Every Photo Tells a Story
After a week-long search online, I went house hunting in the real world. I took some photos through the car windows during our drive, therefore the reflection in the first image.
I could get used to driving past paddocks along an avenue of trees on a quiet road to reach home! This is not an unusual scene in the area I've chosen to move to.
When it's holiday time and I have to choose between mountains or the sea, my heart is always torn. There is a stronger pull towards the sea, so that's where we spent most of our holidays over the years.
However, my close family does not live there, and I want to be near them. I miss out on a load of special times. The B&B ties me down when my staff are away, and I want a smaller home.
I can always go on holiday to the sea. It's also just a forty-minute drive to the coast, and that for sure will not hold me back.
My sister-in-law and I went in search of a particular showhouse, but ended up at the wrong one. There were so many 'On Show' boards up outside the many complexes.
The first one we viewed, ticked all the boxes - secure estate, north-facing, small garden out front and back, large covered outdoor area for entertaining, solar panels and an inverter, plus a rainwater harvest tank that is connected to the house. The latter are big pluses here in SA, with water and electricity outages.
The house was stunning, BUT, it was way too big for me, so it was a sad no-no!
A good photographer can work magic with even a drab home. One home looked very quaint online, had a very nice little garden with views, and had a price drop. However, the photos did not show the poor state of the exterior of the buildings in the complex.
Back to the sale of my house, I had issues with my estate agent's photos. I shared how a friend's brother, who is a real estate photographer, surprised me. His photos told a story - one can see the garden and the sky through the windows, and in some instances how the rooms interlead. It makes a massive difference.
I need not even tell you which are my photos, using my cell phone;)
So our house-hunting excursion on Sunday wasn't a success, but my sister-in-law is scouting and will be going back to the tree-lined avenue for sure! I hope that it's what I'm looking for.
The search goes on!

Oh, I don't envy you! I did think, the other day, that my reno is worse than a move, but on reflection, not. That said, it's not moving quickly enough, either. I need it done sooner rather than later!
Good luck!
Thank you Fiona, I just want to know where and when I'm going! Hope the timing works out so I don't have to put furniture into storage!
Renovations are also very trying, been through that a couple of times, but so nice when it's complete and everything goes back to normality!
Sure it will be the same with the move, except I will miss all the familiar things!
Enjoy the changes🤗
patience is a virtue, it is good that you are not rushing into such a momentous decision, good luck.
Thank you @grindle, patience is the one thing I lack, but I cannot afford to make the wrong move!
Have a good Wednesday 🤗
I know what you mean, when you see it you will know straight away, there will be no dithering. When I got divorced in 04, I went house hunting, the third I saw, I said without going inside "I am having it", it had that vibe, still there still in love with my man cave. I didn't even negotiate the price I paid what was asked. I wanted it that much. You will get that moment
That's the only time I'll buy, it must have the right vibe, inside and outside. I'll wait for that even if I have to put my furniture in storage for a bit although that's the last thing I want to do!
There are so many new 'secure' estates going up, but many look like concrete jungles with small patches of green. Nice inside, but tiny! Apparently some people even battle to get their furniture in!
Enjoy your man cave @grindle and thank you for the encouragement 🤗
You're welcome, I guess gated communities are for safety , but I would feel like I was a prisoner, it is like retirement villages, I could never do that either, if one is around old folk too much it rubs off. It would destroy my everlasting youth.
Hope this weekend brings more joy and success.
Haha, that's exactly how I feel!
I was keen on a very nice retirement village on the coast, but the thought that there's always someone dying in the village is off-putting.
When we went to view the village back in 2019, my late hubby said he definitely would not use a golf cart to get around (you see many of them there)
And neither will I get dressed up in a colourful costume for the village concerts🤭 Fun, yes, but that's like going back to primary school, so no thank you!
Unfortunately with rampant crime in SA, more security estates are popping up, but many are spacious and has open spaces as well. Not that there's any guarantee in respect of security though, but way safer than a stand-alone house!
Have a great Friday @grindle!
Photos always build the first impression which longs last - that is why the advertising industry is just growing up and up. Today you can't do very little without advertisement, and a good advertisement means a lot.
That's so true @sanjeevm, first impressions for sure are lasting, and advertising is so important!
Many years ago a friend gave me good advice and said don't expect your business to be successful if you have not done your marketing properly.
Thank you, appreciate your feedback and support🤗
Mountains or Sea ?! Ha, when i met the sea i didn't even knew how i was missing it my whole life... - Mountains, i guess i had enough living in the alps for 40 years. So my choice would be clear enough hehehehe !
You sure gonna find the "perfect" place... to be next to friends and family and the most important Braai's 😁
The sea, the restless sea, how I love it!
Braais there will be aplenty, my 'baby' brother loves it, and knows how to gather the 'clans', so I'll be kept very busy but can retreat to my new little haven when I need quiet time.
Living in the Alps sounds heavenly, away from the hustle and bustle. Glad you discovered the sea!
Nice seeing you here, my friend 🧡
Hehehe... you think in the times of tourism there is an away from hustle and bustle in the mountains??? There is not... #justSaying
Big Hug dear Lizzie
Aha, of course not! No escaping the tourists🤭
A big hug right back to you dear Dan💜
Your photos are just close up hehehe😁. You will find your new place in the right time😌🥰.
That's the exact problem. It's not showing the whole room, using the wide angle zoom on my phone distorts the picture.
Thank you @asiaymalay, I believe I will find the right home, just need patience.
