Paris: Passages and Palace

avatar

The next stop during my sister's visit to France was Paris. She had never been to the city and Paris is a must see location when traveling to France, by anyone'sstandards I'm sure. I think that it would be hard to deny that.

We jumped on the train in Chantilly and headed over to the "City of Lights," early in the morning though, long before the lights were turned on...

I had a planned a walking tour for us that day, just to see some of the main sites of the city. We basically just did the touristy thing and checked out all of the main highlights.

Covered Passages

I always try and make the walk itself interesting on any trip and this time I managed to find a neat little spot on route just slightly off of the beaten path.

It was called "Passage des Panoramas" and it ended up being a very neat little find in the 9th arrondissement.

Though there are many covered passages in Paris, the Passage des Panoramas is the oldest in the city. It date all the way back to 1799.

20220712_093920~2.jpg

It was basically just a covered walkway lined with bars and restaurants and unique little boutique shops. But some of the shops were selling some very interesting goods so it ended up being very cool and definitly worth seeing.

It's not everyday that you see a winged coyote now is it?

Domaine National du Palais-Royal

From there we made our way through the Gardens of the Royal Palace of Paris. It was basically just a public park,

but I have a thing for trees lined up in straight lines so I thought it was neat. I think it's the Symmetry of it or something. I find it very satisfying.

From there we transitioned into the palace courtyard.

20220712_095236~2.jpg

The courtyard was kind of cool as well in that it had several statues and art fixtures to view - like these large metal balls. I feel like reflective balls are a favorite of artist. I can think of a few scattered around the places that I've been.

Another art piece is the installation of these black and white colored columns. Apparently they were both expensive to install and continue to be very expensive to maintain today.

20220712_095509~2.jpg

It's not surprising that the art feature was met with a lot of criticism by the public when it was first created.

Without having any sort of stake in the situation myself, I personally think that it pretty cool to see.

I liked the Royal Palace as a brief stop over along our walk that day. I wouldn't necessarily go way out of my way to see it but I was glad to make the small detour that day.

All and all I would say that it was a good start to my sisters first time in Paris.

Well thats it for now. If you are interested in seeing more of our trip then stay tuned, there's more to come. Until next time, thanks for stopping by.

What he said.

Out of all the places we've been, only twice Pura said she wants to live there. Paris was one.

As far as major cities go, Paris is quite special IMO. It really has a lot going for it. I never had any desire to see it prior to going but have now been there many times and can say that it's probably my favorite capital city - top 3 for sure. I haven't been to many capitals mind you. My experience with it was that it was clean, safe, welcoming, friendly, tons to do.

It's not everyday that you see a winged coyote now is it?

No? I do! In my dreams 😆

I cannot believe that I've not made it to Paris in all my travels. I guess it's because my husband has been and it's not a high priority on our list.
Still my best friend's dad has a flat in the centre, so maybe we could do a girls weekend there someday:)

I particularly like the symmetry of the trees, and the coyote dream 😅

Haha sounds like some interesting dreams.

Everyone has different preferences with travel destinations and with there being so many places to see out there it can be difficult to go back to a place after you have already been. The girls weekend would be a good way to see it I'm sure.

I like your big balls, but sheesh someone got paid to lay out a bunch of casino chips? I am in the wrong job so the saying goes.

Nice find with the passage, I bet most travellers would pass it by without a thought, great snaps!

Casino chips 😆
You're right they do look like that.
The artist must have been a good salesman as well.

🤓

"I'm thinking..Casino chips...wait wait hear me out. Different sized piles... very symmetrical and organized layout...what do you think."

🤔

"hmmm... Will it be hard to install? Hard to maintain and hard to clean?"

"Without a doubt"

"I love it. Let's do it!"

"Aye aye captain"

Hahaha true story though. At the time I was like wtf is this shit? But then they got me "re-educated" and now I think it's F-A-N-T-A-S-T-IC 🧟

Lol. I did like the look of them personally. I found them to be asthetically pleasing lol. But also, art is very subjective and often consists of nothing really. Art often makes people think "what is the point?" 😆

Art often makes people think "what is the point?"

Exactly. Studying Art at school made me realize how criteria are being skewed depending on the artist, subject, etc... It's all about the hype.
