Wednesday Walk - The other side of Walled City - Intramuros Manila; Baluarte De San Francisco Dilao and Memorae Manila 1945 monument.

Last week, I shared about Fort Santiago in Intramuros Manila, which one of the historical place in the Philippines. I also mentioned that the Intramuros were 67,0000 square meters wide, so what I shared in my previous blogs is just a peek. Now, let me take you a walk to the other side;

d10.png

In my previous Wednesday walk, did you remember seeing this carriage?

339548509_2351369018368137_6479673102155442064_n.jpg

On the right side, this is where you can find the San Agustin Church

Trivia: San Agustin is the oldest stone church in the Philippines and was founded in 1571 and was completed in 1607. During the Spanish times, it serves as a political influence. Not only that, when World War II was the only building stand intact after the destruction of Intramuros. Source

Like in Manila Cathedral, many couples wanted to tie the knot here. Legend says all marriage takes in this place, got a successful relationship and lasted forever.

Perhaps that was one of the reasons why the couple in the above picture chose this church. I couldn't take photos as a photoshoot was still ongoing. My phone camera just captured sight of it.

From this place, my feet brought me to Memorae Manila just a few minutes away.

This monument was dedicated to more than a hundred thousand innocent victims and civilians killed during the war for the Liberation of Manila on February 3 and March 3, 1945. Many of them were nameless on their graves, and even some hadn't had graves at all. Their bodies were burnt and turned into ashes beneath the debris of ruins. Source.

As written at the back of the monument, this will be opened on February 18, 2045,
While reading, I can't help but feel sad knowing about their tragic death. War during colonization was never good. Many had lost their lives.

After this, I was supposed to visit Baluarte De San Diego but sadly, it was only open until four in the afternoon, and it was past when I passed by.

IMG_20230401_164314.jpg

And so I took a few more walks, leading me to the Great Walls, also called Muralla.

IMG_20230401_164326.jpg

This wall was built around the whole area as protection from any possible attacks, as the former Governor before resided here. It was made of brick and stones that hardened as the time passed. You see in the appearance even though you are looking at a century-old construction.

You could read from here a written guide for the nearest tourist attractions you wanted to visit, and long it would take by walking or e-trike. I also noticed a small beside, and when I took a peak, I saw a rustic old Canon, probably used during that time. I was planning to get inside, but the entrance was on the other side, so I took a straight walk for a while.

IMG_20230401_164443.jpg

Thus, I wasn't lucky to wander just like in Baluartes De San Diego. Remember the couple above that just married? They pay for the whole place as the venue for the reception!

Even if given a chance, I would choose this place as a venue! Imagine celebrating a new chapter of your life in one of the historical places. Not to mention the whole place could be a fantastic vintage theme!

I am curious how much they spent to get the whole area exclusive for the party. Seeing the guest earlier, I know they are from a well-off family.

With that, I only had a peak of the entrance as the Lady Guard called my attention! How sad; based on what I am wearing, it was not hard to guess I am not one of them!

Yet, there is no reason to be sad as there are still to be visited and besides I am already tired. My feet are already sore, plus I am thirsty.

The good thing, and I was surprised, was a new food stall built along the long walls; instead of seeing a plain wall, a different type of kiosk. The idea was brilliant as this was near the schools inside Intramuros.

Above this, you will find the Baluarte De San Francisco Dilao. I could only read a little of the history, but I know this was built to prevent threat invasion in the Walled City (Intramuros).

The whole area speaks why; it was high and could see, monitor and secure the entire place. Those canons say so.

Hello Hivers, it's Wednesday again, and as usual, here is my entry in @tattoodjay Wednesday walk in collaboration with @elizacheng to make me smile. I hope I made you 😊.

Even I love this place of all I visited this year! I was even planning to go back here as I wasn't able to check some of the great places...
Even the restaurants that give vintage vibes.
It was already afternoon when I started the journey and that wasn't enough to saturate the whole area..

Visiting historical places has been my thing these days, I guessed I am aging already 😁

A beautiful place full of history. I liked that if you get married there the relationship will be successful and long lasting. How nice. I imagine renting the place for the celebration is very expensive. I enjoyed walking around with you, beautiful pictures. greetings.

The place was really a great venue for wedding but it was so expensive plus the fact it would be hard to get a slot.
The church alone prices ranges from $266 - $532..
Venue of reception not yet included 😁..

Everytime nakikota ko ang Intra, naaalala ko ang college days ko sa PLM. So nostalgic. Kaya ko pinanood yung mga unang parts ng Maria Claea at Ibarrra, yung setting nila brings back memories. Haha. Yung pictures mo sa wall, yan ang picture you can smell eh. Haha. Amoy na amoy yung amoy muog pag nakatambay kami jan sa wall, pero syempre tambay pa more. Haha
