Blue Marlin African Curio Shop

(Edited)

Stepping into the sixty-year-old Blue Marlin Hotel in the small Kwazulu Natal South Coast town of Scottburgh, one is greeted by a tiny little curio shop, jam-packed with colourful African artwork.
While the exterior of this old hotel has not changed as far back as I can remember, the interior has been refurbished into a modern and contemporary style.

I hope you enjoyed my #marketfriday shopping as much as I did, a colourful feast for sure!

The lovely @dswigle showed us a feast of a different kind, sharing various cultures, from Scottish Highland Games, a Civil War Re-enactment as well as an ancient Inca pyramid building which must have been fascinating!

LOL, and it's a 2 minute read,😄 but lots to read in the photos not so @silversaver888 😉
There was much more paraphernalia, you'd likely have spent an hour in that shop to take it all in!

Thank you @littlebee4, it is really interesting how the colours symbolizes different characteristics as well as being kind of 'lucky charms.'

Brightly coloured beaded bangles that must have taken hours of patient labour. I found it interesting learning about the significance of the colour of the beads.

Wow! This was really a wonderful display of African art and handicrafts! The bangles are such a nice splash of color! I would love it if I were patient enough to sit and do the intricate beading of them. The significance of color is fascinating.

The painted wood artwork is so varied and many, how could one ever choose just one? My favorite of all is the painted ostrich eggs! I had one that I treasured and about ten years back it was broken in a move.

Le sigh.

That probably means I need to get another! Those are absolutely stunning!

I want to thank you for being a part of the #MarketFriday Challenge. I have personally found there is always so much to learn about people, where they live, and how things are done in different parts of the world. For me, reaching out across the globe and learning about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, has been such a rewarding experience. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the rituals, festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... and what is normal for us? There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. We do differ in many ways, which makes us interesting and unique, but, there are many ways in which are so much alike.

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive or cheap? Did it go up or down? Please do not post 30 pictures with no words about them.Do not use pictures more than once in a post!
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess on some
    4. #MarketFriday must be your first tag.
Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
    5. PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  4. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.
As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

Thank you Denise, yes I'm the same,
can't see myself having that kind of patience!
I was tempted to buy one of the Ostrich egg candle holders, they look so pretty, but I'm running out of space here even though I started decluttering!
Hsve a great Saturday further🤗

Thank you! You do the same. I cannot bring anything into the house unless I give something away to take its place. :)
