Three Challenges - Guilty Pleasures

avatar

I can't wait to tuck into @livinguktaiwan's current Three Challenges - it's all about sharing our three favourite foods.

Most of mine are guilty pleasures.

Shopping for food and household items at one of our largest food retailers is super easy through their Checkers60 App.
I get a virtual tour through their 'aisles' from the comfort of my livingroom, and it's delivered within the promised 60 minutes.

The bonus is that I am not tempted to buy any of my guilty pleasures!

I however am fussy with some foods, have to go to the store and choose them myself, so it was off to our local mall today.

My first stop was for medication, but they have all kinds of temptations in the aisle where one queues up to pay.

I hear you ask:

Medication...
and you end up with...

Diddle Daddle by JumpinJack - Caramel Coated Popcorn!

It's not my fault though, Diddle Daddle always magically pops right into my shopping basket!

Perfectly popped popcorn with a crunchy caramel coating is pure bliss, and my hand can't stop popping into that bag!

I'll let you into a secret, I always buy a small packet to nibble on in the car on the way back home. Then, innocently take out the upopened larger packet/s and pop them into the cupboard;)

I always had to hide my sweet treats from Arthur, who was diabetic, but when he had a sugar low, he could indulge!

Next stop was the Woolworths Food Store. For my South African friends, I do not buy all my food there, as I have to reign in my purse strings, but some things are worth paying a little extra for.

They also make the best...

Butter Toffees - Soft and Sticky

They've cost me a filling or two; many dentists must rub their hands in glee when they see those on the shelves!
Is it worth the risk of possibly losing a filling?

Yep, it is!

And...it seems the Woolies Woolworths brand are healthy, as they are...

Made with Care
Contain no Azo Dye
Tartrazine Free

Who am I kidding;)

Butter, Mint or Liquorice are all equally good, pure indulgence!

The bakery section has healthier options like Bran or Savoury Muffins, but this Lizzie woman here, finds something else calling her...

Cream Doughnuts!

I still have to try LUT's favourite Krispy Kreme Donuts, but I've only seen them at some of our bigger malls. My sister-in-law was ravng over them; must be good, as she's not a sweet tooth like me!
Mom Lily was very health-conscious, and always chose a Bran Muffin so did not approve of my choice, a cream doughnut. She used to give me the look, like only she knew how to!

Arthur used to get a savoury treat.

I always felt guilty about this indulgence, and tried not eating it in front of him, more so not in front of Mom! I'd be choking seeing that look on her face!
I used to make a cup of tea for everyone, and disappear to my little office space with that doughnut smiling at me.

I always buy an extra one for whoever is on duty, Cynthia or Bonginkosi.

I have to share at least one of my favourite foods. I know it's cheating, as this will be the fourth favourite, although toffees do not count as food, do they!

Whenever we eat out, and there's a creamy Chicken and Prawn Curry on the menu, I try my utmost to choose something different.
Nine times out of ten I end up choosing my absolute favourite. Plump Prawns in a creamy spicy sauce, served with Basmati rice, Poppadums, and garlicky Naan bread, is pure indulgence!

I have many more favourites, but no more cheating, so I'll stop tempting you!

Thank you dear LUT for this challenge, and giving me an excuse to buy some of my favourite 'foods':

  • Caramel Popcorn - popcorn is healthy, right? Never mind the sugar content!
  • 'Made with care' Butter Toffees - not actually a food. So please ignore them.
  • Cream Doughnuts...ummm nothing healthy about that!
AND it gives me great pleasure to have served real food with you:
  • Creamy Chicken & Prawn Curry

I hope you enjoyed a taste of my guilty pleasures!

Ah @lizelle - you know how to make a girl's mouth water - and it seems we have the same taste. I love creamy toffees and fudge and the caramel coated popcorn - well sometimes. Do-nuts are not my favourite but of course I eat them - due to my sweet tooth and in Cyprus they sold small donuts with a pink coating - and those I really loved. The prawns sound wonderful and make me crave some curry now. A lovely blog my friend and as usual your photographs are excellent

Thanks Christine! I've had to curb my sweet tooth with reflux and IBS issues, but a girl can cheat and take remedies, not so!

Yummy - what else can I say? Still hope I get a chance to visit you in your B&B - and hopefully this year I can do it vicariously through Eden when she goes to visit you. Can't wait for that to happen.

I hope to get exact dates soon from Eden as August is filling up quickly. I've provisionally blocked her expected dates, just the 1st 2 nights are full already. I did not expect so many bookings in August!

Diddle Daddle is something I would not be able to put down. Better to keep that to yourself. So glad I saw this post after I ate breakfast.

I used to indulge way more, I'm actually a good girl now😅
Yes it's a South African brand, absolutely the best. I used to make it for my kids, it's very close to the real thing.
I'm down the coast with my friends, just popped in to see what's happening here.
Have a great weekend xxx
