Welcome to the third part of the pictures that have been waiting on the hard disk for their appearance. First there are some light paintings.
Herzlich Willkommen zum dritten Teil der Bilder, die bisher auf der Festplatte auf ihren Auftritt gewartet haben. Zuerst gibt's einige Lightpaintings.
I haven't posted this picture before because I only took this one picture at this location. It is an underground fuel tank of the National People's Army of the GDR. I will probably never forget the visit there. You can only get into this tank by crawling through an 80 cm thick, 3 metre long pipe. Because of my "stately" figure, I was afraid that I would get stuck in the pipe. Once I was in, I was afraid that I wouldn't get out of the tank again. And you can't imagine how it stinks in that tank. Even if the diesel fuel was pumped out 25 years ago, you can't stand it there for long. I was glad when I got out again. But the picture is pretty cool, isn't it? I walked through the entire tank (60 metres) with the Back Light Scanner and blew some fog into the tank at the end and then lit it up with a green Convoy S2+.
Diese Bild habe ich bisher nicht gepostet, weil ich an dieser Location nur dieses eine Bild aufgenommen habe. Es handelt sich um einen unterirdischen Kraftstofftank der Nationalen Volksarmee der DDR. Den Besuch dort werde ich wohl nie vergessen. Man kommt in diesen Tank nur wenn man durch ein 80 cm dickes, 3 Meter langes Rohr kriecht. Ob meiner "stattlichen" Figur hatte ich Angst, dass ich in dem Rohr stecken bleibe. Als ich drin war hatte ich Angst, dass ich nicht wieder aus dem Tank rauskomme. Und ihr könnt euch nicht vorstellen, wie es in diesem Tank stinkt. Auch wenn der Dieselkraftstoff schon vor 25 Jahren abgepumpt wurde, hält man das dort nicht lange aus. Ich war froh, als ich wieder raus war. Aber das Bild ist ganz cool, oder? Ich bin mit dem Back Light Scanner durch den gesamten Tank (60 Meter) gelaufen und habe am Ende etwas Nebel in den Tank geblasen und mit einer grünen Convoy S2+ diesen dann beleuchtet.
This one was not quite so simple. First I photographed the back side of the moon. I had illuminated it from the inside with the torch. When I had landed back on earth and screwed the camera onto a second tripod I illuminated the grids on the ground, I put myself in the right position with cowl and mask. Behind me I had an orange Convoy S2+ mounted on a third tripod and a grid in front of it. In front of me I had placed a Convoy S2+ UV. I had painted the mask with UV active paint. I had attached fishing line to the base. At the other end I had attached the cap to cover the lens. When I was in the right place, I pulled the cap off the lens with my foot. After a few seconds, I finished the exposure with the radio remote trigger. This is invisible because my hand is in the sleeve of the cowl. All in one exposure without post-processing the image on the computer.
Das hier war nicht ganz so einfach. Zuerst habe ich die Rückseite des Mondes fotografiert. Diesen hatte ich mit der Taschenlampe von innen beleuchtet. Als ich dann wieder auf der Erde gelandet war und die Kamera auf ein zweites Stativ geschraubt hatte beleuchtete ich die Gitter am Boden, stellte ich mich mit Kutte und Maske an die richtige Position. Hinter mir hatte ich auf einem dritten Stativ eine orange Convoy S2+ und davor ein Gitter befestigt. Vor mir hatte ich eine Convoy S2+ UV platziert. Die Maske hatte ich mit UV aktiver Farbe bemalt. Am Fuß hatte ich Angelsehne befestigt. Am anderen Ende war die Mütze zum Abdecken des Objektivs befestigt. Als ich an der richtigen Stelle stand zog ich mit dem Fuß die Mütze vom Objektiv. Nach einigen Sekunden beendete ich mit dem Funkfernausllöser die Belichtung. Dieser ist unsichtbar, weil meine Hand im Ärmel der Kutte steckt. Alles in einer Belichtung ohne nachträgliche Bearbeitung des Bildes am Computer.
I shot an Orb. Yippee! With a beautiful reflection on the freshly polished floor. Orb with reflection is always good. Gets lots of likes on Facebook and Instagram. But since I don't give a shit about that kind of thing, I put myself in the picture. I'm sure that doesn't get as many likes. 😂🤣
Ich habe einen Orb gedreht. Jippie! Mit schöner Reflektion auf dem frisch polierten Boden. Orb mit Reflektion kommt immer gut. Gibt ganz viel Likes bei Facebook und Instagram. Da mir so etwas aber scheißegal ist habe ich mich selbst noch mit ins Bild geleuchtet. Das gibt sicher nicht so viele Likes. 😂🤣
My artistic achievement in this photo is not particularly great. The traces of light were painted into the picture by Anja Räubertochter. The mural is by Sokar Uno. I illuminated it with the UV torch, Anja with the DIY Light Scanner and ... well, pressed the shutter button of the camera.
Meine künstlerische Leistung an diesem Bild ist nicht besonders groß. Die Lichtspuren wurden von Anja Räubertochter ins Bild gemalt. Das Mural stammt von Sokar Uno. Ich habe dieses mit der UV Taschenlampe beleuchtet, Anja mit dem DIY Light Scanner beleuchtet und ... na ja, auf den Auslöser der Kamera gedrückt.
This is a remake of a picture from our early days. My son Erik was still a child at the time. Now he can already eat schnitzel with a knife and fork and is studying. The cool thing about light painting is that you can reproduce the picture, even many years later... that is, if you haven't forgotten what you did back then.
Dieses ist ein Remake eines Bildes aus unseren Anfangstagen. Mein Sohn Erik war damals noch ein Kind. Jetzt kann er schon Schnitzel mit Messer und Gabel essen und studiert. Das coole am Lightpainting ist, dass man das Bild reproduzieren kann, auch viele Jahre später... also wenn man nicht vergessen hat, was man damals gemacht hat.

Normally I go by car, but here I took the metro for a change.
Normalerweise fahr ich ja mit dem Auto, aber hier war ich mal ausnahmsweise mit der U-Bahn unterwegs.

I think an oxygen tank is in order for that fuel storage tank. Reading your description of it gave me a touch of claustrophobia combined with the thought of what fuel smells do to me in open air was fun. Really cool photo and location. I could not have gone in there to do that. Impressive.
LOL! That's quite the feat of a foot. Really interesting how you did this one. I'm learning more all the time, just need the wool cap.
Really liked the one with you and the orb. The milky way at Hiddensee is cool. I always like seeing the locations as is. What the story behind the name Hiddensee? It's hidden at night, hence 12 black pictures? 😂
The tank was the most uncomfortable locations I ever visited. Till now... 😂
@nineclaws better start with some easier things and forget about to uncover the lens or hit the remote trigger with your feet. It is always better to do lightpainting in company.
Hiddensee is a small island in the Baltic Sea. Only 1200 people living there. There are only a few lights at night. Most photos taken at night will be black. 😂 A calendar with 12 black photos would fit perfect the sense of humour of the guys living there.

I agree, it's always better to do lightpainting in company. I don't even have a remote trigger. 😂 I specialized in carving sculptures, so I that's where my investment went. Easiest to say that I have limited equipment and limited for lightpainting company, complicated by 2020, in terms of changing both. That means I have to get creative with my approach.
Wow, never heard of Hiddensee, love the name. I can see now why most photos would be black and why that would fit for the guys there, lol. It must have been a really interesting place to be.
One of the best light painter in the world said sometimes: "You can create an entire new universe in your kitchen." Tim Gamble aka @fadetoblack is right. You don't need the huge impressive lost place to do lightpainting. But it is about the fun creating art together with like-minded people.
LOL! I, um, did shoot some in my tiny kitchen, just not posted. I find I like using working with water. I see that @fadetoblack also likes working with water. I'll have to go through his posts.
I agree that the really cool locations that several of you shoot at isn't necessary, but they are really appealing.
I haven't had that experience in about twelve years and I miss it. It's one of the aspects I enjoy seeing with what you all create.
I was up late experimenting and managed to get a few results that were acceptable, so I'm getting there. I think too, my background of doing an old form of traditional Japanese carving has influenced me heavily in terms of "rules". In my approach to lightpainting, this is exactly where I've gone in my mind, "what are the rules, what makes a photo a lightpainting". I've started to break that down because I'm seeing that lightpainting is not so rigidly structured.
Light painting is about waving lights in front of the camera. My only rule is to capture the lights in one single exposure without post processing. So it is a kind of real photography of unreal things. My art is not visible in reality, but it is real... in my mind and on the sensor of the camera.
That one is cemented in my mind, since it's a practice already with all photography I do.
This is another aspect about it that really appeals to me.
I like that way of seeing.
