Greek islands & a long ferry trip! #Monomad challenge

(Edited)

It was time to leave, and since I had already been at the pier it was easy to get the timing right.

Sorting out cars to enter

I do enjoy ferries a lot, the busyness is positive and kinda relaxed at the same time. Things move slower and in different ways at sea, so the whole vibe is different from both train and station, planes and airports, and road traffic.

The tourist area where I stayed

If I could I would of course have explored all of the island, normally I would rent a motorbike, but time & cost put a stop to that this time.

Will I be back? You never know! Especially the fact that its easy, but long winded, to travel between Turkey and Greece using ferries via Rhodes is something I will keep in mind...

Leaving the port

Pictures like this are not exiting or anything, but I like the contrast and the way it all curves.

This sailboat was anchored very close

Have I seen this sort of thing thousands of times from my own sailing in my boats across 2 decades?

Actually this sailboat was anchored, so unless it was within an area where that is prohibited it was in the right. Still annoying, and why not just move a little when you see the ferry is arriving?

Another sailboat & island

Maybe I should try to sort out which island is which one, but for a short visit and writing this it should not be necessary.

The light is of course super harsh, lots of glare!

Random Greek passenger

After the sun set there were still an island or two to see before it all got real dark. Lots of pastel colours, but with jpeg only it comes out muddy... Good thing this is #monomad !

The flag after sunset

I really like the Greek flag, especially on a boat or ship! Its just so clear cut, strict but lively. This experiment came out as acceptably sharp in this one exposure, using a tripod would of course have made everything worse!

Also Greece has thousands of years of maritime history of course, including a substantial part of the shipping traffic world wide in modern times.

So they can certainly be proud of that! Which reminds me of something I really like with these ferries, they use their anchors routinely. That seldom happens in more regulated areas of Europe, where everything is about convenience, not real seamanship...

Lots of activity here!

I really enjoyed watching all of this, and I feel that the mood comes across as it was. The ferries are of course what all timetables and activity revolves around out here, both for locals and tourists!

That's it for the evening on the ferry from Rhodes to Athens!

I just love how stark the contrasts are. Personally that's my preferred visual style. I like me stark contrasts, and you did a great job with your exposures!

Makes me want to pick up street photography again. I used to rock a Fuji X100 the original. Then i progressed onto the T version. I prefer the original X100 sensor as it made the colours pop naturally. Later versions of the same cam had new sensors installed and it jus wasn't the same feels.

Thanks! I cannot really recall, but there should be some manual work in here.

Either way its a change from "thinking commercial" which I always did when I had my studio & then tiny agency, it feels great being able to do things like this on Hive!
