Visiting Ajuy Village on Fuerteventura – September 2025

September on Fuerteventura has something special about it. Still warm, but already calmer, it lets you explore the island without the summer crowds. This time I decided to visit Ajuy – a small, atmospheric village on the west coast, known for its striking black-sand beach and impressive natural caves.

First Impressions of Ajuy

Ajuy welcomed me with raw beauty. The black volcanic sand contrasted with the deep turquoise of the ocean, and the air was filled with salt and the mist of breaking waves. The village is small and peaceful, with whitewashed houses that give it a cinematic charm.

Walking around is a pure pleasure — from the first seaside restaurants to the trail leading up to the cliffs. The wind, so typical of Fuerteventura, was unusually gentle that day, letting me enjoy the views without battling the elements.

Volcanic Rock Formations

The biggest attraction in Ajuy is, of course, the caves. The trek along the coast offers stunning views: high cliffs, powerful waves, and geological history written in the exposed layers of rock.

Stepping inside the caves is always impressive — their scale and the echoing sound of the ocean spark the imagination. Inside, you can feel the force of nature and the sense that this place has been forming for millions of years.

The Village Atmosphere

After returning from the trail, I stopped at one of the small seaside restaurants. September is the perfect month to experience the local vibe — fewer tourists, and locals have more time for relaxed conversations. Fresh fish, papas arrugadas, and mojo verde tasted better here than anywhere else.

Worth Visiting?

Absolutely. Ajuy is a place that combines the rawness of nature, the tranquility of a small village, and breathtaking views. Perfect for a few-hour excursion, but also for moments of reflection and disconnecting from daily life.
