You're right. They look similar. The Hoh rain forest has that old growth forest look. All that winter rain really soaks those trees. I read that because there's so much rain, it washes away the nutrients, so the trees have to spread out their roots on the poor soil to be able to survive. This is why fungi, moss, and lichen are important to them.

Interesting. I didn't think of a rain forest floor as lacking in nutrients but that makes sense.
I thought the same because they look so lush, but as it turns out, all that wholesome rain washes away nutrients in a process called "leaching."
