Daily Walk to a Healthier Me!

The taxman is off my back...for now...Just one provisional and one final return for the B&B, and then I am done and dusted with that! I'm still getting the occasional call from guests, some wanting to know how I'm doing, and a handful of occasional bookers totally oblivious to hubby's death and my departure from life as a B&B hostess.

I'm starting to do my afternoon walks regularly, even though it's been extremely hot. I sometimes wear my swimming gear under a dress, stop for a swim, and carry on. I'm walking a little further, and am starting to feel the benefits, like no more shortness of breath after a short distance. If I miss a walk, I start missing those endorphins!

There are many waterbirds here, naturally, given the numerous water courses! These two Spur-winged Geese have found a tranquil home here; unfortunately, their habitat keeps getting smaller as we humans build more and more!

Thankfully, management in this estate is environmentally sensitive, with indigenous plants and man-made waterways throughout, making it a haven for many species of birds and other small wildlife.
There are four kilometers of man-made and landscaped water courses consisting of streams, ponds, and waterfalls, which meander through the 35-hectare estate, some acting as attenuation ponds.

Many Red-capped Manakins hop between the reeds at a never-ending pace.

The Common Moorhen is seen everywhere, as long as it's near water!

Of course, I stop along the way during my walks to catch my breath and take photos. Homeowners take pride in their gardens and decor. This place has a surprise around every corner.

I don't think anyone has done a study to see how many Weaverbirds and nests live here; it's an almost impossible task! You can see the number of nests in the tree at the back. Trying to get a photo of the bird while it's building its nest is very difficult.

There are rock formations in some parts, adding to the charm, but also providing shelter for smaller animals like Dassies (Rock Hyrax), which, unfortunately, have become a problem. They destroy gardens and even eat car wires!

I was walking with friends when we saw this plant, and we wondered whether the fruit was edible. No, it is not, it is in fact called the Suicide Tree or Pong-Pong - Cerbera odollam! Its fruit's seeds yield cerberin, a potent poison.

The African Dogrose (Xylotheca) has masses of perfumed, ivory flowers, almost like a rose. It turns into bright yellow woody fruits that split into a pretty star shape.

After a walk through these beautiful surroundings, my mood lifts, I am sleeping better, and although my body feels a little stiff some days, I know I am walking towards a healthier life!

What a huge load off your mind! We handed everything over to our accountants yesterday so we'll be done soon—praise the Lord. It sure is beautiful there and nice to see such vibrant green at a time when our world is so grey here.

I should have done the same, but I thought it would be as simple as it's always been! A friend who's a tax practitioner checked it for me after I spent hours on it😖 She fixed the problem within 10 minutes! I did not need to fill in one section, so simple.
It's terribly hot here suddenly, the usual February. I'm sure you've had enough of the cold weather!

With that kind of scenery you would be inspired to do your walking routine everyday.♥️. In my place we seldom see a bird's nest. They hide it from humans 😁.

You're so right Asia. I'm so thankful that I can walk these pathways now and am not breathless anymore.
Hehehe the birds are clever to hide their nests😉
