Travel with LightCaptured - On top of St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City, 40 photos

If you are one of those, who are passionate about travel and photography, visiting the top of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatical City is a must!

I am absolutely certain there isn't any modern person who has not heard of that famous place where the Pope serves.

Today I am going to share my memories and pictures from the day I had the awesome opportunity to climb up there and enjoy the views and the spirit of this divine place. From my point of view, this basilica is one of the most beautiful and most impressive religious buildings in the world and today I am focusing on its upper part and my observation from there.

If you decide to go up, prepare for long queues. They allow only for a certain number of people to be inside that part. Also, there is an elevator for those who are not able or willing to take the staircase. That, however, makes the waiting time even longer.

At least, while waiting, there are so many beautiful pieces of art around, interesting too:

This one raised a question... Why is there an Arabic text under this statue and what does it say? This remains unanswered to me, still.

After waiting for some time, we decided to take the staircase. Nothing interesting there to photograph, and judging by the timestamp of the photos, it took us about eight minutes to get to that "balcony". Plenty of people around, but I was able to sneak that photo:

The beauty of the ceiling... masterful!

I could sense the divine level of acoustics inside even out of the service hours. I could also clearly hear the distant voices of the people, visiting the ground level of the basilica.

There is a protective wire-net, I bet you could tell that by these photos. I think I managed to make it less visible in my pictures by playing with the camera aperture.

Amazing wall mosaics here too, here is one of them.

Narrow tunnels and spiral staircases like these girdle the dome:

Following the route, we got to a narrow external terrace with 360 degree access around the dome.

Too bad there were nets and iron fence everywhere but people do crazy stuff around famous places, as we all know...

I tell you here and trust me on that, I could spend hours there, enjoying and photographing those views, and taking some precious time to reflect on the matter of life...

One other level to visit, open to the public, before going back to the ground level was the huge terrace behind the massive sculptures of the saints, put on the edge:

I was not the only one enjoying and appreciating this scenery walk. This lonesome seagull kept me company while I was walking around and taking more photos.

Time really flies here, so the moment became to go back down and enjoy the remaining parts of the stunning Vatical City.
