I wonder, what is out there in our garden today? #Monomad
This morning I had this thought, how does our garden look through a cheap macro zoom and with no colours?
For the workflow & technical details I've done this video: About the garden post from today
Banana plants
I think pictures like these were among the first I posted on Hive, along with our cats and dog of course! But that was in colour, and they do look very different this way.
The shapes become more important, composition, the whole experience is different.
Fresh leaf
The tree in the back is still not that old, maybe its half a year or less since the whole garden was redone by a gardener?
I had to be really careful about this tree, and especially the ones that were moved, but now they manage well on natural rain, growing new leaves like this one.
Unknown flower
I have no idea what name this flower has! Maybe its called Henry...
It would not help much to ask my wife I'm afraid, we're equally useless for things like this haha!
Contrast
I really like some of the contrast that came out of this combo and process. Some images like this one sort of comes to life that way, in colour it would have been boring & basically nothing.
Actually I would probably have skipped it if colour photography was the task.
Big leaves
I really like the lines here! There is another variant with more details in the shadows, but I think this one works better.
More contrasts
There is something about that plant in black & white, to my eye it kinda feels like there is some green in there!
Different rendering
I was hesitating a bit about this one, its just different, very soft. The intention was to do one style across the whole series, but then it sort of works this way too. More mysterious, sort of...
Flower or vegetable?
I don't think this is edible, but who knows haha!
The shape of it combined with the leaves worked I feel.
Branches on our tree
I really like the way this is rendered. It gave me some pointers to how I can recreate a look digitally that I last saw in the darkroom, using Neopan 400.
So its a good data point for building my black & white style, this time in digital version!
Dead banana leaf
This is probably the weakest of them, but I'll include it anyway. The shapes sort of works, and depending on what device its seen on maybe the sharp area around the edge catches the eye.
Is this real macro?
Of course its not real macro, its more just some close ups. Yet its an interesting thing to have done right now, its been ages since I did anything like it.
Normally I would just flip a lens around, holding it to the body and getting some shots that way the few times I wanted something super tiny done.
I might pick up some extension tubes again though, I can totally see that this too can be an addition like the fisheye, where I'm able to produce & publish more each given day, regardless of where I'm staying and what is going on!
Thanks for the macro inspiration, everyone here 🙂
That is it for now!
Thanks!
Thanks! Means a lot in this improbably, new trajectory that my existence is taking! 😀
Oh well, I admit to planning all of that too haha
Wow very nice
Thanks! Actually it made me view our garden in a different way I think :-)
Excellent photographs. The variety of textures and shapes that are more visible in black and white images is one of the reasons to enjoy this type of art. When the colors that delight the eye are removed, other aspects of composition, textures, and contrasts that are sometimes overlooked come to light. Thank you for showing us magical parts of your garden. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
