“WARWICK HALL” - Warwick-on-Eden, Carlisle, UK 🇬🇧 ~ Wednesday Walk and some Time Traveling 🧳 📦

Hi all 👋🏻

Let’s go BACK IN TIME 🕰️ a bit… yep… I suggest you come along for a time travel experience…
This experience will start today, I have so much to tell and show you 😊 I don’t want to skip parts.

I will divide the adventures over my coming posts where I will show you what was going on the last month bit by bit 😊
Truly some exciting adventures and busy times will come by!
So you can understand why I was so busy lately 😇

Some of you know what I am talking about, some don’t. Just a small recap… I needed to move out of the UK as things didn’t go as planned / imagined after our move from Spain 🇪🇸 to Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 last December.
This post will start with our last days on the WEST COAST of Scotland… 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
The last weeks there I was going back and forth from Scotland to the Stamford region (12 hour drive over 2 days… 🚗🚗) where the parents in-law live ~ to tile their floors 🤓 this was hard work and during a time I should have been focussing on packing our belongings for a country move. 📦📦📦
I posted about the tiling back then… ”Let’s TILE some handmade HEXAGON TERRACOTTA TILES”
After we returned to Scotland I had to hurry up the packing 📦 in between tiling and getting ready for moving countries.

So, are you ready to come along today?

Let’s start 😎

With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk challenge and Make me Smile challenge. That are hosted by @tattoodjay and @elizacheng every week on Wednesday.

‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in!… the community is run by @tattoodjay.
Look at his last Wednesdaywalk post here: “Wednesday Walk a couple of short walks“
It will tell you also the rules of joining in at the Wednesday walk posts 😁 come join us!

Today’s selection will be of 62 photographs.
Dates: 23 to 29 April 2023.
The Photographs in this post are all taken with my iPhone 📱🤓
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are experiencing my adventures and later on walking along with me on this #walk, to 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 #discover everything what I saw, like the little #details seen through my eyes and the stunning #scenery, #architecture, #forest, #flowers, #fields and #sheep. 😊

The living room was truly a mess during the packing… boxes and wrapping in every corner.

The furniture needed to be disassembled and wrapped and all belongings needed to be packed for a long journey to a NEW COUNTRY.

Bit by bit… the rooms on the ground floor were filling up with boxes 📦📦📦 and furniture.

During this period I captured the views several times and thought… I surely will miss the WEST COAST of SCOTLAND 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I had no time to explore it all… while only living there 3 months.
Here you see a cloudy afternoon on 23 of April.

I will visit it again 😎 I promise. Too much I didn’t see.

On 26 April it was the day of the “movers picking up all our belongings” 🚛🚛📦📦 early morning.

If you think this truck looks small you are right… hahaha 🤣
They were contracted by my movers and somehow they thought our 18 something m3 would fit in there… (READ : TOOOOOO SMALL) TRUCK. Is it a truck or shall I say VAN?

So as we were living remote… this meant they came all the way from Inverness… they had to go back to their warehouse, unload and drive the 1 hour 15 minutes journey again in the afternoon… to pick everything else up that didn’t fit the first time 🫣

Nope I will not elaborate how I felt that day. 🤐
My mover said weeks ago a 30m3 truck would come and fetch all… no worries it surely fits… that clearly didn’t happen. 🫣

But… eventually… they worked hard

and got it all loaded up and we waved good bye 👋🏻 to our belongings late in the afternoon. As at this time I didn’t know when we would see them again. I was aiming for 9 May 🤓

The next day we cleaned the rental house and put back the owners furniture in the same spots when we entered the house…
The day after : 28 April was our last day/ morning.

So we had to take apart our STARLINK… as we sure are taking it.

In settings you can STOW it.

Yes I will 🤓 click!

And Starlink is stowed so we can take it apart…

…put it in the box again to take with us to our next country 😎📡

After filling up the car the next hour or so… it literally came to the roof…

We closed the garage door for the last time 🤓

And started our journey down to the in-laws for some more tiling.
The first day we drove almost 6 hours to our accommodation for the night 🏨 what was located in Carlisle… to be precise: WARWICK-ON-EDEN 🇬🇧

Let’s start the drive 🚗🚗🚗
Driving off the mountain 🏔️ we lived…

Along the road…

First stop :
Post office just outside of Inverness

Why?

Because we needed to post the keys of the rental house we lived in for the last months… and never saw the landlord or an agent that showed us the house… or could do a check out this day.
hahaha 🤣

If you don’t remember our moving in date end of January. The garage was open with the keys inside… 😳 and the agent met us along the road somewhere. She didn’t dare to drive up the mountain in the snow. So we rented it unseen… and un showed… (is that a word?)

We posted the keys 🔑

Bye bye… that was officially our handover of the rental house…
Send this receipt with tracking number to the landlord and that was it.

We had some lunch in Inverness as it was past lunch time already. Before we started our 5 hour journey further.

We filled up the car with diesel ⛽️

And hours later… and a coffee (cappuccino) break along the road here and there.
We saw the sign for Carlisle around 20:00h in the evening.

We stayed in a bed and breakfast for the night. The location was exactly half way to where we had to drive to over these 2 days.
The entrance to the bed and breakfast.

It is a stunning location.
We stayed at WARWICK HALL 😊 as we wanted some comfort after a very stressful period.

Screenshot of the Location on Google maps, see the pinned location :

More information about the Warwick Hall and the grounds around it you can find here: “Warwick Hall”

Do have a look… it’s interesting.
The website states;

History of Warwick Hall:
The original Warwick Hall was occupied by the Warwick family until Ann Warwick died unmarried in 1774. The Warwick family were catholic and attended to by Benedictine priests who lived in the hall. The original hall was substantially rebuilt in 1828.

After the original hall was destroyed by fire in 1936 a new hall was constructed in the neo-Georgian style by John Laing & Son. The rebuilding was commissioned by Colonel Guy Elwes and the hall remained in the Elwes family until Mrs Aileen Elwes (daughter of Charles Liddell) died in 1996.

An American from Worcester, Mass Vall Marriner bought Warwick Hall in 1998 with her second husband, Nick, an English accountant and enthusiastic fisherman and hunter.
One of the main attractions of the 260-acre estate is pheasant shooting and also includes two miles of private trout and salmon fishing, as well as open fields and private woodland.
It started off with 14 bedrooms and not enough bathrooms. It now has nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

Built on the foundations of an 18th-century home that burned in 1936, Warwick Hall is made of stone, in neo-Georgian style with period touches. The previous owners had a sumptuous Roman Catholic chapel with gold railings, red silk-draped walls and lace on the windows.
Source!

After checking in, it was close to getting dark already.
So we went into our room and relaxed for the evening.
The main entrance has this wonderful staircase:

View out of the window of the room… we stayed in a studio on the ground floor.

The very comfy bed 🛏️

THE NEXT MORNING
We went for our #breakfast at 8 in the morning and our view looked like this 🥰

One could see the river running through the large estate… as you could read above. This country house has 260 acres of grounds 🤩

The table was decorated nicely with freshly picked flowers.

The placemats depicting the house itself with spring flowers.

Looking to the left towards the rest of the breakfast room. I avoided the right side as more guests were present. Beautiful and bright ☀️

Love the painted floors. 🥰

After ordering… our breakfast came quickly.
Hubby’s small English breakfast.

And mine:
French toast with berries and syrup.

Yep… another photo… and do you know why?
THIS WAS THE BEST FRENCH TOAST I HAD EVER EATEN!!

Seriously… it was amazing. Coming from somebody that (almost) never eats breakfast hahaha 🤣 this means a lot. Loved it and wished I could have this everyday 🥰

After breakfast we walked around some other rooms of this country house.

Somehow it feels homely, as the owner lives also on this property and one sees personal belongings around. Like family photos.

Their personal books, also for others to read.

Going back to our studio… we pass by the windows on the outside we looked through the evening before. We are getting our coats 🧥

Let’s start our WALK now:
Are you coming along on this early morning walk at 9? 😉😊

You must think finally the walk… hehehe 🤭 but I hope you liked catching up on what happened so far.

As the grounds are large it does have some trails one can walk. We choose the one around the house and along the river.
We see:

Looking back at the country house. It’s stunning.

The river is next to us.

Zooming in we see a gathering… it looks like they are getting ready for some fishing.

We follow the path.

Next to us we see spring flowers popping up…

It’s very quiet this early in the morning. No other guests have gone for a walk.

View towards the bridge on the other side of the river.

The fields towards the left of us have some sheep 🐑 in them, and I see little lambs too 🥰 soooo cute.

Look at them… aaawwww 🤗 no I didn’t go and cuddle them hehehe 🤭

A close up of some dandelion seeds.

The path divides now… towards the left or follow the river.

We went left here… come along and look for the birdhouses in these trees.

We ended up along a walled garden. Some trees had some #blossoms 🌸🌸🌸

We didn’t go into the walled garden as we didn’t have hours to explore this morning as a long journey had to be made… 🚗🚗🚗

So we went along a path through the fields of the sheep.

Some #ducks 🦆 joined the sheep 🐑

One look back at the river before we take in the gardens at the house.

The gardens at the back… we looked out over them during breakfast.

Some statues are well placed.

The tulips are flowering during this early spring day.

#alwaysaflower as @dswigle tells us that can’t be missed in a post 🥰

The #tulips come in many colours… see how bright these are.

The side of the house.

Some other buildings in the back. Let’s check them out before we go. 😎

Cool looking buildings for the staff and maintenance.

Suddenly I see a hare 🐰

Zooming in for you… do you see it?
It is very large. I first thought it was a dog.

Let’s go back and start our next roadtrip further 🚗🚗

And with this last photograph I say “that’s all for today’s post and UPDATE my friends, join me next time for more #updates, #adventures, #stories and #photographs 😎👋🏻 Even some #artworks once in a while will come by” 🎨
Thank you so much for looking, and reading.

that B&B looks like a nice place to stay indeed , i've only been to the UK once and i hated the boat trip.

That moving van looks like a borent truck you can rent for a day to move yourself with the help of some friends.

White beans for breakfast i'll pass, no idea what that french toast is made of but it looks sweet so that would work :)

i will have a look at you other website https://jackie-fineart.pixels.com/ to see if that could also work for me .

It was lovely to stay for the night and have a walk in the morning made it perfect.
Maybe fly next time to the UK.
I must say I haven’t seen much of the country either. Hubby is from there but we met when we both lived in Spain. I would like to explore the UK much more as it has some lovely areas… I discovered driving up and down along the country.

Yep hahaha precies die hahaha 😜 it was crazy a large company (international) hired such a small one to pick up our stuff. We didn’t even go cheap in the quotes received for the move. This was middle of the road.

I never understands why he eats those for breakfast… I will never ever.
French toast are wentelteefjes in Dutch 😉 lekker! These were perfectly made.

For me it works well so far, although I haven’t been marketing it much the last years due to tooooo many moves around and not much time.
The quality they send out is great. So many products you can put your photography and artworks on. It’s just another medium to put out there.
Your photos would make lovely prints. Why not try it for a while. 😎
Let me know when you do, I give you some tips how to navigate. Pixels is basically FAA. Fine Art America.

Have a great day @stresskiller 👋🏻

Redbubble is ok too, I’m there too. But only have a few artworks available.
Will have to add some more to see how it truly works in the long run.
Yes, nft’s are the hype… I haven’t looked into it yet. Maybe one day.

You have been busy Jackie and it has surely been a while.
Your breakfast looks too stunning to eat lol, I will opt for yours over your hubby's breakfast.

Lol, the truck does, look small, I am happy that you guys are moving with your belongings, I am still without a couch in my lounge, a fridge, or even a washing machine, I sold all of my stuff before moving from South Africa.

The guest house you stayed at looked quite homely and beautifully furnished, the gathering at the riverside for fishing makes me miss the fishing spots in South Africa.

This is an interesting walk through Jackie, thanks for sharing and showing us what you have been up to.

Oh I have been busy and still are. Sorting out all paperwork etc.
also this rental… the washing machine and fridge didn’t work. The landlord send a man to fix it a few times. But he didn’t manage.
So finally yesterday I got another second hand one. So can finally wash my clothes hahaha so I know how you feel after being here almost 3 weeks. I was running out of stuff… !LOL
Hopefully the fridge comes next week…

The breakfast was amazing. I never have breakfast but that one I could always eat. 😎

We don’t have everything for a house, but enough to get by. This rental didn’t have much… so had to unpack 50 % of our boxes. It (our belongings) reached us well even with lots of obstacles, I will post in a few days.

The b&b was stunning… a little treat to us selves hehehe 🤭
Happy you came along on my adventure Joe.
Thank you so much!
Have a great weekend 👋🏻☀️

Appliances can be difficult to fix, would have been nice if the landlord made sure they are working for tenants to use and not embark on fixing only when tenants move in but anyway we do things differently.
I hope your fridge arrives so that you are covered in that aspect.

Am glad to hear you are making progress despite your busy schedules.

Not much of a change for me lol, I have been applying for jobs almost daily.
But I am all good though.

Enjoy the weekend Jackie, and keep well.

Yep, the landlord thought he could get away with leaving the appliances that were clearly from the time the house was build. 2004… and he bought this place as a repossession… so the state was horrible. It took me a full day to only clean the (small… read tiny…) kitchen cabinets. If I had had time… I would have searched longer for a rental. But I needed a place to stay. The housing shortage is still horrible.
Still waiting for a fridge. Hahaha

Good to hear you are all good Joe 😊 enjoy your week further 👋🏻☀️
And May you hear something about a job soon 🍀🍀🍀🍀

I wonder why the housing shortage is so horrible in Ireland, it's unbelievable, and taking so long to remedy the situation.

Hahaha don't worry you will get your fridge sooner than me, I don't know when I will have money to buy one 😃

Amen Jackie, I need a job lol. Am even looking into remote, if you know of a remote job I might be able to do, please share.

Enjoy the week ahead.

It is taking a longggg time. It has several reasons actually. And all of them are not resolved easily. We will see the next years what will happy.
I am just so happy I found something to live 🤓

Let’s see, I keep you posted on the fridge. But I understand. You have to save up for it, I just need to wait until the landlord brings one.
Crossing my fingers you can soon 🍀🍀🍀 is there not a second hand market or page you can look at?
Here fridges (old working ones) are pretty cheap. No idea where you are…

If I hear something, I will let you know for a remote one if something comes up. It’s hard at the moment. As many companies are going back to “in the office” and not remote anymore. Or hybrid.

Thank you, you do the same Joe! 🎉🎉👋🏻😊

I have not looked at getting a secondhand one am sure there I can find one but am just holding on in the meantime for the opportunity to buy a new one.

True, finding a place to stay for now is better then you will take your time to find a more suitable one. All the best with that.

Thanks, Jackie, I trust you will.

It is always an option… but I fully understand.
Guess what, got a message from the landlord tomorrow a company will bring a fridge 😎 woohhooo

Exactly like that. Now we have time and a roof above our heads. Even though we are climbing around boxes hahaha all will be fine. !LOL
Thanks a lot Joe 👋🏻😊

I managed to post today an update, last week in the UK.
You are welcome.

Had to go to the post office this morning to post my drivers license to exchange it. It was a 20 minute walk one way… so not too bad 😉
Have a great day!

Oh, sweet Jackie, you will be having a fridge in a few hours, that is cool that the landlord is doing the right thing.

Lol, just don't break the boxes you are still going to need them.

I saw your post, just now before responding to you, I will be checking it out shortly, must be another interesting one.
40 minutes walk in both directions isn't bad I will actually like that to stretch the muscles. But I do go for walks.

A great day to you as well, Jackie. Thanks

Yes, one more sleep hahaha
It took him a while… but luckily he sorted that one out.

Yep, will need them and the stuff that’s in there. Most is art supplies and things we have no space for.

Cool, thanks!
Yep, it isn’t bad. It’s a good walk to do to stretch the muscles. I am used to longer walks in the mountains and forests 🌳 but I prefer those to doing chores 😂
Thank you kindly Joe 👋🏻😊 you are welcome.

Still a walk Joe so all good.
Today was a bit of a challenge…
So the delivery guy of the fridge never messaged me what time he would come around. I hate that.
So he just showed up. And the fridge/ freezer was in a large box. He did bring it in the kitchen. Took the old one and left.
He wasn’t willing to take it out of the box or install it in the space for it.

So I had to unpack this thing… ok it wasn’t large just 152cm and about 55 deep and wide. But still the box was larger.
Than I had to lift the thing up into the space what was 30cm up.
I shouldn’t have done that… but got it in eventually hehehe 🤭
I have a fridge now wooohhhooo 🎉 so happy with it. Now I can stock up a bit and put things in the freezer.

After that I wrote a long post… the first part of the ferry 🚢 ride to move. I included many many photos Joe. If you fancy reading about that journey. I will try to post the last part tomorrow 🤓😉

Have a great evening 👋🏻

Shame he should have at least helped, it is a bit unprofessional to just rock up as well, normally we call the client and give ETA so the client knows we are on our way, what if he gets there and you are not at home?

It's a shame you shouldn't be lifting the fridge to unbox it due to the injury you sustained from the tiling but I understand it had to be done.
Lol, am happy for you now that you have a fridge.

I will be checking out the post 😃 I am kind of spending more time on job-hunting sites lately.

Good night Jackie 🙂

I know… it was crazy. Very unprofessional… but it was a delivery service for a (very) cheap shop. Like the fridge is too. It has an F rating for energy efficiency 😳 that tells you enough hahaha 😂

Yep felt it all day, lifting that thing in it’s spot. Sometimes one has to do thing… you know.
But… I HAVE A FRIDGE NOW. So that’s good. Especially now the temperatures go up here. This week around 21-24 degrees Celsius.

I fully understand. Maybe something to look into.
What about your English? How good is it? Maybe you can look into teaching English to children on-line.
I don’t know which companies or websites that does do that but I have heard about it a few times.

Good morning Joe 👋🏻😊 have a lovely day!

My English is very good, I have thought of teaching English here in the French school but my problem is I don't understand a bit of French to help in teaching English. I have not explored the online option, I will look into it, thanks.

That’s great… but remember. The language teachers in many school will not speak the local language and converse only in the subject. So the people… kids… learn very fast.

Worth having a look into it.
Thanks a lot, just had lunch… did write my post and posted the sunrise photos and video 🌅
I did a lot already.
Now relax a bit and then some chores around the house.

Thank you Joe, enjoy yours 😊

Good afternoon Joe 👋🏻😊

So far so good… was searching for curtains to hang up. But I have to go through many boxes to find them. Hopefully I do this afternoon.
The sun wakes me up at 5 in the morning… so have to layer a few more curtains to make it darker.

Thanks 😎

Happy I could share it with you @jacoalberts 😊 more updates soon.

Beautiful #wednesdaywalk in Warwick. That french toast does look yummy especially next to the English breakfast. I've never been a fan of English breakfasts. Starlink! We saw Starlink satellites fly over one night here in Vermont. 19 or 20 bright, fast moving lights all spaced out evenly shot across the sky from horizon to horizon. All in about one minute. Really weird. Like SciFi or something.

Thank you so much @steven-patrick 😊👋🏻
I don’t like English breakfasts either.., don’t understand it hahaha beans and such meat early in the morning hahaha !LOL

Yes, we needed Starlink end of January when we moved to Scotland. It was so remote up there… I couldn’t have any other service for internet. I posted a whole unboxing and first impressions of it in an older post : Here if you are interested in my opinions 🤓

What cool you saw them go over… wow. Really like Sci-fi 😎
Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for checking out my post.

So good to read this update of you, well the first steps after the moving out. We thought about you a few days ago, where is now littlebee hehehe and here you are with a post!

Omg, that little van that came for the belongings... it makes me dizzy to think about all those times they had to drive one part of the stuff and then drive back, and again... huh

Nope I will not elaborate how I felt that day. 🤐

And we will not ask, though I can imagine :D

Hahaha, posting the keys and you have never met the landlord. I have never met my landlord either 😂

The place where you stayed was nice, that living room is so beautiful, indeed feels like home! And the breakfast!!!! From dreams!

Aaawwww that’s lovely to hear. I got so busy, even the last week… what I didn’t expected.

Yep, just crazy to think about it. Luckily they did get it sorted all on the same day, as we needed to move out quickly. Didn’t want more days back and forth.

It was crazy, not even an agent or friend or anybody checked the house after we left. We even had to get it ready for next day holiday guests 😳 can you believe that. Hehehe 🤭

That breakfast… oh I could eat it everyday. Thinking about it makes me hungry even though I just had a salad 🥗
It was a nice break from all. Will post the next update today or tomorrow 🤓

Hello Hello! You have sent smoke signals! What a trip and wow! You sure do know how to stir up the excitement! :) I thought I disappeared into the sunset for a few months, but, you take the cake. (Oh, but the cake is delicious! Chocolate perhaps!)

That was amazing about the house in Scotland. Never meeting anyone? I say that, but vacation rentals work like that all the time. But a house is different than they are, aren't they? I actually never met most of the renters I had. It always went smoothly and I never had any problem. Still, when you wrote about that, I thought, how odd. LOL

What a great daughter-in-law you are! Tiling is never easy and especially with those materials... Wait~ Oh, great~ You didn't forget Starlink~ :)

I want to live in the castle Estate !! Wow~ It is always so good to see you! ❤️

I did sent some smoke signals… hahaha 🤣 I so tried to be around, but got really busy sorting out lots of things. Like the appliances in the house broke down one after the other. Somebody came to fix 3 times… Luckily the landlord got a second hand washing machine now, still waiting on a fridge. So had to catch up washing too…
Then paperwork goes a bit different here. For most things they send confirmations, codes to your home address. You have to wait for that, and with it you can continue to next steps. Almost all sorted out… almost 🍀🍀😉🤓

Chocolate always Denise 🥰 nom nom…
Trying to catch up today.

The trip was a journey indeed, with a stop at the in-laws again. And then we hopped over. Will post today or tomorrow the next part. 🤓 I will so try.
Happy you came along for this part. 😊

I know, sometimes it works well… but checking out, I always met somebody that checked the house or give the keys to. The landlord… asked us to get the house “holiday rental” ready… the next day guests would come. After I said how are you checking for the end of rental check and to ensure I get the deposit back… as guests don’t treat it well always… she said her sister would do it 10 days later 😳 you know… I think that never happened and she hoped we left it well. We got the deposit back without questions 3 weeks later. So I saw no agent or friend no nothing… just odd.

Aawww thanks Denise 🥰 I do my best.
Yep… and Starlink is all set up and working. As we are again remote as in rural remote this time. Hahaha so it was needed. We had to fully factory reset it and do a transfer. So needed to add Starlink as a new device this time to our account.

The estate is a stunning place to be… for me… maybe a bit too big hehehe 🤭 but the grounds… yes please 🤩 who knows where we will end. Hope it’s next to some forests 🌳
This rental is temporary again… hubby will join mid July and I hope he has a job lining up for then. They couldn’t transfer it to Ireland. 🫣 Something will work out. I am sure.

And I love talking to you 👋🏻😊 hi Denise @dswigle, hope you are well and enjoying the spring. 🌺🌸
Happy Wednesday!

Moving house is most difficult for me particularly if you're settled in the place you are in. Leaving the comfort, the normalcy, familiarity, the friends that you made, etc. All will be missed. Adjusting to a new place is not my favorite thing to do, even if the new place is as nice a place from previous, haha. I admire your flexibility and enthusiasm. You seemed to be used to moving from place to place.

You left a beautiful house...and everything about Warwick Hall looks luxurious from interior to exterior. Superb! 👍👍👍

Your breakfast looks beautiful, tasty and healthy. 😋😋😋 Who can resist that? And I have to say, you captured it beautifully. 🥰

Thanks for sharing us this lovely Wednesday Walk. All photos are great to see. I love the interior design and the garden with lovely flowers even the green field with the sheep and ducks.

Have a nice Friday! 🌻🌻🌻

Hehehe yep… close to 50 moves now, 7 country moves. I soooo need to settle down. I am tired. !LOL
One day 😊

The stop was great and definitely needed to rest a bit before another full day of driving to the in-laws.

Thank you so much, I so wished I could have that breakfast again… or better every day 😎
