Market Friday - Visits public market years after.

Cream Mountain Photo Blog Banner.jpg

It's been a while I haven't visited the public market since the pandemic started. I used to buy veggies and fruits before to save some pennies rather than in talipapa ( small market) near my place. Thus when Covid happened, the local government imposed market schedules for every Barangay, which became an inconvenience on my part. Not only that, I did not risk going to crowded places as I was prone to catching the virus. If my memory is correct, my last visit was before March 15, 2020.
Yet today, my housemate and I decided to roam around the market to buy some things we needed.
We chose to commute using public transportation, which is very common here in our place, the Sarao jeep.

I was trying to capture a picture of the jeep alone, but since it was a busy street, people kept moving back and forth.

Surprisingly, we got a smooth ride, with no traffic this time. Good thing as we left our house a little bit late. It was not an ideal time to go to the public market, is already crowded.

I was right; as we arrived, there was already a lot of tricycle parked outside and many shoppers. I almost stepped back upon seeing this crowd, but I was relieved somehow as everyone was still wearing a facemask.

We first checked the meat section, and since I am not that fond of , I bought only grind pork.

Want some eggs? Recently, the price suddenly spiked up here in my country due to a shortage. I wasn't able to read all the news about it though. Before, you could still buy one piece for P5 or $.08, but the smallest is already P7 or $0.12.

Dried fish? This is one of the popular Filipino food too. The smell might not be that nice when fried, but it tastes best when served with hot/fried rice and spicy vinegar as a sauce. Usually, I paired this with steam lady finger plus a hot coffee. Perfect for breakfast.

I was checking some fruits, thinking about what to buy, but I found it hard to choose as I wanted everything.

20220821_085703.jpg

Thus, my attention was caught by this Papaya.

20220821_085408.jpg

I regretted not minding these when I was still in the countryside. We have several planted in our backyard, but I never dare to eat them as I wouldn't say I like the appearance.

I would even offer it to our neighbors for free. I had to buy one as I am now staying in the city.

20220821_085027.jpg

Watermelon, Banana, or corn? It seems the sellers are already tired and sleepy. The other one was even sleeping already. I think they had been selling since the wee hours. Corns? That reminds me of my childhood as I used to come with my brother to harvest from our neighbors. We are not paid for that; instead, we will have some corns, which also depends on the volume we gather. Money as payment was not on trend during those times.

Familiar with that hairy fruit the lady in blue was arranging? You may mistake it as atsuete (used as food color) because of the physical appearance, but it is not. This one is what we called Rambutan. I think this only grows in tropical countries. If I am not mistaken, this is similar to the lychee as they are both in the Soapberry family.

Few more walks and saw these root crops; cassava and sweet potato. Typical snacks if you are living in the countryside. Not complicated to cook, just boiled. Not only for snacks but also as a good substitute for rice (an Asian thing).

I was satisfied with what I had both and about to go home but saw this parsley. I seldom cook, but I love adding this when cooking as I love the aroma.

And that's how my market days end and decided to write about it as my entry for Marketfriday by @dswigle.

Have a great day, Hivers!

oh, sadly I suck in cooking Department Kuya. " wala lasa lagi, parang ulan lng daw" Or it could be bitter. Hahaha

That is my weakness, I can do all the household chores but please, don't let me cook. Or yeah, I am okay to cook but don't dare to complain. hahaha

As expected, it's Pasig! The cover photo looked familiar haha. We used to go there as early as 5am to buy fruits as it is cheaper there.

Marketttt! 😍
Before I didn’t really like going to the market but now, I miss going to the markets in the Philippines. Even though there are a lot of people, it’s so lively, eventful and so noisy 😅

Nice to go into a market with all the produce you need under one roof, all fresh!

Have not visited a large open like this in many years.

Used to enjoy big markets, none close enough now I rely on small corner shop where owner goes through a couple of times a week to collect fresh produce from market, still much cheaper than supermarkets.

Wow! That is pretty great, not having to go to the public market for 2 1/2 years! I never stopped going, but I always wore a mask. Rambutan is a tropical fruit and is usually found in Southeast Asia. In Vietnam, I remember they called it chom chom (messy hair!) and I am sure you are correct that they are related to the lychee. Isn't it funny what we pay no notice of, especially when they are right at our fingertips? I used to have lemon and grapefruit trees and I never ate them, but, when I moved, I craved them! Silly me!

I love those tricycles! Such a nice easy way to get around. I wish we had more here. There are a few on the streets of Washington, DC. It was cool the first time I saw it. I loved your post and it was fun going with you! Congratulations! You have graduated to public shopping once again!
Thank you for participating in #MarketFriday! I appreciate the time and effort that goes into putting a post together for the challenge. It is with great pleasure that I read through and realize how much we have all tried to include things in our world that may be unique to the area. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, especially the small things that go unnoticed except by those looking for them. Life is interesting, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. I hope the week has found you healthy and happy, as we all look to prosper in our way of life.

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive or cheap? Did it go up or down? Please do not post 30 pictures with no words about them.Do not use pictures more than once in a post!
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess on some
    4. #MarketFriday must be your first tag.
Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
    5. PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  4. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.
As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

Thank you for the response @dswigle, appreciate it!
Haha yeah, silly me too, now we craved those things we took for granted😂.
I love spending time in public markets as it was indeed cheap especially early in the mornibg rather than buying in supermarkets. Well aside from that, for sure it is still fresh, more likely newly harvested.

Tricycle and jeepney is the common public transportation here in our country especially in provinces.

Would be writing for sure again in this community.
