That's a cool flashy feathery crest on top of their heads. Apparently, there used to be wild quails around here but their population declined.

There are a lot of these guys around here. It's not uncommon to see 20 or 30 of them together foraging. And if you get too close they all fly off at once. Kind of cool to watch. :)
I still can't get over the little ones, and their pointy topknot on their head beginning to grow. Nature is far out.
