PART 1 of 6 ~ Market Friday ~ “ROAD TRIP NORTH - 305 km” our transit of moving countries 📦🚛✈️

Hi all 👋🏻

With this post in our lovely #community this Friday for the #MarketFriday by @dswigle - Denise.
I will show you what I have done yesterday and today during our first part of our long Journey that lies ahead. 😎
We started around Stamford, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and drove about 305 km /190 Miles NORTH to the Lake District. The entire trip was 5,5 hours.
The route above is approximately the route we took, we went a bit more over the countryside roads so the journey was a bit further and longer. 🚗🚗

We reached Ambleside to be precise.
It is located on Lake Windermere, the top on this map 🗺 (located in the hallway of this apartment complex)

Tomorrow morning we will be going further on our road trip 😉😁 so stay tuned for part 2 of 6 soon.
Where will we end up next?
At this point it could be anywhere… 😇

I will post a walk later, in due course, through this cute town of Ambleside in the LAKE DISTRICT. As it is pretty I can tell you 🥰 and has so much charm.

Some of you already know what I was doing during the last weeks… if you don’t know yet;
We are moving and are still in transit of our country move. (This will be the case until mid January…)
We left Spain 🇪🇸 see this post: ✈️ Our flight out of Spain 🇪🇸 ~ “Market Friday” we are in transit of moving countries 📦🚛✈️
I made an update in this post: Update, Things are not always going as planned ~ “Market Friday in Stamford UK” we are still in transit of moving countries 📦🚛✈️ and at the moment we started our next adventures, our journey towards our final destination after we visited the in-laws and friends in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 for the holidays.
As of today we still have no rental lined up yet, yep… technically I am ”home- and country less” so we extended our journey a bit with some random stays 😉
Let me take you along to our visits and those stays in the next days/ weeks… 😎

Let me show you now PART 1 of the new update and our journey from yesterday 😉🤓


After squeezing all the suitcases in the car’s boot and on the back seat… it looked pretty full hahaha 🤣
Do you remember all our suitcases?
4 small ones and 4 large ones 🧳🧳🎒🎒and now some Christmas presents and food too…

Let the journey start: UP NORTH IT IS… on the wrong side of the road I must say… hahaha 🤣 scary…

We only took a small amount of motorways. The majority of roads were country roads between villages. As what fun do you have driving only motorways 🚗🚗 nope… not my thing, let’s go on adventures and off the beaten paths.

We pass by forests…

Well known forests like here, Sherwood Forest. 🌳🌳🌳🌳

If you don’t know it… it is known for ROBIN HOOD 🏹

Here we see a restaurant with this name.

Driving further we see the countryside come by…

Some sheep 🐑🐑🐑🐑

As we left in the early morning around 10:00h, it’s time to stop for some lunch now:

We stopped at a farm that had a restaurant next to it.
Yummy Yorkshire Parlour & Hide and Hoof was it’s name. Location in Huddersfield.

We had cappuccinos. (Of course… 😉)

Some eggs Benedict:

And pancakes with bacon and poached egg.

A little view of the restaurant, I didn’t take more as it was busy and didn’t want to invade on others privacy.

After lunch we drive further… seeing funny place names 🤣😂

More countryside and grey skies.

It is getting dark around 1600h so slowly we see lights along the roads… here in the form of a horse 🐎 do you see it?

We reached the Lake District… here it tells us South Lakes.

It is really dark now and the last 45 minutes we had torrential rain along the way… it made it hard to see with opposite traffic.

But… we made it safe and sound after a long journey. We checked into the holiday accommodation and the view out over the town of AMBLESIDE looks like this:

The living room of the holiday accommodation: cozy.

We didn’t do much in the evening, just getting organised and resting. (As I’m still not fully recovered) We went to bed rather early hehehe 🤭 as with so much rain and darkness it is no fun to go out… we knew today would be dry… so we went out and explored the town during daytime.

Waking up to this view isn’t bad at all 😎🥰 look!!! now you see the town well. Tucked away between mountains and close to the lake.

We wandered around this town all morning and those photos will follow soon 😉 I took my CANON out to play 😁 I will transfer and edit them in the next days.

For lunch we went to another cute restaurant and had:
Cappuccino and a hot chocolate for me this time 🥰 yep yep… I know, I would normally always have a cappuccino, but somehow this cute town made me have a hot chocolate 😁

Cuban sandwich for me.

Cumberland Sausage, egg and ciabatta for hubby.

A side salad to share.

The name of this restaurant was DODDS Restaurant in Ambleside.

That was an adventurous drive Jackie, am beginning to think I have made a mistake to have booked my flight I should have opted for the road from South to West Africa lol.

The holiday accommodation you slept in looks cozy indeed and the town a beauty.

It sure was… and tomorrow’s drive will be further hehehe 🤭
Why… it all depends on a few things. Some travel by plane, some by boat, some by car… think we do it all hahaha before we reach our destination 😁😉

You will have fun 🤩 too and a lot to share when you start your journey Joe 😎
How far would it be from the south to west?

I haven’t checked our total Km yet… but will count up later. 🤓
The accommodation is great and had everything we needed for 2 nights. Next one will be a hotel for 1 night… until we travel further.

How far would it be from the south to west?

By road, it is 6766km and my flight is 11 hours including a stop over in Gabon.

It is a very long drive so flight is better unless I chose to be adventurous, which will cost more than flying.

That always throws me off when I first get to a country that drives wrong! I know that when I have lived driving that way, I get home and my brain gets confused for a moment. I always worry that I will go to the wrong side and see oncoming traffic! LOL I know, right?

I was surprised the first time I went by Sherwood Forst. Where was Robin Hood anyway? All these stores of 'yore! Anyway, the UK is fun to travel through, always. Well, except when you are in a rush a want to take more time. Isn't the landscape so stunning? I love going by big fields of sheep. BY the way, I never could find the horse you saw! Now, I will have to look again.

So nice that you take us all on the adventure with you. I must admit that you stop at some nice restaurants or at least the food looks delicious. Cubans are one of my favorite sandwiches, especially if they do the bread rights. Your hot chocolate made me want some of my own! Nice hotel that you stayed in. I like when they have a nice sitting area. Just beds are pretty nondescript. But, I have stayed in many of them.

You do a great tour, have wonderful explanations, and keep a nice element of surprise! I hope you get some good rest so that you can feel better when you land in your new home country. Thank you, Jackie! @littlebee4 Always the best!

Yep me too, it messes with my thinking. I have a hard time not reacting to the tragic when hubby drives. I want to break hahaha 🤣 I haven’t driven yet in England but I did in Malta.
Soon we get smaller roads and I give it a go.

The landscape and small towns are stunning. I’m enjoying this trip a lot. England is fun. We are now in places even my British hubby has not been. So all new for both of us.
The sheep are cute, they always make me feel I want to cuddle them. 🥰🐑
The horse is under the sign with the horse… formed by the lights… in the front of the building. Hope you find it 🤞🏻🤓

We found some nice restaurants to eat at, luckily. That happens less in Spain. Somehow here the produce is fresher. So even eating out I am enjoying it. A perfect road trip so far. Even though I don’t feel 100%, but we know it takes time with me. I have time to rest. Tomorrow we have a long drive again and a night in a hotel again. After that we have a stay of 3 nights in a small cottage somewhere pretty… more resting time 😁 but I shouldn’t tell all yet 😉 more roads to travel. And places to go.

Hahaha we all know the stories… so cool we drove last the forest though. It makes you wonder and think of the stories.

It’s late afternoon indeed. 16:27h now, it’s getting dark and we just reached our next stay… location. We will be here 3 nights.

I imagine You are having a Amazing time, seeing things you haven't seen before is like that - the ever Unfolding Mystery...😉

I will check the posts in the morning, I am so worn out today (not sure why 🤔) I am hitting the bed soon! 😴🛌😴🛌😴
I "did" make a discovery today, and it might be the thing to make me "part-wise" change my mind...
I don't know why, but since I have a lot of assistance from the VA in buying a home, I should look around and see what is available. Also worried about the Cats..🐈🐈‍⬛🐈
So I sniffed around...
I found a "Prefab Home", new windows and kitchen - for what I pay here for a closet!
With VA assistance it "could" come out cheaper, including utilities!
Now this is something to think about, that I had not thought about before. And it is 20 miles from this place! 😉
But yeah, this and another similar place and thinking about it has drained me today, somehow..
I mean the whole deal would be about $250.00 a month - to own! Including taxes and insurance.
No down payment, or other changes the VA will cover all that... Amazing what happens in the 11th hour! 😳

But you know what… it gets dark here around 1600h and we are in the countryside most of the time. We don’t need to be out and about in the dark. We explore in the morning and rest in the evening. Would we be in a city, that’s a different story, there is always lights. But the back roads not 😎
I rest a lot… and soon it will be fine. I do love the cold and crisp fresh air. Haven’t had that in Spain.

This guy called me back and we talked. He was very familiar in how to get a person like me a free home in NJ! I should call him tomorrow, I told him this is all moving fast and I need to think about it a day...
He already knows the forms to file, he was halfways into it when I told him let's wait a day... So I may be moving to that, instead of the apartment I am in the waiting list for...

Adventure after adventure makes one to wish that it can do on forever. I call my wife maid Marian at times, as I think that her parents named her after that heroic lady !LOLZ

305 km is a fair distance to travel and when the trip is loaded with sights it turns into a real pleasure.
Out on the road again certainly beats the dreariness of then normal staid 9-5 existence and I call it freedom 😊

It is freedom indeed. We coved about 860km so far since the 5th of January. Driving to the next place. In the morning we drive to location 4. I posted today part 3 😁
We will stay 3 nights again before we travel further. So we have some time to explore. We go higher up north and into mountains 😎 should be cool. Snow is predicted too.

It is that same freedom desire that courses through our veins and 860 km sounds great.
We traveled 1398 km from the province where we used to live down to this province in a day. Not a day exactly as we did the trip in 18 hours and something. There was no time for sightseeing as we had our big 8.5 truck fully loaded following us and we had to get down here before the truck arrived.

I will have a look at part 3 😉

Ah yes, the mountains sound exciting, and you might know that I am a great lover of mountains.
Let's hope that the snow will come, as it always makes for lovely photos, especially on the peaks.

Yep… it is indeed running through our veins.
That sounds hectic. In one go. Even when I drove down from the Netherlands to southern Spain… I did it in t days as it was in a classic mini hahaha 🤣 can’t do long journeys in one go.
Luckily we have time this month. Hubbies work starts the 30th again.

We crossed a lot of them today and the leaks were covered in snow. Made lost of snowy pictures I will soon share.

I have done the return trip a few times now and that doubles the kilometers.
"t" days could mean two, three or ten days, so I will pick two days for your trip from the Netherlands to Southern Spain 🤣 !LOLZ

my mum just left for the UK actually. She's in Oxford. Breathtakingly beautiful. I went up to visit her twice when she lived there some time ago and spent some time in London and Edinburgh. There's still so much I'd love to explore! Hopefully I'll get to go visit her soon!

I've had a few friends go castle hopping all over the country. That must be so incredible. I'm sad I didn't do the tunnel walk under the Edinburg old city, but I chickened out 🤣🤣 definitely next time. Also, I'd love to pop over to Ireland.

urgh.... Brexit.... yeah. Here in Cape Town we have a bunch of separatists who want to cut Cape Town off from the rest of the country. It's really just cutting off our noses to spite our faces, in my opinion. We can't just run away because we think we're better than the rest of the country (which is extremely biased). I'd like to know that I can travel freely through my own beautiful country without needing a flipping passport to go to Durban or Johannesburg

Oh I soooo know. Hubby was a cross border worker in Spain… going into Gibraltar (UK) everyday crossing the border for 15 years. Brexit made it into a nightmare.

It’s a shame some think like that.
One should be able to freely travel in their country. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen at yours.

With the energy crisis here in SA and heaven knows what other things I can moan about, I've considered immigrating but really, Cape Town is such a beautiful place. I can't really think of anywhere else in the world I'd be happy. Don't get me wrong, once the kids are off... In about 10 years.... @zakludick and I will hopefully be backpacking around the world. ❤️ That's the dream! Well the dream is to do it on a cruise liner and luxury trains, but you know... Small steps 🤣🤣❤️❤️
