Today I want to tell you a very pleasant story for me. After several years I was able to see my grandfather again. I hope you like my little story.


Hoy quiero contarles una anécdota muy agradable para mí. Luego de varios años pude volver a ver a mi abuelo. Espero les guste mi pequeña historia.

Unfortunately, my grandfather moved quite far away 10 years ago, which makes contact very complicated. Lately, everything was summed up in calls and messages. And although it helps not to miss him so much, it's not enough.

Lamentablemente, mi abuelo hace 10 años se mudó bastante lejos, lo que hace muy complicado el contacto. Últimamente, todo se resumía en llamadas y mensajes. Y aunque ayuda a no extrañar tanto, no es suficiente.
A few days ago, we got a rather unexpected and surprising message. It was my grandfather saying that he is a few miles away. It was news we couldn't believe. Without warning, my grandfather was just a few minutes away. Obviously, as soon as we heard the news, we got ready to go visit him.
Hace unos días, nos llegó un mensaje bastante inesperado y sorpresivo. Era mi abuelo diciendo que está a unos pocos kilómetros. Fue una noticia que no podíamos creer. Sin previo aviso, mi abuelo estaba a unos minutos de distancia. Obviamente, apenas nos enteramos, nos preparamos para irnos a visitarlo.


After about 20 minutes of travel, the long-awaited moment arrived. After several years, I was able to see my grandfather again. Obviously, there was happiness and joy in the atmosphere. Hugs and laughter were not long in coming.

Después de unos 20 minutos de viaje, llegó el momento esperado. Luego de varios años, pude volver a ver a mi abuelo. Obviamente, había felicidad y alegría en el ambiente. Los abrazos y las risas no se hicieron esperar.
The funny thing is that it was a gathering of quite a few people. And while everyone was chatting and catching up, my grandfather and I started playing cards. We have a tradition with him that when we see each other, we start playing. We literally spent 5 hours playing, locked in our bubble, while everyone else was still chatting.
Lo curioso es que era una reunión de bastantes personas. Y mientras todos se ponían a conversar y a ponerse al día, mi abuelo y yo nos pusimos a jugar a las cartas. Con él tenemos la tradición que cuando nos vemos, nos ponemos a jugar. Literalmente, estuvimos 5 horas jugando, encerrados en nuestra burbuja, mientras los demás seguían conversando.

The precious moment was accompanied by a good snack (as is tradition in my country, Argentina). Although I'm on a diet, that was my permission, I did not stay with the desire. And as I have a good appetite, I was the one who ate the most, by far. We ate something that here we call "facturas". Which are pieces of sweet dough with dulce de leche, cream, jam, etc.

El precioso momento fue acompañado de una buena merienda (Como es tradición, en mi país, Argentina). Aunque yo estoy a dieta, ese fue mi permitido, no me quedé con las ganas. Y como tengo un buen apetito, fui el que comió más, con diferencia. Comimos algo que acá le llamamos “facturas”. Que son unas piezas de masa dulce con dulce de leche, crema, mermelada, etc.
After a couple of hours, it was time for dinner and it was time to bring the pizza! This was my second allowance of the day. I didn't want to be left wanting 😅. Obviously, my appetite took center stage again, eating almost an entire pizza by myself. Luckily, I have a metabolism that doesn't allow me to gain weight easily.
¡Después de un par de horas, llegó el momento de la cena y fue el momento de traer la pizza! Este fue mi segundo permitido del día. No quería quedarme con las ganas 😅. Obviamente, mi apetito volvió a ser protagonista, comiendo casi una pizza entera yo solo. Por suerte, tengo un metabolismo que no me permite subir de peso con facilidad.

Hours passed like minutes and minutes like seconds. Until it was time to leave. I really enjoyed this experience. To tell the truth, I missed my grandfather and those afternoons playing with him. Life gave me a priceless memory.

Las horas pasaron como minutos y los minutos como segundos. Hasta que llegó la hora de irse. Disfruté mucho esta experiencia. La verdad, extrañaba a mi abuelo y a esas tarde de juegos con él. La vida me regaló un recuerdo invaluable.
My grandfather is 85 years old and you never know when you might see him for the last time. Perhaps this is a sad thought, but it helps me to cherish these moments and experiences as much as possible. I like to keep in mind that time is limited and more so for our grandparents, for obvious reasons.
Mi abuelo tiene 85 años y nunca se sabe cuando pueda ser la última vez que lo vea. Tal vez es un poco triste este pensamiento, pero a mí me ayuda a valorar lo máximo posible estos momentos y estas experiencias. Me gusta tener en cuenta que el tiempo es limitada y más para nuestros abuelos, por obvias razones.

Enjoy and make the most of your time with your grandparents and family in general. You never know when it may be the last "goodbye", the last hug or the last anecdote. There are many people who regret not having done this when they had the opportunity.

Disfruten y aprovechen al máximo el tiempo con sus abuelos y familiares en general. Nunca se sabe cuando puede ser el último “adiós”, el último abrazo o la última anécdota. Hay muchas personas que se arrepienten de no haber hecho esto cuando tuvieron la oportunidad.

Not only that, he doesn't look or act like an 85 year old man ajaj. I think I have a grandfather for a while.
