Germany Part 12 - Hike to Lake Barmsee (Video + Fotos)

Hey there, long time no see. Finally I got some vacation time, even if its not that far away, I just love to be close to the mountains at the most beautiful part of Germany - Bavaria! <3

Elena, Chapo and I are staying in Krün for some days, the perfect starting point to take a little hike to one of my favorite lakes: Lake Barmsee.

Locals and guests from all over the world find the Barmsee simply beautiful. Rightly so, because the natural spectacle on the largest lake in the Karwendel Alps is impressive: Lake Barmsee can dramatically reflect the Karwendel mountains in the sunset, the white-blue sky or the dreamy winter landscape.

The bathing lake, which is up to 30 meters deep, lies at the foot of the mountains south-west of Krün and Wallgau in the middle of untouched nature; Reeds covered with hoarfrost, gnarled maple trees, and the clear mountain air make the Barmsee very attractive (even in winter).

Until some years ago, the lake was a total secret place. Now it is getting more and more touristy, but it is still worth a visit.

The starting point of our tour is the center of Krün, accessible via the bus stop of the same name. From here we just followed the signs towards Barmsee and got to some beautiful meadows. Already from here the view towards the alps is awesome.

After about 10 minutes walking we reached a little stream. Perfect for Chapo to get some water before we moved on, walking along more meadows with flowers, cows etc.

After that part the forest starts. That part is full of energy and very idyllic. I should have brought mosquito spray though. They were everywhere eating me alive :D

What I really love about that hike, that there are so many different landscapes: Meadows, forest, reed, etc.

After surviving the mosquito attacks, we crossed a small reed field and arrived at lake Barmsee.

From spring onwards, seas of blossoms of crocuses, gentians, campions, and even orchids thrive here. The Barmsee is refreshingly clear, but also up to 24 degrees warm in summer. Ideal for swimming!

This path arrives right at the north-western shore of the lake, where the sun stays long. There you can lie comfortably in the meadow or swim in small pebble bays.

The best thing about Lake Barmsee: Whether hiking, swimming, or cross-country skiing, you always have a view of the mighty mountain panorama.

So we stayed there and went swimming for a bit. Took a break in the shadow, looking at the awesome mountains, and then eventually we went back to Krün, this time taking a little shortcut back through the forest, along the little stream passing a hotel, and then walking by the street before we came back to where we started.

In total it took us about 2 hours to get there and come back. We did go very slow though. A really nice walk with lots of different things to see and do!

As always I hope you enjoyed walking with me.

Cheers,
Liz

Two hours hike, not bad at all! Beautiful landscape! I did some hiking a while back in Heiterwang. Your pictures reminded me of that occasion. Thanks!

Yes, we had several good breaks. It is pretty warm here these days, so for the dog it was important to have breaks and drink sth :) He really loved it! Thanks for stopping by.

Good luck dear @lizanomadsoul. Your selection has been very wise. These beautiful landscapes not only delight the eyes but also the soul. Escaping for a while, or at least trying to, from the convulsive environment will always be the best option for relaxation. The photos that accompany your publication are very beautiful. I hope you continue to enjoy it to the fullest. Take good care of your health, and thank you for making us part of your adventure...

I love the happiness from your face and dog's face! You must have had such a great time out there!

Travelling with a paw buddy is a big dream of mine but since I pay monthly rent and don't have my own homeplace I'm not allowed to get any animals here :(

Thanks @gabrielatravels :) Being in nature is just energizing as you know as my fellow traveler ;) - traveling with the dog is fun and we love him a lot, but also very exhausting and stressful at some times. It is restricting the options as well, so enjoy your freedom. If you still want to do it some time you are welcome to come and borrow him for some days :D

Haha, I'd love to! Especially that I take some risky trails sometimes and I forget about my limits so having a paw partner would make me chill a bit lol xD

Oh no, how come? Would love to meet you in person one day and take a hike all together (with Chapo). Are you gonna be at hivefest?

Just the adrenaline and love to explore the unknown I guess. Not much of a self control I have. Happily or not, since I had COVID my strength is not that good anymore and I sort of follow easier trails now but maybe this whole recovery thing will be over one day.

I'd love to meet you and Chapo as well! How cool would that be? ❤️
But unfortunately I've never attended to any Hive fests and neither will I in the near future 😥

OMG! That’s a Germany that I couldn’t visit! I traveled there in December - January and the landscape was white! Gorgeous but white. The landscape you shared with that light blue sky, the path, the grass, the mountains as a background, and your dog always there for the picture, it’s so perfect! I even could calm my mind just taking a look at your videos and pictures!

Your post is very captivating especially as I have a couple of photos you have attached here that drove me crazy, the first photo is the one with the car stopped on the side of the road, freshly mowed grass and behind those spectacular mountains, the second photo is the one with the pine or fir forest with that narrow road in the middle, all photos are beautiful but these are super, this is strictly my opinion.
