A Day Without Coffee is a Day Wasted!
It's a ritual I've followed for many moons.
Get out of bed, or rather, crawl out sleepy-eyed, get my bearings, make a beeline for the kitchen, and turn on the kettle before heading to the loo little girl's room. Sometimes getting there in the nick of time, but the water needs to be on the boil before I do anything else;)
Nothing else compares to a magical cup of aromatic coffee to kickstart my day! Of course, it is even better eaten with a rusk.
What is a rusk? Almost like Biscotti, but a little harder, and needs to be dunked in coffee to soften it, or one can break a veneer, crown, or filling, which for sure will make the dentist smile ;)
Whenever I go on holiday, my one-cup French Coffee press is wrapped up lovingly, just in case there are no coffee-making facilities.
Don't even try and persuade me to try 'the very best instant coffee'! You're wasting your time, I simply will not fall for that!
Freshly roasted and ground is the ultimate, but only possible when going to a roastery. The second best is freshly ground, and my little grinder does the job very well.
Speaking of roasting, do you like a medium or dark roast?
I lean toward the dark roast but sometimes enjoy a smoother medium roast, which is what most coffee shops serve. A light roast simply does not hold any magic for me!
Foreign Ground Coffee is exclusive to one supermarket chain here in SA, and as the story tells you in my photos, they only use single-origin beans; handpicked from one plantation to give a pure regional flavour.
The first step of course is the grind. I almost stick my nose into the ground coffee to get that first whiff of freshly ground beans, heavenly!
You can immediately see by the colour of this bean that it has been roasted to medium strength.

A big rounded coffee scoop into the plunger, slowly pour in hot water, let it stand a little before giving it a good stir, cover with the top but only plunge after about a minute or so - if you can resist the tempting rich coffee aroma!
There is no place to hide when making that coffee as the smell wafts down the passage.
I'm a night owl, hubby was the early bird, so he often used to get up early and make the coffee, a sure way to get me up!
A fluffy topping for sure brings a smile to anyone's face!
Hubby bought a milk frother a long while back, which looks no different from the coffee plunger, but froths milk up beautifully to make a mock cappuccino. In reality just a lovely cup of frothy coffee.
That original milk frother has been replaced over the years, as with our coffee plungers.
Does anyone know why they make the glass so fragile?
Likely so we have to buy new ones over and over!
They don't cost a fortune, so it really is no issue.
The French Press shows that one doesn't need costly coffee machines, and gives one the joy of brewing a good cup of coffee the easy way!
That first sip is pure heaven!

There's truly nothing like a good cup of coffee to start the day with energy. Here in Venezuela, we're also big fans of good coffee, and the ritual of preparing it is almost sacred. Your description of how you wake up and head straight to the kitchen made me feel identified; that first sip of coffee is magical.
In my home, I'm the one who makes the coffee religiously every day at 5 a.m., even on weekends, and after I make it, I bring it to my wife in bed. It's a way of saying good morning to her.
Your wife is a lucky lady @lanzjoseg, nothing like a good cup of coffee to Kickstart the day!
Thank you for popping in!
The lucky one is me, for having her.
Hey there!
Thanks for stopping by:)

Thank you for having me @cinnccf!
Does this mean every single day of mine is wasted? 😆
No worries, I used to be a coffee addict, so I know what you mean and it was a pleasure to look at those gorgeous photos. However, tea for me, Earl Gray please! 😆
Oh dear, then you can always change the phrase😅
I'd likely be saying the same if I wasn't a coffee addict. It's bad, I even put off going for a fasting blood test once because I had to wait till the path lab opens at 8. I did eventually go, terrible I know!
Have a wonderful week @erikah🤗
You too, lovely lady 😘
Thanks for the smiles Lizelle.
I feel the same way you do about coffee, the wonder of it all. I haven't been sleeping well, and have been reducing my caffeine significantly to see if that will help. Alas, I am down to one weak cup of freshly ground organic coffee every morning - no fun at all! I miss that wondrousness so much. It's kind of good that my sleep hasn't improved; maybe the caffeine is not the problem and I'll be able to at least make my one cup of a decent strength. I'd rather drink tea!
Hi @owasco, I only have that one cup early morning, maybe a second in winter, definitely a 2nd or 3rd when at a good coffee shop.
Sleep is something that evades me from time to time but I don't think it's the coffee. Well I don't want to believe so😉
Cannot do without it!
Glad you enjoyed reading 🤗
We must to try that kind of coffee because when you are exploring coffee you are the very good taster in you. Have a Great day and have a nice day again.
Lately I've had trouble sleeping. But I can't stop drinking coffee. It really is something that is part of me. I wake up or in the middle of the day. I feel identified.
I try not to drink coffee at night. It's best to do it during the day. :0 But sometimes my desire wins me over.
I mostly only have a cup in the morning unless I go to a coffee shop. We should avoid having a cup at night, not always easy, and rather drink warm milk. Thank you for stopping by @neruel
OMG! during the grind i could imagine the rich aroma of the coffee beans 😀Enjoy every sip of your coffee 😊
Thank you @gretelarmfeg, that aroma is amazing😉
You're welcome @lizelle ❤️
Indeed!!
It is one thing I would really struggle to give up, tea moreso for me.
I'm currently trying to cut as many sugars as possible from my diet, but couldn't go without tea or coffee!
You make a nice cup too it looks like, I'll have to call around for a cuppa 😄
