โ€BIG BURN Waterfalls and Gorge in Golspieโ€ - SCOTLAND ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ ~ Wednesday Walk - videos included

avatar

Hi all ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป

Today I want to share with you all a walk around the BIG BURN Gorge to show you some #WATERFALLS, located in a forest in #GOLSPIE what is in the #HIGHLANDS of #SCOTLAND ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ / UK ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง
I include also 2 short VIDEOS I made from the waterfalls and their area. ๐ŸŽฅ
This is part of our #explorations out, to #discover new areas, since we live in the highlands since end of January this year. ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿ˜” Sorry for not being around a lot lately, I do check in and support you allโ€ฆ but I am not active as much as I would like, I have been occupied with some lifeโ€™s changes we have to deal with very shortly. I will update you on this as soon as the plans become set in stone ๐Ÿค“ so watch this spaceโ€ฆ

With this post Iโ€™m joining in at the Wednesday Walk challenge and Make me Smile challenge. That are hosted by @tattoodjay and @elizacheng every week on Wednesday.

โ€ผ๏ธHave a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in! if you want to joinโ€ฆ the community is run by @tattoodjay.
Look at his last post : โ€œWednesday Walk A recent walk in Hazelwood Park.โ€œ
It will tell you also the rules of joining in at the Wednesday walk posts ๐Ÿ˜

Todayโ€™s selection will be of 31 photographs and 2 videos.
Date: 5 March 2023.
The Photographs and videos in this post are all taken with my iPhone ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿค“
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are walking along with me on this #walk over the forest Path in: #GOLSPIE, to ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป #discover everything what I saw, like the little #details seen through my eyes. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Screenshot of the Location on Google maps:

For the observant viewerโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜‰ yes, this is almost next to Dunrobin Castle and gardens I showed you last Friday. We did this walk after we visited the castle.
If you missed it. You can find this post here: ๐Ÿฐ โ€DUNROBIN CASTLE and GARDENS, GOLSPIE - SCOTLAND ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟโ€ ~ Market Friday

Letโ€™s start our WALK:
Are you coming along? ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜Š

After parking the car we see next to it a few signs.
The first one / the thumbnail.
And the next one describes the wildlife that can be found here.

There are a few routes one can take, we decide to go to the waterfalls and follow this sign.

We enter the wooded area and see we are high up. The top of the gorge. We have to walk slowly down of course following the path. ๐Ÿค“

The path is ok, even after it had rained.

Hhmmm two directions. Straight of left?

We choose left as I think it doesnโ€™t matter, we will get somewhere in the end ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Walking further we see woods, still the fallen leaves of autumn ๐Ÿ‚ and a stream.

We follow along.

Many trees came down. I can imagine the path isnโ€™t that occupied in the winter months so they wonโ€™t clear it yet.

Wow look at this treeโ€ฆ and all the shoots out of the bottom of it. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

This cute fern along the tree bark caught my eye. The moss is beautiful too.

We finally reach the next signs. Again cross roads.

One path goes via the view point bridge and the other one is the longer one (I remember from the map) to the falls. Where you can go further and later back via the view point.

We choose the longer path ๐Ÿ˜Ž

And I am glad we did. As we see some smaller waterfalls along the way.

The first oneโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜Š

Beautiful hidden behind the vegetation.

Suddenly we come across a blockage. This large tree is fallen over the path.

Closer look at it. I think it is secure enough to walk under it and continue the path.

Watch your head ๐Ÿ˜Ž and letโ€™s continue our walkโ€ฆ

We arrive at the next waterfallโ€ฆ it is a soft trickleโ€ฆ not a full stream that comes down.

I decide to make a videoโ€ฆ just for the sound.
So turn up the volume and listenโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜‰

Did you like the sound? I doโ€ฆ ๐Ÿฅฐ

Letโ€™s go furtherโ€ฆ
Now we reach a wooden board walk that takes us along the GORGEโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜Ž
Crossing wooden bridges, there were 6 in total.

Here you see the path on the right and the river next to it. This is looking back when we almost reached the waterfall and end of the path.

After a while we reached the largest waterfallโ€ฆ there is a viewing platform over the water. We stand on and see the waterfall up close. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ok now I thought I made a video of the other one.
Letโ€™s make another one from the big waterfall and itโ€™s surrounding looking back over the river tooโ€ฆ

Enjoy:

So beautifulโ€ฆ we are surrounded by nature ๐Ÿ˜Š and nobody around in the winter.
Best way to spend the day donโ€™t you think?

View walking back.

Walking back a little bit where we came fromโ€ฆ we came from the left over the bridge, but now we go rightโ€ฆ

Remember the view point from the other directionโ€ฆ I think we are heading that way.

The little sign shows the directionsโ€ฆ I like this iron sign. Very old school ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Oh, did I tell you beforeโ€ฆ we were going down the gorge. Yepโ€ฆ I did hahaha ๐Ÿคฃ so nowโ€ฆ we have to climb all the way up again.
This time we have steps. What makes it a bit easier.
Half wayโ€ฆ we look back ๐Ÿค“

Us catching our breath here. Hehehe ๐Ÿคญ
Well done usโ€ฆ letโ€™s climb further up.

We cross some more streams too.

With this little bridge.

And here I have to tell you. The view point was boarded up and the vegetation was too thick to see the waterfall from the top.
So I didnโ€™t take a photo and hope you donโ€™t mind.
As I know the views from the bottom where more interesting anyway ๐Ÿ˜‰

Walking back along the pathโ€ฆ through the #forest.

I find this time next to the path another iron signโ€ฆ
Funny thing is. The bend direction is exactly how the path goesโ€ฆ

Seeโ€ฆ

This is the way we went to left. Now we came from the right.

At the end of the path, almost back at the parking areaโ€ฆ I notice this little signโ€ฆ interesting ๐Ÿค”

And here I say โ€œthatโ€™s all for todayโ€™s post my friends we are back at the car and say goodbye, join me next time for more #adventures, #stories and #photographs ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป Even some #artworks once in a while will come byโ€ ๐ŸŽจ
Thank you so much for looking, and reading.

Is there anything as beautiful as a forest where you can take the adventure in many different ways? I honestly wanted to go left too! I didn't think it would matter and it looked like either way would give you something special.

The winding path, the trees, trickles of water, and those cool metal signs! This a road less traveled, in my opinion. I am always bending under trees in the paths. Otherwise, I would never get to see much. I must say,, even though it seems less traveled, the paths are well-defined. I might be wrong about it is less traveled.

Did you see anyone while you were walking?

The little trickles of water are just as interesting as the bigger, more defined ones. I was trying to figure out what kind of bulbs were trying to come up, toward the end of the post. I was also trying to see if they had bluebells near the riverbeds. They should be coming along soonish!

A lovely walk - thank you for taking me along with you!

Have a great rest of your week! Hive on!

I knowโ€ฆ whatever route you may chose they are all exciting and wonderfulโ€ฆ so many adventures. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think it is too, a route less traveled. As the larking was so small, out in the middle of nowhere.
We havenโ€™t seen anybody else there.
The paths were not in a great state. Luckily they did fix parts of the wooden walk way.

I couldnโ€™t identify the bulbs either. They had been covered by snow not that long agoโ€ฆ so the leaves and everything else looked a bit squished.
There was nothing flowering yet. Just the snow drops we saw at the castle. Those were the first signs. I had seen.

Happy you came along Denise ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜Š
Thank you so much, happy to share. Will catch up soon. Iโ€™m so busy this week. Especially as hubby is away for work.

I did look aroundโ€ฆ but havenโ€™t seen any. I only saw one white fungi up the tree almost fully wrapping itself around the little one.
If you look closely to the photo with the fern on the tree side, in the far back left. Itโ€™s thereโ€ฆ on the darker small tree ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜Ž

Aha there is a spring mushroom hiding there. Looks like dryad's saddle, its a pretty good edible if you get it when its still small and not spongy yet. It hasa sort of watermelon taste to it. They are good tempura style.

Couldnโ€™t tell what it was. I was looking for a way down. But it was steep and very muddy there.

Nice post. I have only done that walk once, in the early 80s when I was on a school trip in primary school ! I quite enjoyed it, and have driven past many times since, and have always thought I need to drop back in to do it - these pics have spurred me on, so maybe one day soon !!!

This looks cool, like there's an air of mystery before you get to your destination. :D thank you for taking us on another adventure. I sure enjoyed this one! :) An advance happy weekend...

Yesโ€ฆ imagine this. The UK home office refused my residency ๐Ÿ˜ณ being married to a Brit doesnโ€™t do anything anymore as a EU person. Them leaving the EU is the worst thing everโ€ฆ
Even when we had help from them last year with what to do, what to fill in and when to apply. They refused me on a sentence they filled in and say now Iโ€™m past the deadline. So I have to leaveโ€ฆ in May
sigh

I will enjoy every little bit of time I have left. And more adventures coming right up. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Thanks, you too!

Ahhh I'm so sorry. The residency rules are a disgrace when you're married to a Brit, as well as being ridiculously expensive for the permission to stay visa etc. I know someone else on Hive who had the same issues. I completely agree about leaving the EU, absolute shame.

I'm so sorry. Hope everything will eventually work out for you both :-)

Thanks a lot @nathen007 ๐Ÿ˜Š we never expected to be refused. I think they are refusing a lot of people at the moment who normally would have been approved.
We are thinking now. Their lossโ€ฆ and move on.
I know dandays hadโ€ฆ same as us.
Just to crazy for words actually.

Thank you kindly, letโ€™s hope. Planning the move as we speak, so lots to do and arrange.

Yes, it was Dandays. I kind of understand why it's so tough, to stop huge influxes of extended families and sham marriages from certain Asian countries but it's so unfair on legitimate people.
We just got my wife a 10 years visitors visa and even though she's had a flawless visiting history over the past 9 years on 1 and 2 year visas, it still felt as if we were being interrogated by the secret service, and it still cost almost ยฃ1000 which had she not been approved, wouldn't have been returned. It's all so wrong.

Anyways...

Good luck with the new move :-)

Yes I know the reasons too. They are just refusing also the legitimate ones now, donโ€™t think they even look properly as they have such a large back log.
Wow, over such a long time and still difficulties. I can imagine the frustration. Good to hear you got a 10 year visitor visa now. That will help for sure.

Thank you so much ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜Š I keep you posted.
