Teton Scenic drive in Wyoming where the Teton never leaves you

The Teton mountain range is located in the Grand Teton National Park in the state of Wyoming in America. It stretches some 40 miles and the scenic drive through it offers some spectacular views. It's my first visit here so I can't compare it to any other season, but I think there is very little view that is as enchanting as snowy top mountains. We started our journey from Jackson, where I was staying the night before and drove the 40+ miles loop around the park stopping at various points on the way.

Mormon Row

The first stop is Mormon Row. As you can tell by the name, this place has an association with the Mormons. Back in the 1890s, a group of Mormons arrived here and set up a community. In it's peak, there were nearly 30 families, and there was even a school, and of course a church. Today all that's left is a few dilapidated buildings, including this barn which features in the mandatory photo shoot for all visitors. The mountain range at the back is the Teton, and it was my first glimpse of this friend whom I'd be seeing all day, as you will if you travel with me on this post.

Glacier View Turnout

You'll see the Teton Mountains in all the photos in this post, but trust me, you will not get bored of it. With such a wide mountain range, and diverse landscape, every stop is different from the other and a beauty in itself.

Teton Point Turnout

Like Teton Point Turnout, it's only a few minutes down the road from Glacier View Turnout, but it's another beautiful painting.

Snake River Overlook

The Teton scenic drive runs along the Snake River and every so often we'd be quite close to the river. When you have a river and a range of mountains as the back drop, it creates another stunning picture, again different from previous. This photo doesn't really do this stop justice as I couldn't take a better shoot of the river.
20240509_121727.jpg

Oxbow Bend

Here's a much better and closer view of the Snake River. At Oxbow Bend the river takes a sharp bend to the west where it enters the Jackson Lake. We'll be going there in a minute. The river is very wide and you can just about see the bend when it meanders away out of sight.

Colter Bay

Colter Bay is on Jackson Lake and is my next stop where I stopped for lunch by the marine. The Tetons offers another stunning view here, and I'm a lot closer to it than this morning. This is definitely my favourite stop out of all the ones during the whole day.

Jackson Lake Overlook

After lunch I ventured further up north, still along Jackson Lake. It's not so built up here compared to Colter Bay. No buildings or anything, just a magnificent viewpoint. Quite remote.

There were a lot of big ice blocks on the bank of the lake. The light shone through emitting a beautiful crystal blue light from the lake. From this angle, you can't really tell how big the ice blocks are, until you see little me standing next to them.
My sister took this photo of me when I walked down to the bank. I particularly like this photo as it captures the three state of the lake at the same time - snow, water and ice.

Mount Moran Turnout

The Teton scenic drive is a loop and after Jackson Lake Overlook I was on the other side of the loop road that is nearer to the Tetons. You could be mistaken that I could almost run towards them. Except that the Tetons are massive and the snow is still quite deep.

Cathedral Group Turnout

I thought here's a funny one. I tried very hard to see how these peaks look like cathedrals or anything related to religious buildings, but failed in the end. Not that it mattered. They could have called this Crocs Sandals Turnout, it'd still be a beautiful.

Jenny Lake

And finally, I reach one of the, if not the most popular point - Jenny Lake. The road to Jenny Lake is closed during the winter season due to snow and I was very lucky that it had just opened the week before I came here.

However, I was still too early for the summer season. The lake was still frozen, not that I mind, but it meant I couldn't catch the ferry across the lake nor do any hikes. Well, life is never perfect. My whole day is blessed with my new friend Teton accompanying me. She's as loyal and gentle as my trusted little friend Snowpea who never lets me down. I couldn't have asked for a better travel companion to spend a day with.

Thanks for showing us some parts of America.. it has pretty countryside actually, not just tall buildings and bustling cities...

Apparently there's a lot of wilderness in America, the country is so vast. Often we just get to see the main cities and not the other side of it, that's what I found out from this trip

YAY! I am so happy you got to experience the beauty of the Tetons. I love the Snake River overlook and Oxbow. I need to go to Colter Bay next time. Jenny Lake is wonderful in the summer when you hike around it and sail on a boat surrounded by the mountains.

I'm gutted that Jenny Lake wasn't fully opened yet, but to be honest,it was late afternoon by the time we arrived and some in our group were already a little tired. I wanted to walk over to the lakeside from the car park, think it was about 10-15 minutes walk but the others weren't too keen to do that so I had to give it a miss. But nevermind, the rest of the trip was amazing. Thanks for the inspiration again Sara!!

Wow, Absolutely beautiful! I definitely need to add this to my list of things to do when my wife and I finally travel out west. Was this a bus tour too or did you folks drive yourselves?

We drove ourselves, quite a challenge, 10 of us plus 20 days luggage in a 15 seater transit. That was a fun experience in itself. Originally we had considered doing a bus tour for the whole US trip but figured that would be less flexible. Self drive proved to be much better except I was responsible for the itinerary, that was quite a lot of work but my American geography has improved a lot since 😀

Very cool! My mom and dad took a bus trip to Nova Scotia a while ago and they had the same issues. They didn't like being on someone else's schedule. I think that would drive me crazy too! It sounds like you did a great job with this!

If you don't mind driving, and it seems American's are used to long distance driving, personally I think it's definitely the best way to go. I spoke to loads of locals who said they've driven 2 days from their hometown as if they've just driven down the road!!

Yeah, the distances are crazy around here. It takes us four hours to get to our inlaws and I don't really mind that drive too much. I do it every other month or so. That only takes us to the next state. In Michigan you can drive something like 11 hours and still be in the same state depending on where you start and where you stop.

Wow! The blue sky with some scattered drop of white cloud, snow coverd mountains and ground with the yellow surface and the snakelike river make a complete heavenly look. Only missed some green color as it is still cold I guess. Thanks for sharing your journey to the Teton mountain range.

Not much greenery around by comparison, except for the pine trees, there were lots of them standing strong on the mountains

Hey! We're on the same continent!

If you happen to be near Cleveland while you're in the states, be sure to let me know! But of course, who in the world would be visiting Ohio?! 😂

My heart aches for the beautiful and wild expanse that exists out west... Even as near as WI, the world just changes... You photos moved my heart, as did the wonderful description of your experience! Thanks for the great read 🤗

Need to check where Ohio is first..oh, it's by the border with Canada. The only time I've come across Cleveland so far, is from one of our clients many years ago, they had many locations in America. Cleveland being one of them.

I'd love to visit more US cities but it seems that many of them aren't very drive free friendly. Need to do more research as I'd definitely like to go back to America again, and will definitely hit you up if I make it to Cleveland!!
