Show Night!

Crowds were streaming out of the SunBet Arena at the Time Square Casino in Waterkloof Glen, Pretoria, after the matinee of Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance, the spectacular Irish dancing extravaganza. We booked our tickets months ago, for the evening show, and as I told you in The Great Getaway Gift from a Hive Friend - Eggsta, we were super excited to see the show. Most of us in the group had seen Michael Flatley himself many moons ago when the show came to South Africa just before the turn of the century (sounds like ancient times, right!) I think it was one of his other shows, Feet of Flames.
In the words of Flatley...

I had a dream and I made it happen with sheer hard work and determination. I never knew the effect it would have on the transformation and indeed recognition of Irish dance around the globe, or the lives it would touch.

We arrived early as we wanted to have something to eat before the show, and knew the restaurants would be packed.
The excitement was palpable as we entered the building.
My friend and I went ahead in search of a table and found one outdoors at Forti Grill & Bar, an award-winning Italian restaurant. The ambience was great, with an excellent and varied menu. The manager brought us a tray of Popcorn Shots, which two of us did not trust at first, thinking it would make us tipsy and we'd put everyone to shame during the show;)

We'd already started demolishing our steaks, so I only took a photo of a delicious burger with bacon, crispy onions, and other trimmings, as well as very good potato fries.

The arena was almost full when we started taking our seats. We had a nice view of the stage. I never choose seats on a level area, as you end up having to duck left and then right as the people in front of you move their heads;)

The theatre was almost at capacity.

I bought a souvenir programme to keep as a memento; always nice looking back and learning more about the cast and the production team afterward.
Lord of the Dance is a classic tale of good versus evil, by the way. I think it was an apt theme after my drama the week before; good indeed won over evil in my reality.

The show was super exciting, the precision of the dancers amazing, and after three standing ovations, the lights dimmed one last time!

What a treat to see them, last saw them in 1996 at the Playhouse in Durban if I am not mistaken, dance that had everyone's toes tapping.

Sure you enjoy this as much, international live shows seldom come down to Durban of late, enjoy!
