Torres Winery - A Vineyard Visit in Catalonia

Hello friends. Last month we headed to a wine production facility located in the Penedès region, a vineyard estate owned by the Torres family. During our visit we watched a film, walked through the vineyards, took a short ride on an electric train, explored the cellars then joined a tasting session with four different wines. We also tried some interesting tapas. The wine, scenery and atmosphere were all incredibly impressive.

The tour began with a short film. It told the story of the Torres family, their traditions and the countries and regions where they currently produce wine. Though brief, it was informative and made for a pleasant start to the visit. Watching the family’s connection with winemaking sparked curiosity for the rest of the experience.

After the film we were taken to a vineyard prepared specifically for demonstration purposes. Different grape varieties had been specially planted here so that guests could see the diversity and learn about how the grapes are cultivated.

The next part was a short tour on a small electric train. We joined the train ride but unfortunately no information was shared during the journey. We were simply moving along and observing the surroundings. We had no idea where we were going but we enjoyed the views.

Honestly I was glad to be there. Seeing how such an impressive business was achieved by a single family amazed me. The vineyard was full of beauty. The grape buds were visible and it was easy to imagine the place soon becoming a blossom factory.

They also showed us some of their products. It was really impressive. From what I could tell this is managed by a relatively small family with close ties.

Eventually we arrived at the production area then descended into the winery’s cellar. The smell of wine inside was wonderful. Then came a very interesting part of the experience. We were taken into a dark room where soft music was playing. There was no light, only barrels visible behind glass. These barrels store wines considered premium. The setting was quite unusual. We walked as if in a parking garage with nothing visible around us other than the barrels behind the glass.

This room was the part that impressed me the most. Everything was arranged aesthetically and the music played in a mysterious way. At first it was very dark then the light slowly came on and finally the entire hall was illuminated. We could see many barrels of expensive wines. It was beautifully designed and I really liked it.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the actual production area. After the room with the elite wines we returned to the main building. The price for this tour was 36 euros per person. This included the winery tour, a tasting of four wines and some small tapas.

Later we moved on to the tasting section. By then I understood everything about this place. I was very curious to see what they would serve and offer. Along with our group of eight people we had the tasting in the museum. They had mentioned this at the start of the tour, and finally we visited the museum where the tasting took place. The museum is a space they take great pride in.

First we tried the vermouth. I don’t recall drinking such an impressive beverage before. The aroma was outstanding. Despite its 20 percent alcohol content it was incredibly smooth. It went down easily and the alcohol was hardly noticeable. The flavor was rich and very aromatic.

Then we moved on to the tapas. They were served on elegant toothpicks. The first tapa might not appeal to everyone but the second one was truly amazing. It was a sweetish omelet made with fish. Serving liver sausage with wine was an interesting combination but we gave it a try.

The glasses were emptied, so were the plates. In short we were full and had tasted everything. The tapas were quite interesting. I especially liked the red wine. The vermouth was great too. The white wines were not really for me. It was nice to have the option of switching alcoholic wines with non-alcoholic alternatives. The tasting session was very short, maybe around 20 minutes. Four types of wine were served but in small amounts.

After the vineyard visit you can also stop by the estate’s shop. Prices varied. For instance they had a vintage brandy priced at 123 euros. Tour participants get a 10 percent discount.

That was the end of our visit to the Torres vineyard. If you’re a fan of Torres I definitely recommend coming here. This place reflects their spirit, their atmosphere, their story.

That’s all for today friends.

See you on new adventures.

Sending you lots of love 🤗

It's an incredible tour, a tremendous experience. I found everything beautiful and unique. At first, I thought the ticket price was a little high, but after seeing the wine tasting and appetizers, I think it's a very fair and affordable price. Thank you for showing us such a complete itinerary. @lett
