Windows, Signs and Cranes and More
Today I have a collection of random photographs to show you. These are some windows, signs and some construction cranes that I saw in my travels. I also incljded two left over doors that missed in my last door post. So without further preamble, let's take a look. I'll start with
Windows and Facades

The first (above) is a series of windows seen in the Azores. I like the warm evening sunlight reflected in the upper windows with the cool shadowed light reflected in the lower ones. Its a nice juxtaposition.

This next facade was seen in roughly the same location. I like the subtle fading of light to dark from top to bottom. The detail work of the design and achitecture of both photos is really nice. You don't see this level of craftsmanship in new builds nowadays.

On the opposite end of the spectrum we have here a facade that's more than a little worse for wear. Its falling apart. This one is in process of getting a makeover I think.

Here's a close up of the windows.

This next one is similar to the previous. Its being sold by the looks of the signs. I wonder how much these dilapidated homes sell for and how much it costs to renovate them? This one doesn't even have a roof so literally everything would need to be replaced. Maybe you're just buying the land when you purchase a home in this state? If anyone knows anything about real-estate in Portugal, the Azores or other European countries that sell homes in these conditions please let me know in the comments.

This one has some rust coming from the iron balcony railing and the facade could use a power wash, and fresh paint maybe. Otherwise its probably okay.

Similarly, a good power wash to get rid of the mold, dirt and the moss and this one is good to go. These windows are practically doors and they look like they open fully. Without the iron rails blocking them, they seem like potential ankle breakers for clumsy folks. How many people open windows and fall out of them in wonder? Probably just North American tourists I bet (*chuckles to himself).

I don't know what these tile murals/pictures are called but I like them. I'm not religious but they add a nice bit of character.

Pigeons!

It looks like the shutters blew off of two of the windows in this one.

This next one is a photo left over from France. Every country has its own architectural design style for its building facades.

This last set of windows is from Ottawa.
Doors
I only have two doors to show in this post. I missed including them in my door post (as mentioned). Sometimes the photos get lost in the gallery.

This first one is from a church.

The next is a large wooden door from the Royal Canadian Mint.
Signs
I have two signs to show you, both from Austria, from the city of Salzburg.

These are so charming and add so much character to a street and a storefront. I think that they demonstrate that it is possible to advertise a store or building without creating an eye sore.

I wish that we did this sort of thing in North America instead of the god awful brightly lit block letter advertisement style signs that are meant to stand out amongst the thousands of other similary ugly signs surrounding them.
Cranes
I took a bunch of photos of cranes in various places and have been saving them for years to do a full post on the subject.

Recently I went through them all and decided against it. I thought that it would be too boring a topic and my pictures were pretty crappy - Some of them.

I deleted most of the cranes I'd saved.

These are the ones that I thought were the best and most interesting photos.

They can be a pretty cool subject to take photos of.
Other
The last thing that I have to show is a very unique church located in Dijon France.

It had the most interesting collection of gothic Gargoyles that I've seen on a church.

A lot of the Gothic churches in France looked very similar with only minor differences in size and design. This one really stood out to me as being unique.

The Madonna (the Virgin Mary) holding the Child (baby Jesus) represents the purest form of maternal love.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Its a nice little detail of the building.
Interesting windows :)
I agree! 😃
Those are some beautiful old buildings!
I agree!
