What a valuable and cherished thing are those friendships that last through the years, even decades. To the point that they are almost like brothers and sisters.


Que cosa más valiosa y apreciada son esas amistades que permanecen a lo largo de los años, incluso de décadas. Al punto de que casi son como hermanos y hermanas.

For me, the word friendship is sacred. For me to consider someone as a friend, a lot of time and a lot of things have to happen. Without exaggerating, I only have 5 friends and I am more than satisfied. I have always been someone sociable and outgoing, I get along well with dozens of people, but between that and a friendship, there is an abyss of difference.

Para mí, la palabra amistad es sagrada. Para que yo considere a alguien como un amigo, tiene que pasar mucho tiempo y muchas cosas. Sin exagerar solo tengo 5 amigos y estoy más que conforme. Siempre fui alguien sociable y extrovertido, me llevo bien con decenas de personas, pero entre eso y una amistad, hay un abismo de diferencia.

I have always been very surprised by those people who call anything a "friend". I don't mean to judge other people's relationships, but how can you consider someone you barely know a friend? Someone you don't fully trust. That's why I think many people use the word "friend" simply for people they like. That's why I think people actually have fewer true friends than they think.

Siempre me sorprendió mucho aquellas personas que le llaman “amigo” a cualquier cosa. ¿No es mi intención juzgar relaciones ajenas, pero como puedes considerar amigo a alguien que apenas conoces? Alguien con quien no tienes plena confianza. Por eso, creo que muchos usan la palabra “amigo” simplemente para las personas que les caen bien. Por eso creo que la gente en realidad tiene menos amigos verdaderos de los que piensan.

I am fortunate to have lived almost all my life with two people from Infancia. We spent childhood, puberty, adolescence and now youth together. They are Juan and Brian and we have known each other since elementary school. And although we sometimes disagree and sometimes think very differently, we have always been very close friends. To the point of knowing very intimate things about each other, of being together in very difficult moments and helping each other whenever someone needs it.

Yo tengo la suerte de haber convivido casi toda mi vida con dos personas de la Infancia. Pasamos la niñez, la pubertad, la adolescencia y ahora la juventud, juntos. Ellos son Juan y Brian y nos conocemos desde la primaria. Y aunque a veces no estemos de acuerdo y a veces pensemos muy diferente, siempre fuimos amigos muy unidos. Al punto de saber cosas muy íntimas uno del otro, de estar en momentos muy difíciles y ayudarnos siempre que alguno lo necesite.

It's crazy to think of everything I went through with these people. Birthdays, Christmases, boozy nights out, etc. And obviously, also bad times. Bereavements, depressions, heartbreaks, etc. For the good and the bad, I always count on this group. For example, when my mom went through cancer last year, they were always there for me. This is something I appreciate and value very much.

Es una locura pensar en todo lo que pasé con estas personas. Cumpleaños, Navidades, noches de alcohol, etc. Y obviamente, también momentos malos. Lutos, depresiones, desamor, etc. Para lo bueno y lo malo, siempre cuento con este grupo. Por ejemplo, cuando mi mamá pasó por un cáncer en año pasado, ellos siempre estuvieron disponibles para mí. Esto es algo que aprecio y valoro muchísimo.

The reality is that life is unpredictable. If it were up to me, these friendships would be forever. Although there are things that could happen that one could not control. Maybe one of the 3 of us has to move, maybe one of us drifts apart because of life, maybe there's a fight, etc. So I try to enjoy these friendships as long as they last.

La realidad es que la vida es impredecible. Si fuera por mí, estás amistades serían para siempre. Aunque hay cosas que podrían pasar y uno no podría controlar. Tal vez uno de los 3 tenga que mudarse, tal vez uno se distancie por cosas de la vida, tal vez haya una pelea, etc. Por eso trato de disfrutar estas amistades lo máximo que dure.

It sounds a little corny, but the right choice of friends can improve your life. If you have a miserable and lacking life, the right friendships can alleviate and improve the hard times. That's why I feel so sad for people who don't have friends, because it's like not having a support, not having a place to lean on.

Suena un poco cursi, pero la correcta elección de amigos puede mejorar tu vida. Si tienes una vida miserable y con carencias, las amistades correctas pueden aliviar y mejorar los momentos duros. Por eso, me produce mucha tristeza aquellas personas que no poseen amigos, porque es como no tener un soporte, no tener donde apoyarte.

It's true, we can say that we have many friends, even if they are just people we get along with, but a true friend is someone who understands you is sincere and will support you in good and bad times also. You are lucky to have your true friends by your side :)
I have moved country, so I don't see many times the friends from my childhood.
