Random Athens #Monomad challenge
I really like so many random things on the streets of Athens!
An old Ford 12M, I sometimes wanted to buy one of these in the nineties
As I used to do a lot through the years I walked around more or less at random, making my way from the ferry & harbour up into the city. It was hot of course, so I stopped by at a hotel, borrowed the wifi & helped them unscrew the chuck on a drill using my camera strap 😀
The guy at the reception wanted to get into photography, so I pointed him towards buying something like an old Fujifilm camera rather than putting too much into new gear.
Someone enjoys painting crocodiles!
The area around the harbour is a bit rough, with garbage and random stuff around, but personally I like that much more than polished design & tourist ghettos!
Another car, this time at Monastirakis
I'm not sure what this shop is about, but it made for a good shot when the guy turned up opening it right when I stopped there!
Old buildings were all around
Not sure where I should end up in the end I spent some time trying to at least figure out where I was!
This building was more or less falling apart
Eventually I made it to Monastirakis, not being even sure why! Since my flight was very early I was still not sure if I should just park myself on a bench, take the last bus to the airport to hang out there, or find another solution...
Stopping over at the hostel
The fun thing is that since I did not even know I also had no idea what I would see the next hours! More about that in the next post 😁
After a great meal at an restaurant where the couple running it clearly was more on the human, anarchist side than the corporate trolls that have taken over too much of Europe I was able to think rather than roam.
Which is when I first discovered that I still had around 20 bucks left in Travala, which is a great app for traveling spending crypto.
And also there was a hostel a few blocks away that was affordable!
So that is how I ended up in a big room in the afternoon, getting a shower that left me a little less stinky than before. First time since maybe 92 or so that I paid for a hostel bed haha...
That's it for now, next up is very old, Greek things from Monastirakis in Athens! #monomad
