Mr. Poe Diaries - Not a Care in the World
What a life; eat, play, sleep, hunt, bully Mom Lizzie for treats, sleep, and eat some more!
This is the life of Poe, my adopted 'grandchild'! Well, he calls himself King Poe, but I only call him Mr. Poe!
He has many favourite spots in and around the house, and found a nice cosy seat under the dining room table while I'm busy sorting old photos and memories.
King Mr. Poe thinks he's king of the castle, sits on his throne where he can bathe in the sun, and watch his world go by - the people who come and go, and the birds. Only the brave ones come into the garden nowadays and start screeching when they spot him prowling around.
For those who don't know, I am a bird lover, but became a cat's granny when my son emigrated! I was not amused; 'that darned cat' I used to think, especially when he left dead birds in the passage. I had to stop feeding my garden birds as their feeding station was bird heaven for Poe.
He, however, is a highly intelligent cat, and although I know cats' hunting instinct can never be taken away, I honestly believe all my scolding worked. He now terrorises the geckoes and rarely brings in birds!
Poe likes to stay close by my side when he's not sleeping or hunting outside; he's often tailing behind me.
When a friend stayed over recently, he became very agitated when nightfall arrived. I thought he wanted food, but we eventually realized Poe was jealous. He loves sleeping on my bed while I tap away at my computer; that's the usual pattern when we're alone. He wasn't a happy boy at all; he stood in that passage till he eventually realized he was getting nowhere, was meowing and sulking, and then disappeared into the night!
A stressful evening for him, while my friend and I caught up with all the stuff we got up to in school days! There was much laughter, or rather cackling, adding to Poe's distress! He's not a lap-cat, but jumped on my lap at one stage, and would not budge!
When it was bedtime, he very soon was out for the count.
Did I ever think I'd end up with so many cat photos on my phone - absolutely not, never, ever! As someone said the last time I spoke of Poe, he is photogenic after all.
Poe has become my little companion, his presence comforted me when I was so sick. I now love Mr. Poe to bits <3
