A Walk Around a Rural Area in Upper East Region, Ghana

Good day, family. It's a beautiful day, and I am excited to share with you some shots I got on my early morning walk around a rural area, a suburb of Navrongo in the Upper East Region of Ghana. The people are currently in the Harmattan period. It is a period of intense coldness and a dry environment. In this post, you'll see a typical environment and building architecture of the upper regions of Ghana.

The first picture here is of a beer bar where they sell all kinds of beers. Although the place is open during the day, it is usually active in the evening. Here is where most of the community's young men and women take refreshments after work. The place was still closed because I took this picture early in the morning.

The next shots are pictures of cattle under a tree and another set of cattle grazing on dry grasses. The environment alone will hint at what these cattle go through during this kind of weather. Everywhere is dry, and they have to graze on the dry grasses until it's a wet season again. The heat is also intense; you will mostly see these cattle under trees just to feel the shade.

I also captured the traditional system of buildings here. These are the most common buildings you will find here. They are simple and less costly.

The following set of images depicts a closer look at the modern-day building forms seen here. The first frame contains an unfinished building with cement bricks. The bricks are a mixture of cement and sea sand. The last frame is a hostel for students staying in the community.

These are the types of structures and architecture found in Ghana's upper-east region. The people are very comfortable with it, and this is the period during which they normally harvest their foodstuffs, such as rice and beans. I hope you like the environment and the buildings here. They are simple, and the cost to put up a traditional building here is minimal.
Thanks for your time.

You show the view out there. All are dry areas.

Did you feel too hot or you just feel "okay" about the weather?

The traditional building indeed popular in the rural area. In my area too.

Nice walk with the surrounding you share here

Sure, the current weather condition here make it very hot and it's normal here because we've become used to it.

Thank you for your time friend.
