Where the Crows Play (Windy Audio)

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Do animals engage in play? I think that most of us would answer yes. Dogs, cats, monkeys, and other animals engage in behaviour that we regard as play. I know we must be mindful not to ascribe human characteristics to non-human animals, but I just don't know what else to call what these crows are doing up there. During windstorms, I often see birds playing in the gusts of wind. The seagulls soar in wide arcs and swoop artfully across the beach. Crows are more rough and tumble. They like to stay around swaying treetops and ride the turbulent currents with excellent piloting skill, as the video showed.

Researchers say that female chimps like to play with dolls, so play behaviour is not unique to human. Those crows looked like they were having a great time.
