacja bardzo sprzyjała tego typu zdjęciom. Sporo skał zalega w tym miejscu tuż przy brzegu, a fale w dość spektakularny sposób rozbijały się o nie tego dnia. Nie do końca dobrze wyglądało to jednak na zdjęciach z aparatu. Zdecydowanie lepszy efekt według mnie przyniosło rozmycie tej wody.

Rozmycie wprowadza do zdjęć wody lekkość, wygładza zbyt dużą i ciężką w odbiorze ilość szczegółów wzburzonego morza. Pozwala też zachować w jednym kadrze więcej niż jedną chwilę i pokazać nieco dłuższą historię, niż krótsza ekspozycja.

The Blurred Waters of the Adriatic at Borak Beach

A few words about the location and conditions:

Borak Beach is situated in the southeastern part of the Pelješac Peninsula. However, finding it isn't easy. A narrow, very winding road leads there, descending steeply from a considerable height almost all the way down to the sea. It is a steep route, and - if I recall correctly - navigating some of the bends in one go was difficult with our rather long minivan.

There are a few buildings near the beach, including some tourist facilities. We discovered the spot thanks to an Instagram influencer my wife follows who visits the area frequently - so frequently, in fact, that we actually ran into her that day.

It was quiet at the beach, and we didn't encounter a soul. The weather wasn't great that day; it was so unpredictable that, twenty minutes before reaching the beach, we spotted a waterspout in the distance. To make things even more interesting, that waterspout traveled from the island of Korčula to the village of Kućište, finally dissipating just 200–300 meters from where we were staying. The wind was quite strong, and the sea was rough.

About the photography:

I took photos using both a camera and a smartphone. This was one of the rare instances where I felt the shots from the smartphone turned out better. By using the long-exposure mode on my iPhone, I was able to blur the motion of the turbulent sea.

The location was perfect for this type of photography. There are plenty of rocks right along the shoreline, and the waves were crashing against them in a spectacular fashion that day. However, it didn't look quite right in the photos taken with my Nikon. In my opinion, blurring the water with iPhone yielded much better results.

Blurring adds a sense of lightness to water shots and smooths out the overwhelming, heavy detail of a turbulent sea. It also allows you to capture more than a single moment in one frame, telling a slightly longer story than a shorter exposure would.
