During our walk through the town of Capilla del Monte in the province of Córdoba, Argentina, of course we dedicated to seeing as many natural landscapes as we could find: mountains, streams, and lakes are our favorites to spending our days, surrounded by nature and tranquility. This town is one of the most touristic in the region and is located at the foot of the mountains, where year after year visitors from all over walk through its streets. The town is modest, it does not have luxury buildings or high hotels, but it preserves some interesting buildings that are worth visiting, such as the local parish of San Antonio de Padua 😃.

While my dad and I were on vacation we wanted to make the most of our time. We knew we weren't going to rest at all because when we're out for a walk we like to go to as many places as we can and that's how we got to this parish, even though we had already walked more than 10 km that day. It was only a few blocks from our hotel so we made the last effort of the day and went there 😅.

According to its history, this parish began as a small chapel in the 1600s, when the first settlers arrived in the town of Capilla del Monte. Over the years its surroundings were also used as a cemetery for the inhabitants themselves, until in 1900 the building was remodeled and converted into a parish. This building has had almost no changes to its façade, so it was amazing to think that this place looks like this over 100 years ago. We learned these details thanks to the brochures that were given to us at the town's tourist office, but if you want to read a little more and see some other photos, you can do so here ❤️.

This parish has a small green space around it where you can sit down to rest a bit or say a prayer. What caught my attention about this is that traditionally the village church faces the main square, but in this case it is not. This church is in a small square on the way to Cerro Uritorco, the highest of all the small mountains and which makes this place famous, while the main square is about 6 blocks away. Perhaps those who designed this town wanted to get out of the norm 😅.

Neither my dad nor I are religious, but we would still have wanted to go inside and see this building, if it hadn't been for the fact that it was closed for repairs. If there is one thing that the Church cannot be criticized for, it is the quality of its construction: all the churches, chapels and cathedrals that I have seen so far are beautiful, the best being those that have preserved their Gothic style. Arriving at this parish was a good way to end our day of walking: it's always good to take away the satisfaction of having been able to visit a new place and it was like that for us ❤️.

Saludos.

Too bad it was not open, even I was left with the desire to see it inside.
Even so I really liked the pictures you show, you can see that as you say it has been standing for more than a hundred years. And we can imagine how beautiful it must have been in its beginnings.
Greetings.

I am not really a religious person but when I see a church, it is very calming. The buildings aged beautifully. So nice that people preserved these so that the next generation can see the history.

Thanks for the virtual tour, Lau! 💖

Completely. In a town where nature is the main attraction, it is good that constructions like these remain standing.

Greetings, thank you for your visit to my post ❤️.

What caught my attention about this is that traditionally the village church faces the main square, but in this case it is not.

Excellent observation @lauramica! Typically in Spanish Colonial locations around the world, Catholic heritage churches usually face the main town/municipal square and the sea/harbor. But only in rare cases have I witnessed some of them deviating away from what's common practice. Reasons could be due to space restrictions, construction budget constraints, or as you said, to get away from the norm. Thank you for this interesting contribution! 😊

That was very rare to see! Mainly because it seems that the parish is hidden, quite far from the center. I guess those details also make it unique.

Thanks for your support of my post, I appreciate it ❤️
