Respect the hustle!?
This is from when I spent a few weeks in jail... But wait, I paid for it all...!!
What the hell happened those days in late 2022? Well, more or less everything, in a short timespan, including me leaving it all behind...
So, what is the hustle about, paying to stay in jail???
"My" tiny kitchen
This all starts with me going back to Europe after everything fell apart in 2020. I walked away from 3 small companies, half a house, some shitty pension, essentially everything I had built the past 6 years or so.
What else to do, when your business partners do not grasp how serious the whole world shutting down is, and I'm stuck on the other end of the globe?
Starting up once over?
Finally it was time to return, and wow had everything changed... For the worse... Even renting a car was a nightmare, I had to push a tiny, family run company that I knew well around a bit even to get it done!
And this is where jail comes in... Driving South I had to find somewhere to stay, somewhere that I would not burn the same for a night that I'd spend for food in a month elsewhere in the wide world...
So this strange option came up, a converted, old county jail! And even better, they replied to me while I was on the road!
The hustle starts
What is a hustle, one that can be respected?
In retrospect I realize that I've got quite some experience in this, especially for someone coming from one of these countries with a (treacherous) welfare system. In the end it used to be a natural thing way back, to help people out, be polite, and make an impression when the time calls for that.
The former inmate running the joint :-)
The next day I got the whole story, a local, very well respected & kinda loaded entrepreneur had bought it, and converted it into a hotel mere months before I arrived.
And that was not all... The guy running it on a daily basis was a former inmate!
He had simply contacted the owner when the news was released, and perhaps with very little hope sort of applied for any position or opportunity...
And that paid out for real, he was hired full time for running the place! At the time he was still wearing a tracker on his leg hehe, great hustle for sure to go from inmate to boss 😅
I did my own hustle, doing the coffee in the mornings, slowly turning the kitchen into my own haha, helping with guest when he was away, its natural to help out great people of course.
So soon I was paying half, had many good and interesting conversations with the owner of it all, and within a few days I saw new opportunities, in a city I've only visited a couple of times previously.
When a hustle is not welcome any longer...
No, this is not about these people nor me, I would have been very welcome! In fact I got very close to starting a new company, and if I did I already had a running start, with lots of very eager supporters.
In short I would have been on the inside of this tiny city when it comes to business networking, entrepreneurship and marketing tech, these types of things that I've done for too long.
So why is a hustle not welcome? Well after another week I found out that all the energetic, entrepreneurial people that I met ultimately depended on the state... All of the had some funding, and their suggestions to me were all about getting in on the same game!
Which is something I'd done before, with quite a bit of success, but this time...?? No way, not after all I had seen in 2020...
So in the end I left it all behind, including these pictures that I took & planned to send them to use on social media.
Now, I do know that I will be welcome again, but I simply cannot live in a failing state where there is no flexibility left any longer, where the costs are astronomical, where almost all entrepreneurial activity is geared towards getting paid from the state, large corporations, or a combination.
I know from experience that that hustle is too dangerous...
Now of course I am here on Hive, doing some content using Bitcoin Lightning, working towards getting income using Monero, so the hustle will be for me only!
And to end this I'd like to say that I see so many great people here, working to get content out there, maybe even the word hustle can come across as disrespectful, but I can assure you that its the opposite.
We're going into a period of history where we have to respect the hustle, and hopefully work together with that understanding...
Good luck!
that's a wild story mate.
Haha, yeah, actually its way wilder if I include all the details & local characters!
I've got things lying around that I wrote when I was there, I do intend to turn that into a book sometime soon hopefully...
I guess I've lived this way for a long time too, so bring on the chaos haha!
