Chit chat Friday : Red (and a little guessing game)

avatar
(Edited)

Red is a lucky colour in many Asian cultures and since I have lived in Asia for a long time, my album is filled with a lot of red photos.

This was taken in December 2019, my last Christmas in Taiwan. I spent it with some friends in an indigenous village up the lowland mountains. It would be unusual not to go for a hike during a day out in Taiwan accompanied with making some tea during rest. I posted about that day out previously. Whilst waiting for our tea, me and my friends saw this plant, it might be a Christmas plant, I'm not sure. We were all vying to get the best shot of it against the ocean blue sky.

Product designers are very clever people, they can turn basic functional items into aesthetically pleasing objects when not in use. Space in Taiwan can be a premium, and this bookshop has killed two birds with one stone by adding an interesting feature to their store with the chairs they use when hosting events.

Or how about this? Often random everyday objects can create very interesting images, like these .... actually, let's play a little guessing game, shall we? I bought these when I moved into my new apartment in Taiwan. Do you know what they are? I have erased the top part of the object otherwise it will be very easy to guess. I will reveal the answer when the first person guesses correctly and he/she will get 2 HBD. Come on and have some fun at guessing!!!
Edit We have a winner already 😀

We've left Taiwan now, and are in Croatia for HiveFest in 2024. I can't remember taking this photo but the timestamps tells me where and when this photo was taken. I wonder which meal this was....? Happy memories.

And finally, my favourite red photo. A few years ago our town hosted an exhibition called See Monster. It was an old north sea rig, repurposed into the largest public art installation in the UK. I was part of the volunteer team to welcome and guide visitors, and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I loved walking up the 35 meter tall See Monster, seeing the town from another perspective not normally available, and interacting with the hundreds of thousands of visitors during those 8 weeks. At night time, the See Monster would light up in different colours, it was so magical and surreal. Often, I'd just stand at the base and admire it in awe when there were few visitors towards the end of the day.

This collection of photos is part of the Photo essay Red contest hosted by @friendlymoose @stresskiller. If you have your own collection why not share as well. And before you do, let me know which is your favourite photo from above, and don't forget to see if you can see what the object is in the third image.

I'm writing this as a Chit Chat Friday series of post with the objective of driving up engagement and communication on Hive. The content will evolve around daily life things making it easy for everyone to take part to engage with one another. Hopefully it will interest you to make genuine engagement instead of two word spams like "Nice photos" "Very beautiful" or calling bots. I will be muting those comments.

That chair stack is so pleasing to the eye, isn't it!

I have worked with the Chinese Community for years, and I remember Red being a lucky colour. Our Uniform was red and black as well.

The Old Rig See Monster is an interesting exhibition, nice to see it reused, don't think I've seen an oil rig reused before!

I love how the legs spiral around and they've stacked the black and red stools separately

The See Monster was a very creative project, I was sad to see it go afterwards, it left a big wole in the town for a long time

These pictures are really amazing.

For a moment I thought the plate and forks were flowers. I had to look closely before I realized it was not.

I woke up, and among the first things I did was travel back in time—five years ago—and almost taste a natural grape slushie.
I thought how truly delicious that would be, especially compared to the artificial-flavored slushies they sell around here in those questionably hygienic little carts.
When I was a kid, I used to drink slushies all the time after school… not so much now that I’m older I’ve grown up, since I’m not really into street food.
Girl, that riddle lasted less than a meringue at a school gate. 😂
By the way, your blog header has so many red things, and those chairs, I love them.

That easy was it? I'm a nice person, I like to make things easy for my friends😄

That grape slushie, now ready back that post, I remember how nice it was, have never tries anything like it again

Curious, how much is your monthly electricity bill now? Also what is the price of gasoline? Heating bill in winter.

You used to had a list of cost of common goods and services, I enjoyed that a lot.

Where I am going with this is the Energy Policy of UK and perhaps Europe in general. I feel that a lot of the current socio economic issues of Europe is rooted to that.

Just checked, that was 5 months ago. Time for another round. I think maybe I should get myself organised and do this as a quarterly thing. It will be interesting

Loved those posts about that sea monster, you were very lucky yo experience it.

As for the mystery object, is it somewhere to put ya sausage roll when taking a shower?

I absolutely loved being a volunteer there. It attracted a lot of visitors and at the peak, they had to queue nearly an hour to get in, it was popular

If there was a creativity prize, you'd sure win!

Red is a beautiful color that appears a lot in here during Fall... the nature becomes so pretty! It is probably my favorite scenery of the year.

What a wonderful set of red-themed photos! The shot of the old sea rig is amazing! But my fave photo is the flatware sticking out from the red napkins! That's super-creative! ❤️

I'd never have guessed those were clothing hangers! My favourite is the stacked chairs in the bookshop! It must have been a great experience volunteering on the Sea Monster! No fear of heights, right?
Enjoy the rest of your weekend LUT, from a cold and wet Durban <3

The first time I got to the top, climbing the last section via the narrow staircase, it was a little jelly legs, but I loved it after that, and walked up and down at least two or three times every time I was on duty.

Quite a few visitors were afraid of heights, some refused to go up, and others need a little coaxing and support. It was lovely when I was able to accompany them to the top and they enjoyed it more than they thought they would.

I'm braver when someone holds my hand, but extreme heights I simply cannot do. It must be a nice feeling though when you see the look on their faces when they see the views from atop and helping them overcome their fear!

That 'see' monster is amazing! I love public art exhibits - they're so communal and active. I didn't think of red as being lucky, but of course it is in some cultures.

The See Monster was definitely the best volunteer experience I've done so far (ok, I've only done two 👍), but it's so unique making it even more special

Above all, through your great skill, this magnificent view of flowers on top of that huge circular hill that looks really red. This magnificent red color is really a very powerful color, only people like this color with ease. Thank you very much for sharing your wonderful happy memories with this magnificent red color.
