Hi all πŸ‘‹πŸ»

Today I want to share with you my visit last weekend to this awesome castle. Its name is ”DUNROBIN CASTLE” and it is located in Golspie what is on the east coast of the North part of the Scottish HIGHLANDS 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

My 30 photographs today are all taken with my #iPhone πŸ€“ on 5 March 2023 πŸ“±last weekend ~ in Golspie UK πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ what is in the Highlands of Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 where I live since the end of January 😊

On Google maps we find it’s location at the yellow star ⭐️ in this screenshot:

As I was reading about the castle I noticed the β€œLord” of the castle had written a note on the first page of this website… have a look 😎

We also find there some more information about the castle, a small section of it I wanted to share here:

Dunrobin Castle is the most northerly of Scotland's great houses and the largest in the Northern Highlands with 189 rooms. Dunrobin Castle is also one of Britain's oldest continuously inhabited houses dating back to the early 1300s, home to the Earls and later, the Dukes of Sutherland.

”Dunrobin Castle is open annually from 1st April to 31st October.”

Let’s have a walk around now 😎 are you coming along?

After parking the car we step out and see some giant trees around us. 🌲🌳

We find this information board and have a read πŸ€“

We make our way towards the castle and see it, following the tree lane, popping up in the distance.

The closer we get the larger it becomes. Wow 🀩 🏰

If you look very closely behind it, you see the horizon and the sea 🌊

Almost at the castle there is a road to the right… this is actually the road to drive out of. The exit for later.

Approaching the castle… we noticed it is closed for the winter ❄️ season, but it’s gardens are open for the SNOWDROP FESTIVAL πŸ₯°
Oh YES! I want to check out the SNOWDROPS!
So we walk to the right into the forest first as I saw some snowdrops high up calling me. πŸ˜‚

πŸ₯° LOOK HOW MANY SNOWDROPS I FOUND!

I capture them with the castle as the backdrop… πŸ“Έ

Snowdrops are the first signs of #SPRING.
Can’t wait to discover many more spring flowers 🌸 in the next weeks.

We decide to walk out of the forest and down the hill now. Towards the sea 🌊 first to check it out.
Walking on the road I look up.

Suddenly I find a #mushroom πŸ„ yay… haven’t seen them for a long while.

Look @mipiano I found one in the winter ❄️
Standing tall… πŸ₯°

So happy with this find 😊 this one has such a beautiful orange colour.

But let’s walk further 😊 hehehe 🀭 much more to discover…

After a little while we reach the sea. This castle is right on it and looks over it 🌊

It is so serene and calm this day… even though cold and luckily the snow hasn’t fallen yet. It would come the next day, Monday β˜ƒοΈβ˜ƒοΈβ˜ƒοΈ

Standing on the edge, I look back and see the castle in all its BEAUTY πŸ₯° WOW, what a sight! 🏰

I walk a bit further to cut out the machinery on the left for maintenance. πŸ˜‰

I walk a bit further and zoom more in.

As I walk I see a gate at the right side of the garden wall. It’s closed. But… I take this shot through it 😎

When we walked over the road towards the sea, we saw a side entrance and it was open. So we walk back to it and enter the castle GARDENS.
We see:

As we walk through the garden, I see millions of snowdrops πŸ₯°β˜ƒοΈ

Look they are everywhere…

The grass is covered by them.

We walked further in the gardens, I must admit… I took most of the photos on my big camera πŸ“Έ I show you another time. πŸ€“

As we walk back to the exit out of the garden… I spot in a far corner these BEEHIVES 🐝🐝🐝🐝

I sure will be back in the spring… when the trees 🌳 have leaves and the flowers 🌸 popped up.

We walk back to the parking lot now… and I take a few more photos.

I can only imagine how beautiful this garden must be in the spring and summer…

my Market Friday will be about a castle in Scotland today too! hahahahah but mine looks a little bit different than your grand castle here! wowwwwwwwww its so beautiful!!!! now I knwo I have a new place to visit when I head back there! hahahaha that is really impressive!! like a fairy tale castle hehehe

This was just so special. I never seen anything like this in real life. This place is just awesome.
From April onwards they open the doors to see inside. Will be great to check it out.

I never expected mushrooms in the winter here, as I went through some forests and haven’t seen them yet.

Too bad it wasn’t open yet.
We didn’t know they were already blooming and there was a snowdrop festival. We actually had set out to go to some waterfalls and a long walk. When I saw on the map this castle was close by we decided to check it out. So happy we did.

What a great place

I really like the way the castle is shaped. It reminds me a bit of the Disney castle. The gardens are nice enough to walk around all day.

Yes, this place was almost like the castle of Disney. It was amazing. Never seen a castle like this.
I just had to share. It was so beautiful. The gardens were larger than I showed in the photos. One could indeed walk all day there.

You have the same kind of weather there as here. There's even snowdrops and a hawk out. Though today it snowed again here, maybe there will be some winter mushrooms growing too. The only castle we have nearby is the mars cheese castle on the wisconsin border.

It does look like that.
Here it is snowing since Monday, the day after I visited this castle. In one moment snow, the other hail and full sun is coming by every minute.
I know… epic just like in yours. Hehehe 🀭
That’s a shame there are not more castles in your area.
Here too many to visit.

Its certainly a fantastic castle. I come from that area of Scotland (a little further to the north) and have visited it quite a few times. The gardens were modelled after those at Versailles ! And some of the Dukes are infamous - particularly one who was responsible for a number of highland clearances where they evicted people from the land and forced them to emigrate to North America, so that they could use the land for sheep rearing which made more money. That happened quite a long time ago now, and there is still bad feeling about it to this day. Although it shouldn't detract from the castle itself which is an architectural beauty !

Wow! What an awesome post! This is such a beautiful place! And this castle is huge! Well, I saw it mentioned in the clip you shared, but still...it's massive!

I love your shots of the snowdrops using the castle as the backdrop.

And yes, I saw the hawk! It's just awesome!!

The rates seem reasonable too. I saw on the website that you can do self-guided tours when you visit the castle and see various parts of the castle and gardens, etc.

So no need to rush.

It was such a surprise to see the snowdrops, we didn’t know they were out already. 😎

The self guided tour would be ideal. You can stroll around at your own past. And enjoy the views.
It wasn’t to badly priced indeed. We will see if we manage to head back there again.
It was almost 2 hours drive to there. (Trying to see a lot in the time left)

It looks like we are moving out of the UK. I will be in May and hubby mid July, due to work commitments.
I’m in the process of planning and organising a country move again. So it has been truly busy the last week hehehe 🀭
Looks like it’s more complicated too. But we both don’t need visas or anything like that. So we won’t be having to worry we need to move again.

But as I have said before... Maybe when you look back at this one day, you might see that everything worked out for the better!

But like you said… maybe we will do just that. The next country is likewise beautiful and has raw nature. Just a little bit less woods. Same climate though. πŸ˜‰

Busy times… it will be for a little while. But I so hope, soon I can rest a bit.
The not needing visas for either of us. Does help in every way. It takes out the whole worry that we had here.

Yep… end of April for pick up stuff and early May the move. 😊 so that’s soon.
There is some of that too, as I’m exhausted. But we need to keep going and think positive. I know what we would like, so I’m working hard for it.

That's great. If I can monitor my progress, it becomes easier to stay focused and motivated...but that's just me...

Sorry that your hubby has to wait until mid-July... I also had to come alone first when we came down to the coast. My wife and our daughters only followed 3 months later due to work for my wife and the girls had to complete their school year.

It's not always nice, but you've got to do what you've got to do and you can make it work.

So yes, from experience I can say I agree with you...You'll manage and all will be fine in the end. Just hang in there and go through all the actionsπŸ˜‰πŸ‘.

I'm glad you enjoyed your weekend having your friends over! I also enjoyed the weekend.

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. It will all be for the better.

I will… now time to pack and wrap… a lot hahaha and Saturday we drive down to the in-laws (12 hours) to help tile the livingroom for 2 full weeks. Something I promised, so I go and help. It is the wrong timing. But… I have 1,5 week after I return to pack up the rest. I should manage.

The weekend was lovely and a welcome break. Other than a dinner in the evening when we arrived in southern England in December, we had not seen them during covid. So it was nice to have them around for a few days.

Good to hear you enjoyed your weekend too 😊 and sometimes… that’s just fine. Taking it easy, so one can recharge.

I saw your post and I did read it. But I could not help having a giggle at myself too...

I have a weak internet signal again and when I started reading your post, the images didn't load. So I started having a serious conversation with the internet while running up and down through the whole house with the router in search of a better signal to get your images to load...πŸ˜….

About 30 minutes later, after all the images loaded and I have finished reading your post, I noticed in the comments section that other people also had problems with the images not loading.

So...yes, my internet signal wasn't very strong, but apparently, seeing that other people had a similar problem, that wasn't the only problem...lol!

Anyhow, I managed to see (and enjoy) all your photos. And I really had some physical activity joining you on your walkπŸ˜‚πŸ™πŸ‘! I couldn't help laughing about it...!

Yep, it's bamboo. It's one of the temperate species from either Japan or China. In my twenties, I intended to be a bamboo botanist. I know the cold-hardy bamboos quite well indeed. I love them all! Here in Hawai'i, we mostly have the giant tropical clumping bamboos (while most temperate species are runners), but I do have a few temperate runners.

Here it’s funny… the sheep live free without fences. And sometimes they are inside a fence for better grass. But at the end of the day I see the farmer just open the gate. And the sheep know exactly where to go. It’s funny to see. It doesn’t go quickly but they go where they are needed.

I never saw it before, until I moved here. It’s beautiful to see.
Everywhere we walk or drive one sees sheep. Or goats. You have to keep an eye out for them driving around. They can be in the middle of the road or suddenly cross.

Yep I understand. Here they roam where ever they want and there is food.

Hello! Hello! 189 rooms? I don't think even YOU have enough energy to clean all of that! Can you imagine? Here, you can sleep in this room, just wait a moment while I get you a GPS! Oh. Lord. The castle is so incredible looking, so very formal, and drop-dead gorgeous! Outstanding find! Well, hard to miss, isn't it? I can hardly wait for you to get inside that bad boy!

The entire estate (or property, not sure how to address it!) Anyway, the entire piece of land that it is on is striking, the pictures make me breathless, just looking at them. The gardens are an ultimate treat, the snowdrops everywhere are stunning! Absolutely stunning. I love snowdrops AND bluebells!

What a treat, Jackie. Right on the beach! Wow! No were are talking! The stonework is lovely and I can't thank you enough for giving me all the views that were possible! You make a wonderful tour guide! Thank you! Thank you!
