Highlights of the stunning CITY BORDEAUX ~ FRANCE 🇫🇷 in the rain ~ today we discover the Cathédrale Saint André and Tour Pey Berland
Let me show you some highlights of BORDEAUX CITY in FRANCE 🇫🇷 on a warm rainy evening last week. We only had the evening to explore, so what is a must see if you only have a few hours. We choose to see The Cathédrale Saint André and Tour Pey Berland they are right next to each other. It was already past 20:00h when we walked by them so they were closed to visit inside.
As you could read in our journey to France last Saturday, we went out for some food and took in some sights.
More impressions of this evening after our delicious dinner I will show you next Wednesday. It will be amazing as we walk along the river at night. With all its lights… don’t miss it.
With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk #challenge. That is hosted by @tattoodjay every week on Wednesday.
‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in!… the community is run by @tattoodjay
Look at his last #Wednesdaywalk post. It will tell you also the rules of joining in at the Wednesday walk posts 😁 come join us!
Today’s photographic selection will be of 21 PHOTOGRAPHS
Date : 23 April 2025
The Photographs in this post are taken with my iPhone in the evening.
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are experiencing my adventures on this walk to #discover everything what I saw, like the little #details seen through my eyes.
Location of the Cathedral and the tower / Cathédrale Saint André and Tour Pey Berland, that is right next to it in Bordeaux, we find on the following screenshots of Google Maps by the red pin 📌 :
Zooming out we see the location from Bordeaux in western France next to the Atlantic coast:
Shall we have a walk around now? Did you bring your umbrella ☔️
No, don’t worry… it is warm and the rain is actually rather refreshing. Something I strangely missed the last half year haha. Let’s walk through the rain, no worries there now and check out these 2 beautiful spots / highlights you should not miss when visiting Bordeaux. They are on the edge of the old city’s centre.
We arrive first at the tower: Tour Pey Berland. A large tower that is hovering over the streets of the city centre. I can imagine the views must be incredible all the way up there. One can see over the roof tops into the distance.
As the floor is covered with smooth dark blue tiles and the water from the rain is still laying on top of them, we can see some beautiful reflections of the tower in it. It makes the view special.
On top of the tower we see the golden statue of the Notre Dame d’Aquitaine. ( as we can read on the following information sign below) The tower is actually the bell tower of the cathedral and dates back from 1440. Imagine that… so old.
For more information have a read here on the information sign in French, English and Spanish.
Let’s walk over to the cathedral itself now.
More information about the cathedral in several languages you can find on their own website here: Cathédrale Saint-André de Bordeaux and on the next Wikipedia page you find the following information: Bordeaux cathedral Wikipedia
Check it out… as it is old, really old… from like 814 old. Stunning in every way.
Let’s continue our walk now.
The next view shows us the light that shines through the thick clouds, and that it is surrounding the cathedral beautifully. It makes for some nice captures.
Of course we also look at its reflections on the ground as the tiles continue here too.
We wander further and reach the front of the church.
Stepping a little bit further back we can take in the beautiful architecture of it. Just look at all the details.
I like that there are benches where people can sit and take in the views and even just people watch. (I like to do that… just sit somewhere and see the world go by) It will be busier during the day and without the rain. Luckily not now Haha
The entrance is so large.
The beautiful Rose Window above the entrance.
The doors itself.
I walk even further back now. It is hard with the tall buildings right next to me.
👇🏻 My favourite photo of today 😊 I captured it when a tram just passed by.
As we wander over towards the little square under the trees we find this little statue / maquette. It displays the buildings / area that surrounds the cathedral.
We walk around it. Rather funny they had to round off the points of the towers. I can understand why though.
Walking a bit further to see more details.
Beautifully created. One can see how large the cathedral actually is.
I like the added trees to it too. Do you see them?
Thanks for joining me on this rainy evening to see some highlights of Bordeaux city. Next week again? You won’t regret it 😉

Even the rain cobsoiro to generate the ideal atmosphere of nostalgia. What a beautiful discovery you've made. The cathedral building is gorgeous. Thank you for bringing it.

Gorgeous cathedral 😍 love the blue tiles in the rain what a beautiful effect. They famously wet the streets in Miami when they were filming Miami Vice in the 80s to get the look they wanted haha
Very beautiful photography, the appearance of the building is very interesting, the design is very beautiful, amazing ❤️🙏
