Memoir Monday - Simple Pleasures, Special Times
Memories long forgotten come flooding back with @ericvancewalton's #memoirmonday prompts.
After mulling over the prompt for a couple of days, I often have a vague idea of what I'm going to talk about, but feel that there's not enough to write about.
I should know by now that I need to stop overthinking, and simply sit down and start writing tapping the keyboards, as that is when the door opens to some long-lost memories.
My forever memory bank here on Hive is filling up, with the added bonus of being able to share it with family and friends who played a part in making those memories.
This week’s Memoir Monday prompt:
What simple pleasures of life do you truly enjoy?
Many fall into the trap of thinking they need to spend loads of money to find pleasure in life, but of course soon realize those are just fleeting moments of pleasure.
What simple pleasures do I truly enjoy?
The Ocean
I love walking barefoot in the sand on the beach, digging my toes into the sand, feeling the vibration of the ocean tide beneath the wet sand. Walking in the water where gentle waves lap onto the sand, and having to scramble when an unexpected bigger wave comes rolling towards me.
Exploring rockpools, searching for seashells and beach pebbles, sitting on the rocks, gazing out at the sea while listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks, and feeling the ocean spray on my face.
I'm currently enjoying a midweek break in our favourite resort on the East Coast, and the early morning ritual is having an earlier than usual cup of coffee on the patio to watch the spectacular sunrise over the ocean.
Once the sun is up, I turn my back to the sun to feel the warmth on my back on a winter's day; what a treat!
Full-Roast Coffee
Waking up to the aroma of freshly ground coffee and having that first sip is pure bliss! Yes, I am an early morning coffee-addict, cannot function if I miss it, which happens rarely. The day simply ain't the same without my cup of dark-roast coffee!
During winter months I get back under the blankets with my coffee, and a rusk, and if I feel like an extra spoil, I'll add foam on top.
During summer months, I'll have it at the dining room table, paging through a magazine, or scrolling through my Hive feed on my phone.
Hubby used to spoil me with coffee in bed.
I miss that, but miss him more!
Special People
I love spending time with my favourite people, and it can be anywhere; enjoying the sun, sitting around a fire somewhere away from it all, talking and laughing; yes especially the laughter. Others would think we're crazy if they were to listen in, and not understand what the belly laughs were about.
I have been blessed by crossing
paths with wonderful folk who have enriched my life.
A real treat is meeting up with old school or work buddies, and catching up on what's been happening in everyone's lives.
Impromptu Road Trips
Spur-of-the-moment road trips turn into exciting memorable fun-filled days; turning off the highway and exploring our beautiful countryside. We often look at each other afterwards, shake our heads in wonder about discovering hidden gems and amazing nature right on our doorstep.
Music fills my Soul
I love music, many genres, always have music playing in the background while working or blogging at my desk.
What would life be without music, very dull indeed!
Cooking and Baking
I lost all interest in playing in my favourite playground, the kitchen, ever since Arthur left this earthly world, but am slowly getting back and loving it.
The simple but delicious brunch we enjoyed today.
I could go on and on; the smell of freshly cut grass, my little herb garden which is right outside my kitchen window, being able to step out the door and pick my favoute herbs for cooking.
These, and more, are the most special things in my life.

Thank you my friend 🧡
Sure, it's your fault anyway... 😁
The sea is something that provokes in everyone incredible emotions and an inner peace that is sometimes necessary. Surrounding ourselves with friends, cooking, listening to music, enjoying nature and having a good coffee, friend @ is what we call the little things that make us happy and that we need so much and that give us life. Thank you.❤️
So very true @mamani, the sound of the sea is the best lullaby ever but also makes one feel alive🧡
Absolutely love your post dear, especially the part about the ocean. The sound of the waves is so calming. Makes me want to book a beach trip right now hahaha
It's a huge privilege living on the coast and have the beach so close to home.
Yes, it's the most soothing melody ever😉
This is really wholesome to read and yeah, the things considered little is what gives the greatest pleasure. Spending time with loved ones no less. Glad you're doing well, dear.🪷
Thank you @jhymi, appreciate your kind words.
Simple gestures or places in life always bring us the greatest pleasure.
Enjoy your time away, coffee looks good as does the food.
!LUV
For sure Joan, these are lasting pleasures that I never tire of!
...and, a rusk is a must with that first cup of coffee.
The sea was so churned up with massive waves after the weekend winds that there's no fish biting.
We saw some dark patches and sea gulls dive bombing towards Leisure Bay.
Hopefully some fish tomorrow, but we're still having a wonderfully relaxed time. The only music is the waves👌
Coffee is a must, not many memories of when we were allowed that first cuppa, it too was quite young.
Memories tied to the sea, fishing as children on rivers, at the sea when on holidays when young, one brother carried on fishing and still does rivers/dams. Still pulling nets out locally with Sardine Run which means good game fish follow.
Ocean has been rough, I can hear it at night which is always soothing. Enjoy your time away.
No luck with the fishing, but we still had a great time, played Rummikub every night😅 And listened to that sea. I've never seen the waves so angry down that way, We even saw a 'rainbow' in the spray from the breaking waves.
There were guys selling shad on the highway but I would never buy from them as you don't know where they've stored those fish, and it's dangerous to stop there as well. Nothing was happening our way. We only saw the seagulls going crazy on our first day, but no fish biting there at all.
You are so lucky to live so close to the sea, it is such a soothing sound!
I would also add reading posts you 100% agree with that feel like something you might've written <3 I so love everything you said here, my dear. Enjoy your beach time. You're a wonderful soul.
This was such a wonderful walk through your simple pleasures, Lizelle! This prompt has taught me that many of us have similar ones. As I'm reading through all of yours I'm realizing how many of my own I've missed, like the ocean! It's been since January of 2020 that I've waded into the warm Caribbean ocean in St. Thomas. That's great that you're cooking again, I always liked hearing about the creations you made. Thank you, my friend, for taking part in Memoir Monday this week. It's so great to get to know you all better.
Spending time with special people in wonderful places is priceless and fills the soul. Beautiful shots, beautiful landscapes and delicious food 😊

Great photos of the ocean! I like to go to the ocean and look for shells, but I hate getting into the water! Ha! My kids today were asking about going sometime soon - our closest one is about 2 hours away, so we have to plan it to make it happen! They're usually just as happy playing in our creek or even in the rain!
I love your road trip photos as well. I am following a couple on IG who are driving from London to Cape Town and they're just almost to South Africa and their pictures are amazing. Today they had a video of about 100 zebras that were crossing the road and a family of elephants at a watering hole! So wild!
Thanks for sharing! Enjoy your week!
I've not swam in the ocean for a very long time. Used to love it when I was younger, we'd not want to get out of the water! I used to fall asleep sometimes and still feel like I was floating on the waves.
That couple must be having the adventure of their lives! I can just imagine the photos of the wildlife and the natural beauty.
Have a great weekend @apanamamama

I love the Ocean too and picking those shells, the sound of the waves crashing and the strong breeze from across.
Your memory of breakfast in bed is beautiful.
