Tickled Pink!
So, I may walk around with rose-tinted glasses, but I'm not into pink frills and laces, and did not expect to find too many In the Pink things around my house. I for sure did not believe I'd find anything pink in the kitchen, plenty of flowers in the garden, yes, but not much else!
The search began indoors; I found The Carnation - "Die Lichtnelke"- a collector's plate from Villeroy and Boch's "Blumenmärchen der Felder und Wiesen" - Flower Fairies of the Fields and Meadows. It belonged to Mom Lily, a treasured gift from her youngest brother. This delicate fairy is dressed in a pink carnation and watches over the comings and goings in my living room.
The poem at the back is in German; here is the AI-generated translation into English. Please tell me if it's correct, or not! Sounds beautiful, but you never know!
He whistles in moist regions
On slender reeds from the marsh,
There in tattered little skirts
A beggar-boy sings his song.
Tattered, yet transformed with brightness,
He desires neither gold nor shine:
He plays himself for joy,
For the elves’ nightly dance.
They nod and whisper softly
And blink at him knowingly:
"Hidden in ragged clothing,
You are a little prince.
The search moved to the bedroom, where I'm bound to find something in Pink, like these gifts from two special ladies.
Mom Lily gave me this tiny book of poems about the special bond shaŕed by a mother and a daughter: "Love and Wishes for my Daughter."
My dear friend Pat often arrives with a little gift and a big smile, a heartfelt message with pink and cream roses engraved on glass.
Back to the little book from Mom - a very apt poem from the Pink pages, as Mom spent the last twenty-two years living right here, first with Dad in the cottage we built especially for them, and then the latter years with us, as Dad left this earth way too soon!
My Mom was more like a sister, had a wicked sense of humour, so we shared loads of laughter. Mom Lily was way ahead of her time, a jeans and sneakers gal for nine decades, not a pink frilly gal for sure!
I love thinking of the two of us living so close.
And I love knowing we're given a chance like that...
to spend the days together.
Ours is a truly beautiful relationship,
and I hope you'll always remember that I treasure it... so much.
Marta Best
... We did a lot of that, and I will always treasure it!
Along came Ingrid, who stayed in our bnb studio unit for three months, and became like a daughter. This little pink butterfly was one of the goodies she popped in a gift bag when her stay came to an end on Valentine's Day of 2019. Funny how the little things often mean the most!
Pink in the garden and it's not a flower! The leaves of this Kalanchoe Thyrsiflora - a Flapjack or Paddle Plant- got way too big during a long, wet summer, and the plant is not looking happy, but the edges are still tinged with pink. The other two looked healthier, maybe because they're a pair; the single plant must be feeling lonely.
Decorative and colourful wall hanging pot plants are doing their job, brightening up a dreary brick wall; one pastel pink and the other a brighter pink.
Pink in the kitchen? Of course, I forgot, there's Himalayan Pink Salt, the healthier option. It contains trace minerals, helps correct electrolyte balance, and has a host of other health benefits. Enough of that, just know that it's good stuff!
Now that I tickled you pink, why not take a walk around and see if you can snap enough pink items for @stresskiller's Pink photo essay contest. There's still enough time, and these are the rules:

Such sweet sentiments in pink.
So many memories Lizelle! Packing up really gives us an opportunity to revisit so many of these things and recall what they mean to us. You're right, it's the little things that end up meaning the most. I got into the habit of picking up business cards from some of my favorite shops/restaurants that we've visited during our travels and I use them as bookmarks. Each time I see one I'm reminded of our trips.
That's a really lovely way to bring back memories, Eric! I've still got a lot of stuff to sift through, sure to find little treasures along the way. It's a kind of refresher, great knowing the special things are moving with me.
I hope you and your wife are both keeping well and enjoying your new home!
It's fun revisiting those memories from time-to-time. Thank you Lizelle! We're making a little more progress every day with the house. There's definitely never a dull moment. : ) I hope you enjoy the rest of your week!
Curators love u, that inspire.
Great pictures.
