Hi all πŸ‘‹πŸ»

With this post in our lovely #community this Friday for the #MarketFriday by @dswigle - Denise
I will show you my visit to LEAKEY’S BOOKSHOP in Inverness. πŸ“š

‼️If you want to know more about #MarketFriday’s have a look at the community about it: Market Friday community! run by the lovely @dswigle and her last post: β€œMarket Friday - Silence is Golden” where you find also the rules what to post if you want to join us. Do join in, it is fun 🀩

My 16 photographs are all taken with my #iPhone πŸ€“ on 25 February 2023 πŸ“±last weekend ~ in Inverness UK πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ the additional ones I will state separately.

Let’s talk first a little bit about this BOOKSHOP.
More information you find in the following website:
LEAKEY’S bookshop!
They also have a Facebook page : You find here!

It’s such a cool place. πŸ“š It’s rather famous I would say. It’s SCOTLANDS biggest #secondhand bookshop. Also it’s #location is unique, πŸ€“ ok ok not location but where IN it is located:
The bookshop is in a #CHURCH.
At the time I visited, I will show you later on, there was scaffolding all around it on the outside. So a pretty picture I can’t show you. 🫣
But… for this reason I show you a few screenshots I took of their #socialmedia page, to show you what a stunning place it is without scaffolding. (All credit goes to them for these 2 captures)

The outside of the CHURCH. Source!

How the inside space looked like before the bookshop moved in:

Screenshot Source!

On Google maps we find it’s location at the yellow arrow in this screenshot:

Zooming in closer see the yellow star ⭐️:

The address: Church Street in Inverness

πŸ“šIF YOU ARE IN THIS AREA one day, HAVE A LOOK. IT’S SUCH A COOL PLACE 😎

Let’s have a look inside now πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŠπŸ“šπŸ“š

We see books πŸ“• everywhere…

The space… they kept a lot of the #original #features.

Looking in a few β€œwalking books”… sometimes you do find some hidden treasures in them. πŸ₯° I love that about old books πŸ“š

More books, these ones are about the HIGHLANDS, the area I live in since January.

Looking into the space again. We see how they divided the space. There are 2 floors now.

Peeking in a small corridor. πŸ“šπŸ“•

Looking down from upstairs… πŸ˜ŽπŸ€“πŸ“š

I do like the old features of the church.

They also sell prints here… πŸ€“

Another angle of the bookshop πŸ“š

Walking outside… here you can see the scaffolding all around the outside. It would have been cool to capture this building without it. Maybe next time when I visit again.

One more view…

I love second hand book shops πŸ“šπŸ˜Ž one can find great books.
This time I didn’t find what I was looking for.
But… I did buy this week a second hand book on-line, what arrived yesterday.

The cover…

What I paid for this second hand book πŸ“– it’s a nice price, even with the shipping cost πŸ€“

Inside of this book ~ a random page.

About the author: JOHN SEYMOUR

The back of the book.

And with this QUOTE from the AUTHOR, I say β€œthat’s all for today’s post my friends, join me next time for more #adventures, #stories and #photographs πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘‹πŸ» Even some #artworks once in a while will come by” 🎨
Thank you so much for looking, and reading. And if you liked my post, an upvote or re-blog is always welcome.

I know this bookshop! I love Scottish Railways and I bought an out of print book about the Kyle Line there, simply for some pictures of Stromeferry as it was years ago and the old Engine Shed at Kyle! Sad, I know lol.....Anyway.....moving on.....the smell in there is just history wafting up your nose. Amazing.

Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for another to add to my 'to do' list when Im back in the UK at Christmas.

I know the smell it was amazing. Just how it should be. I wished there were more book stores like this. πŸ“š

What a delightful treasure trove of a wonderful shop that is! I'd happily drive there from here in southern England, don't care if it's 700 miles away or something, it looks amazing and must be visited!

I will be back to view the photos, Jackie, the internet is not that strong here I see, so the photos are taking forever to load am almost dozing off waiting for them to load, and dozing off is not what I want to do now. πŸ˜ƒ

Yep, no problems… I don’t think it is only your internet. I see weird things happening.
Can’t open posts in LF only in ecency. And I see some peoples posts are being posted about 6 times during today… and some comments are coming through too many times double.
Hope it will be resolved soon.
Have a nice evening Joe πŸ‘‹πŸ»πŸ˜Š

Good morning Jackie, have a great Saturday.

It was so biggg and they had so many books. I could spend hours looking through them.
Yep, let’s hope next time the scaffolding is gone. So I can see the lovely architecture of the building.

Good morning Joe πŸ‘‹πŸ»β˜€οΈ thank you so much!
Enjoy yours.

I love it!!! I really do! When I see unusual spaces being used in different ways like this, it always catches my eye. And my fancy! I have to admit, I have always wanted to renovate a church, to live in as my house. My Catholic upbringing forbade me, but, it couldn't stop my thoughts. 🀣

I love the creative way they used as much as they could without changing how it looked, adding so much to the overall atmosphere. I love the features and the basic architecture. I can only imagine how it feels to walk through those doors every time I wanted a book. Lucky you! Are they repointing the brick outside? What a great post! Thank you!

I think it is important that you know how much I appreciate the time and effort put into posts. Thank you for your participating in #MarketFriday! I enjoy learning about your world and how it is to live in it. I find it interesting to compare standards, but, more than standards, by how we find the quality of our life with different indicators that the world does. It is not always about the wealth in money but includes many other things including being as healthy as possible, and being educated, but, not necessarily in school. I feel like a person is educated if they acquire knowledge and use it for the better good and happiness of the society they are living in. It is with great pleasure that I read through this and all of the posts, with these thoughts in mind.

I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to get to know you and your piece of the world just a little bit better. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, I especially love the small things in life and make a point to give them notice. Life has been interesting for me this week, and I hope your week has found you happy and healthy, as we all look to prosper in our way of life.

I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Please take the time to read a couple #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment behind. It is important to interact within the community, allowing for others to bond with each other. The fun is in getting to know people and making a positive contribution to community life. I am pretty sure that is why I joined Hive. All this fun and money too. What if not to love?

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

Yep, mine too. I love these transformations hahaha and I closely observe them (the engineer in me speaking here hehehe πŸ€“)
That’s so interesting, it would be cool to transform a church into a house. I have seen it several times. They are just amazing! The spaces one can create inside.
I would like an old warehouse. But no walls… just for the toilet. Everything else… all open. And every where art hahaha 🀣

I will for sure go back next time I visit Inverness again (what is basically every time we need a big shop, post office or other shops. It’s just over 1 hour drive. The closest city.) so it will be soon.
Will have a look, as we didn’t have much time last weekend.
Love places like that. I could be there for hours hehehe 🀭

It did look like that. They were already on the bottom level. So maybe next weekend the scaffolding is gone. We will see… 😎😊
Thanks Denise for coming along into this cute bookshop πŸ“š happy I could share it with you.
Have an awesome weekend.

Oh. Yes! The warehouse transformation was huge when I lived in the Northeast. So many vacant spaces at one time!

I have an open concept house in the DC area. This is my fourth one. I'm not sure I would do it again. There is less room for wall hangings, although sculptures and other pieces work fine. I have so much less wall space! You can have movable or floating walls... I need few more walls.

God do I love bookstores and books! Going into book stores was always 'dangerous' for me, as I usually couldn't leave without buying something! I collected books for many years, and had a huge, diverse library for many years. Moving around as often as I did made it challenging, so my books remained in a climate-controlled storage unit in Austin, Texas for years. Until last year that is, when I finally let them all go...not easy, but necessary. I had some books that were not replaceable.

This is a truly glorious bookstore, that I'm sure I'd adore if I were there! I love all the wonderful nooks and crannies! I could get lost in there for...a long time! Thank you so muy for sharing this excellent find Jackie! I hope that you enjoy your future visits there!

I adore that book that you got online! Self-sufficiency, self-reliance, self-dependence, self-determination, self-ownership, are all essential for a truly fulfilling human life! I hope that you thoroughly enjoy it dear! 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™

Yep, me too. I can get lost in there for hours. That day we didn’t have much time, as we needed to do a lot. Being in the city, far away… we have lots of tasks that day.
Next time, I will visit longer for sure… and truly see what they have.
The intricate details… the old features of the church. It was… exciting to say the least.

Wow 😯 that sounds like a lot of books Tydyn. That’s a shame… but I so understand. Our belongings get less and less every move.
I can imagine that with such a collection and unreplaceable books. It wasn’t easy.

Thank you so much 😎 it’s another nice addition to my self sufficient book collection and garden collection. As you know, I would like to have our own garden and everything that comes along with it.
Self sufficiency is the way forward for sure. I surely will my friend.
Thanks for your visit. Have an awesome Sunday πŸ‘‹πŸ»πŸ˜Š

I very much understand, both the getting lost there for hours and not having time because of lots of tasks to do in town. I hope that you get many hours to explore, sit, and read there! Yes, the architecture is gorgeous!

Yes, I had over 1,000 books, and that was after trimming it down! Yes, it took a lot to be able to let go. Same here, every time I've moved I've let go of more and more stuff. I realized over time that I don't actually need that much.

Absolutely! I love the sound of that! Yes, I hope you're able to have a beautiful garden soon! Yes, it certainly is! We can't rely on anyone else to do stuff for us!

Certainly! It's always my deep honor, pleasure, and privilege to pay you a visit on your wonderful posts! Thank you! I hope your Sunday has been sweet and nourishing! 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™

Let’s hope it will be next time when I visit that city 😎 exploring all the books they have.

You are right, we don’t need much actually when you think about it.
The most things I possess are my art materials for creating art. The rest… is getting less and less.
Will thin it out in our next move again hehehe 🀭 as all is unpacked this time (except my art studio) so it’s easy for me to see… what we don’t need.

Yay to a wonderful garden that will keep me wonderfully busy hehehe 🀭
We need to take care of ourselves. The world is changing to fast right now.
Have a great Monday when you wake up my friend πŸ‘‹πŸ»β˜€οΈ

hehehe i also love old book shops - and this one with the blue detailing on the second floor - its so charming and quaint!!!

I love the smell of books - and I really love when i can find a book to purchase that has an inscription to someone! hehehe it makes me wonder what kind of life the book had before coming to me to continue its journey! hahaaha

I hope they never stop having old book shops like this! The world would truly miss out!!!

Yes’m the smell… of old books. It just filled the entire space.

And the inscriptions or little letters one can find inside. The occasional dried flower too… yep, love it all.
I do imagine too where the book has been and if there would be a story. πŸ€“

Nope, let’s hope the world will always have second hand book shops. If not… we will set one up hahaha 🀣

Even having a Dutch passport or being married to my British hubby doesn’t count at the moment.
Sigh

So this bookshop is located in an old church on Church Street...I like thatπŸ˜€πŸ‘!

Your photos are so clear and detailed that right from the first photo it felt like I could even smell the wood...and then the smell of the old books. I love that smell by the way.

Yes, that's a great idea to look at "walking books". That's a great idea and it makes a lot of sense.

Thank you for sharing your visit to Leakey's Bookshop, @littlebee4πŸ‘!

Enjoy your evening!

Thank you so much, that’s nice to hear. These are all taken with my iPhone.
I also love the smell of books and wood…

That way, I find some nice walking routes up here.
Glad you came along and saw what I saw.
Have a beautiful day @jacoalberts
