Midwinter Skies

Midwinter - that's where we're right now, yet it's the best time of the year in our subtropical city, with beautiful sunny days and clear skies. We have summer rains, so it's the best time of the year for those who enjoy outdoor activities. My thick blankets have still not come out, and it looks like they're going to stay right where they are, snugly packed away at the very top of the cupboards.

Weathermen can explain why sunrises and sunsets are so gorgeous in wintertime. For me, it's like nature wants to remind us that warmer days will be back. Especially for those living in colder climes!

I often step outside with my cup of coffee to watch the stunning warm hues before the sun comes up.

Golden clouds as seen early morning from my home; almost an explosion of light!

I'll miss this view of our green valley, and the warm colours of the Crotons, the purple Bougainvillea, and the Palm tree towering up towards the sky. I planted it when it was still a baby!

Now that the sale of my home is in full swing with the buyer's finance approved, my search for a new home will resume in earnest. I will be moving to higher ground, which, of course, means lower temperatures. It gets freezing cold up that way in wintertime, especially at night and early morning, five to eight degrees colder than where I currently live. I, however, hope to be visiting my son in the Netherlands during the winter months, but of course, will make sure my new home is well equipped to keep me warm and cosy.
I often catch sight of the full moon rising above a neighbour's garage, then it disappears.

Late at night, when it's full moon, on the other side of the house, I see the bright moon shining through my bedroom window, like a golden ball hiding behind the giant Pigeonwood tree.

I'll be looking at the same sky when I move up that way, but it will never be the same again, not that I'm lamenting, just saying I will miss the familiar trees and landmarks, but soon will enjoy new sights and form new memories.

The bonus is that I will be close to my youngest brother and his wife, and can just hop into my car and pop in for a chat when things get too quiet, as it often is. My brother works away from home, four weeks on, four weeks off, and my sister-in-law has been nagging me to buy closer to them. We often chat late into the night when she's alone. Ever since my fall, I realize that it would be the best move, and it's a nice part of the world!

By the way, those of you who noticed my blogs have been rather short, must have wondered what's up, but that fall on my butt is stopping me from sitting on my computer chair for a lengthy periods, so I sometimes sit on the recliner and blog from my cell phone as my laptop is playing up!

Late afternoon skies, just before sunset, taken from my brother's home.
I don't see as many trees as I do in our valley, but it's still the same sky that we all look at, no matter where we are in the world, right?

Yes, it will be the same sky, and it will never be the same again, but a new season will be starting.

The sky is always the same, the surroundings can change, but it is our eyes and hearts that look up and search for beauty and peace, @lizelle! Oh, I haven't heard this song for a long time, thank you, I enjoyed it 😇🎶

So true, we live in an amazing world, and need to treasure each moment of this thing called life, no matter where we are!
Glad you enjoyed the old song, I love the lyrics.
Thank you @mipiano❤️
PS How would a version on the piano keys be?

Hello, @lizelle! It's been a while. I don't often write blogs, but I felt I was at the wheel of sharing a bit of my journey. Since my son passed away, I've been in a state of confusion and thrown myself into work as a way to cope with the immense pain that comes with remembering our everyday life together. I miss him so much. For 24 years, I cared for him as he battled his illness, and those memories are both precious and bittersweet.

Moving right along, we’re about to set off on a new chapter as we move back to our hometown. Just like you, I find it an uphill battle to leave a place where I’ve lived for nearly four decades, so many delightful times that are woven into the fabric of this home. But I think as we age, there's a powerful force to reconnect with loved ones we've been apart from for a long time. We all express a long desire for that close attachment, don't we?

I cannot even begin to imagine the pain of losing a child @diosarich. It must have been especially difficult having to see him suffer.
We all deal with grief in our own way, being kept busy is one of the coping mechanisms, not so? The missing never goes away.
Thank you for your input!

It is true, @lizelle. As a mother, the heaviness of heart of losing a child is beyond the realm of reason. It’s a pain that lingers, the struggles, the challenges, echoing and building castles in the air, and my innermost being was shattered. All I have left are the immeasurable worth of memories we shared, cuddled lovingly forever in my heart.

Nature is quite simply amazing. That painting she gives of the sjy is just priceless!

I hope you bum is getting better! I am on the recliner but with a laptop, there is no way I could contemplate putting a blog post together lol

Haha, it's getting better because I'm hardly sitting on my computer chair, I've also resorted to the recliner 🤭
The skies are too gorgeous late afternoons!
Hope you're having a good Saturday Ed.
